Will people take Godzilla seriously after this film?

Hopefully this new film will have people especially us americans to start taking the character a little seriously.
Well, the problem is most people outside of the real Godzilla fans have grown up with the more camp tone of later films following the masterpiece of the original. Also, when people think suitmation, a lot of times they're turned off because "it's obviously fake" or "this makes things totallly unbelievable". Hopefully, we can stick it to general movie-goers that Godzilla is not a name to be mocked, but to be praised yet again in the same vein as the original.
I'm Japanese but i can't find the differences between superhero movies and Godzilla movies. I know superhero movies have higher budgets but I think the reason why american people laugh at Godzilla is because Godzilla is made in Japan aka the weirdest country on earth. But yeah I hope they will take it more seriously.
there in lies the rub. That's why this movie may not be a big hit. People know Godzilla as a tail surfing karate lizard (older people). Or, they only know him from the 98' movie (younger people). When I told my family that they were remaking Godzilla, the first thing they asked was, "is he going to surf on his tail and kick buildings down?" that's what they remember about the old ones. the super-cheesyness of it all.
See, that's what I don't undstand. People will go see Transformers and go, "Oh man! That was the best movie ever! So believable!" -_- Seriously??? You'll believe a story about giant talking robots from another planet, but mock a giant reptile created by a nuclear weaponat is hell-bent on destroying his creators??? For the record I love Transformers, just talking aout general movie-goers.
I dont know man, I had the same thing happen when I watched The Hobbit. The trailer was over and i heard a few people laughing! I was like, WTF. This movie looks better than those BS super hero movies that are stale and boring. This Movie looks like it was a ton of potential, but I agree, I think people look back at the 98 film and the suit and not take it serious.
As true G fans, we just gotta convince people otherwise.
I really don't care if it does or not. I doubt this movie will make some people watch the original films differently, but who cares? I love Godzilla and I have a much broader, critical and historical understanding of the series than anyone who laughs at him. What matters is I (the royal I) like Godzilla and I take it seriously. Who cares if others don't.
I don't think this movie will do anything for Godzilla in terms of anyone taking him seriously. Maybe a few people, but most people that have seen the trailer realise that this isn't going to be like the showa series (or old campy Godzilla) but even with the trailers out, we can still figure that people might be concerned that this movie will still end up with something like the 98 movie.
I'm actually more afraid of "fake" Godzilla fans who show up after the film (assuming it's awesome) and pretend they liked him all along. Not sure why this bothers me, but as someone who grew up with it and has supported the genre my whole life, the idea bugs me. Gues I just hate bandwagoners.
@Herro Prease
Same here. Like the Transformers "fans", who don't know that Bumblebee actually talks.
I also agree with God_Of_Destruction that superhero movies are so predictable and stale. They were cool and interesting at first, but they are just so boring now. The Avengers was the biggest letdown for me.
I hope this movie will change people's perception on Gojira.
"Daddy's home- cake every night,"
I hear you guys on the "fake" fans, they can be annoying, but you have to remember that those "fake" fans put money in the pockets of the movie and allow sequels to happen. I'm a Star Wars fan so I totally know what you mean about the fakers, but you gotta also kinda be happy when they come up because that means the movie did well :)
Yeah, "fake fans" don't bug me so much. They're the ones we need to depend on to make this movie a success.
yeah i agree, they will only slightly annoy me if they have never heard that there are more than 2 godzilla movies.
It's impossible to take Godzilla seriously. He's a creature of fantasy that could never actually exist, and he has powers and abilities due to his radioactive background that never would actually exist either.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, radiation doesn't just do what you want it to.
Godzilla's size, abilities, and very existence defy the laws of physics and thus make him an impossible creature who can only sustain himself in the world of fantasy. We all love him, no arguments, but he'd never be able to exist in this world and it is therefore impossible to take him seriously. You cannot take seriously what cannot exist, unless you force yourself to believe a lie that he can.

Look who's talking...
Maybe it would bring the character into the spotlight, but I don't think it would make people reconsider what he did in the past.
Quite frankly-- why would you even care if people took godzilla seriously?
Part of being a Godzilla fan is liking something that isn't mainstream, that people generally scuff at. Becoming comfortable with who you are and accepting the fact you like something silly isn't a bad thing-- most of these people who would criticise you for liking godzilla like all sorts of goofy, stupid things too.
Also, picking on the silly things other people like (like super hero films) doesn't magically make godzilla better by association. I don't understand why so many Godzilla fans are so dang pursecution complex driven to just be total jerks about other fandoms. I get it, people make fun of you for liking dudes in rubber suits fighting, don't stoop to their level and return the favor of insulting the dumb crap they like. Because everything is dumb to someone.
I personally don't wanna live in a world full of 'fake' godzilla fans like bayformer fangirls or people who think wolverine doesn't wear a mask.
