They haven't released the rating yet, and after seeing the trailer, theres is a lot of viable reasons. Some of which will probably involve gore. Not to mention its budget is lower than, "Pacific Rims". May I add onto that that the Matrix and other R rated movies also had lower budgets and were quite succesful. Now I have only listed off a few, but if you go here, Rob from E.T.N. (Entertainment Talk Nation), he lists off many more reasons. But, I also must ask what are your thoughts? Go ahead and share them below.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-14-2014 3:16 PMPeople would go nuts if this movie turns out to be Rated-R. Many G-fans seem to be against that idea. I would love to see R-Rated Godzilla film and this one seems like it could be that but let's face it: Godzilla movies have never been Rate-R and if Legendary/WB wants to introduce Godzilla to the new generation the movie has to be PG-13. Rob has listed very good reasons why this film could be Rated-R. I'm not sad if the movie is PG-13 and maybe we can get Uncut/Unrated/Director's Cut on DVD and Blu-ray :D

MemberBaragonFeb-14-2014 3:21 PMi'm not really against it being rated r but why should it be? you have to remember that todays generation of kids want to see monster movies of any kind the producers of this film know that and want to make it suitable for them as well

These things have no real place in a Godzilla movie, and I hope they don't wast my time with them. Look at The Dark Knight trilogy and World War Z were PG-13. I never felt like they had to "hold back" any content to keep the PG-13 rating.
I also hope they don't go really gory. Godzilla isn't a slasher, he is a giant monster. There is no need for gore.
