MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 4:17 PMSo I was thinking about this for a while, how do you guys think they will portray damage in this film.
In the 98 film, Zilla avoided damage up until the very end. (died with 6 missiles)
This Godzilla looks a bit sluggish and im sure will take damage from missiles, artillery, everything.
In the Classic films, NOTHING seemed to hurt or even phase him.
Do you think they will balance this some way with fast regeneration, or just stick it out with holes in him?
Personally, I hope he will have fast regeneration. Maybe not a quick heal, but something to make him nearly indestructable.
What do you guys think?

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 4:39 PMYou bring up a good point. I honestly think that Godzilla will only be damaged by one of the Mutos. The reason for my thinking is because Gareth and Elizabeht Olsen have talked about it in interviews. They stated that he is basically a force of nature. If that is the case, I cannot see any artillery hurting him. It is the equivalent of firing artillery at a hurricane or a tornado. They are not going to do anything. If one of the Mutos is near the size or as big as Godzilla though, it could damage him. It would be one force of nature against another.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 4:53 PMI can see him getting scared and bitten by a muto. I'm not sure if tanks will do anything. Godzilla seems to have alligator like armored skin which is nearly impoissible to penetrate with a rifle so pretend the tank is a rifle...since Godzilla is much bigger it shouldnt do anything but bounce off

That is an interesting take on it. I sure hope he will be portrayed as a force of destructive nature.
I would love for Godzilla to look down at tanks, or up ant jets and just be unphased.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 5:16 PMMaybe something incredibly powerfull like the hammerdown-protocol they used in Cloverfield, could probably stagger him, STAGGER him. Make him sway a bit atleast. But all the big damage is most likely MUTO caused.

I think that would be really cool! That would show just how powerful Godzilla is and how humans have no hope of winning.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 5:45 PMreally as most of you have pointed out, he has to be near indestructible to all forms of human weaponry including WMDs, i'd suppose the MUTOs could damage him enhancing that only monster/nature can be effective against monsters/nature, i'm hoping he still has his regenerative powers.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 8:16 PM@GODZILLAFAN1995 - Nothing, not even Godzilla, would be immune to a WMD. Any nuke, no matter the size, would be enough to vaporize Godzilla upon contact with the shockwave alone. If you want proof, then take this piece of info as some food for thought: scientists who studied the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki estimated that they were using mere fractions of a percent of their total destructive output. Flaws in the design? Maybe. But either way, if Godzilla got hit by something like that, born of radiation or no, he'd be vaporized.
The whole monster=force of nature is only a metaphor people. It's not literal.
Godzilla is being seen as a force of nature, a powerful existence that cannot be controlled in any way. You can either get out of the way, or say goodbye. However, that doesn't mean that he'll be indestructible by any means.
As a living creature, even Godzilla's flesh has its limits. Artillery fired into the same place multiple times could break through due to the fact that everything in this world has a stress point. Once that point is crossed, anything can be bent or broken. Godzilla will be no different. He might have a similar sense of unstopability to his original Toho incarnation, but he'll hardly be invincible, let alone against a WMD.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 8:42 PM@Kyero, You do make some valid points, but I will disagree with you about Godzilla's breaking point. You need to remember that Gareth wants to bring the King of the monsters back to how he was potrayed in 1954. He was made from radiation. All a WMD would do is make him even more powerful. Also, if he got killed by a WMD, that would technically make him the weakest of the Godzillas (not counting Zilla of course). It would be very disappointing, and it would be a cop out if you ask me. He is suppose to be 350' feet tall, and he is also suppose to be the most powerful.
That being said, I can see your reasoning. Gareth has said that he wants to make it realistic. However, people tend to get that confused. Reliasitic does not neccessarily mean that Godzilla himself will be portrayed like a real animal, with physical weaknesses. He means that Godzilla will instead be just a powerhouse. He just won't do anything campy like the Showa series Godzilla.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2014 8:57 PMI cannot answer this question at all O.O wonderful topic btw.
And I wont even compare this Godzilla with TOHO's Godzillas, because we know TOHO's Godzillas been STABBED by other monsters which clearly makes no sense. Just because theyre big monsters like Godzilla doesnt mean they can stab Godzilla; Megaguirus, Biollante, etc.
And the only answer I have for this solution is an answer that we'll probably never see in this movie, but I just believe Kiryu's spinning hand drill is the only thing that would really penetrate Godzilla.
Or actually, if they make a weapon like Kiryu's hand drill in this movie or in a sequel, then yes thats a solution
