Hello there. As I've looked over various bits of information and images concerning Edwards' upcoming rendition of Godzilla, I've begun to nottice a certain "mood" prevalent throughout them: this film is likely to have little in the way of light-hearted qualities. With that as the case, I've begun to believe that Godzilla himself will in no way be an individual for which to cheer. It seems to me that we'll likely fear him just as much as the MUTO organisms! It may come down to the point that the only reason we're rooting for Godzilla is because he's the monster we like better on the whole - not because we're endeared to him in any way, shape or form. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE the concept of Godzilla being something of which we should be deeply afraid. I'm simply wondering just how much we're going to wind up terrified of the big boy once we see the film. As always, your thoughts and conjecture concerning this topic are greatly appreciated, even if you keep them to yourself. :)

WARNING: LONG NERDY OBSERVATION

Godzilla is a force of nature in this movie, so we should definitely be afraid of him but not antagonize him. Take real life disasters like hurricane Katrina and tornadoes for example, when they happen and people die it's not like we wanna hunt down these forces of nature and kill them (mostly cuz it's impossible) because it's a part of everyday life and is proof mother nature is still in charge.

Godzilla in this movie is essentially that, a confused animal with a specific goal that human beings keep trying to stop him from doing simply because we don't understand him and don't wanna take the risk he could want to wipe us out. Godzilla's personality in this film is the wrath of God, he's here to be himself and we're just in the way.

So in a way, yes we should be terrified of Godzilla, but not like a horror movie villian or a serial killer; like a tsunami that's on it's way to our town or a massive lightening storm. But whether or not we "root" for him or not is because we're Godzilla fans and that's about it. Welp, that's my point of view anyway; so terribly sorry about the length. XD

I actually hope he scares me in this movie so I can forget about all of the silliness of Godzilla in the past. But don't get me wrong, I like the silly stuff it's entertaining, but IMO it'll be easier to watch a serious reboot if we don't think of that silly stuff when watching him... you know, destroy stuff, and Edwards even said he's an anti-hero, I mean c'mon did you really want to give the T-Rex a high five when she killed those Raptors? Not if you wanted to keep that hand, or your whole body really. my point is I think it'll be like the T-Rex where we were terrified but also glad she saved the humans (sorta). If you saw the wondercon footage you might understand, because when he killed all of those people with that tidal wave noone cheered but when another monster was killing people and then Godzilla came and everyone applauded, so yeah I guess we'll like him in certain parts, but not when people are drowning.

INSTINCTIVEGIGAN - There was nothing overly long or nerdy about your post! I actually enjoyed it quite a bit - you made some very interesting and valid points! Thank you! :) TFKPILLAR76 - I know exaclty what you mean with the T-Rex analogy! I did see the Wondercon footage and, though I was pleased that Godzilla was preparing to turn that MUTO's head into a conoe, I nevertheless looked upon him like a very credible threat to Mankind. You've provided a fun and insightful repsonse! Thank you! :)

Just watch the movie like you watched the original Gojira film. The same way you felt when you saw the original should be the same with this one. Just my opinion. Gareth's Godzilla is quite literally a remade classic monster movie taken to a new level of terror and destruction. You're supposed to fear Godzilla, and you're supposed to get attatched to the various characters that will likely die in this movie. Its going to be tragic, and you can blame Godzilla and the Muto for all the horrible things you will experience throught the movie :]

INSTINCTIVEGIGAN - I've a simple question for you (one which you needn't answer if you've no desire to): did you like the Cloverfield film? :)

@SOMETHING_REAL I liked it but for the most part, I feel it's too boring. The characters we follow barely see the monster at all and the destruction/chaos doesn't really effect them enough (except for that one guy who died on the bridge) to excite me; they're more like "oh that looks cool" moments. Saving Clover's full appearance for the end was a lil' anti-climactic and the ending seemed pointlessly tragic. Overall, I wished they more cleverly used suspense and more action.

I like it for the most part though, I just wished it was more exciting with it's storytelling. Also found footage doesn't really work for it, at all.

INSTINCTIVEGIGAN - That's a very well-presented and educated response! Thank you so very much; your answer is in line with what I assumed you might think of the film. :)

Godzilla in this movie from what Ive seen will closely be like G2000 in which he's viewed as an ultimate threat who combats the other creatures out of pure territoriality and afterwards people realize that had Godzilla not stepped in the world would be doomed.

Yeah, I'm gonna feel the same way for this Godzilla as I have before. He's a force of nature, coming back to set balance where it has been lost through sheer destructive force. We will respect him out of both genuine respect for him restoring the balance, but also out of fear for not wishing to incur his wrath upon us as well. He is a force that will set things right, not caring how many will die in the process. All that matters is restoring the balance, whatever it takes.

Godzilla has always terrified me. Which is why I've always rooted for human-controlled Mechas when they fight him.

You can't defeat nature, I know, but human instinct is to conquer fear, and we fear nature. It's a shame how arrogant we are.

And I'll be the first to admit I probably won't overcome that arrogance.

Deviation is not shameful. Conforming is.
