MemberMothra LarvaeDec-31-2013 3:03 PMAs of now, my expectations for the VFX of Godzilla have been fairly high, especially from the posters and Super HD trailer. However, It felt weird seeing the same shots being fixed and messed around with after seeing the 2012 Comic-Con proof of concept trailer. Thus, after seeing the official trailer on the day of release, my expectations were lowered; now the super HD trailer raised my expectations.
Next, onto the Godzilla Encounter footage: I loved it. It looked half CG and half suit acting, and it gave a VERY realistic feel for me. The footage looked like it actually happened, and Godzilla looked fierce (I really liked the design though, however I know it isn't the final design)!
Finally, focusing on the poster (specifically the one of his tail): Just like the Encounter footage, it looked real. Everything felt like it belonged to the same world. Plus, the lighting was perfect, giving us the perfect view of the amount of detail put on his dorsal spikes and tail itself.
So what do you guys think? COMMENT BELOW!

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-31-2013 7:09 PMI loved the effects. They did exactly what i hoped for; Show how big Godzilla is. Thats Godzilla`s marketing ability is his size. Unfortunally, we havent seen enough. The encounter video was just a quick thing done, and therefore he didnt show off that much personallity. He did however look great. The two shots in the trailer didnt help much;
The first shot was clouded, and the second shot was also created for a concept trailer, and later edited to fit with the movie cinematography.
The sets look great. The MUTO creature blends perfectly with the train-set, which wasnt CGI. Its great.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-31-2013 10:37 PMThere is no suitmation going on in this movie. Godzilla is fully CG. No human element in him at all unless they used motion capture and I don't believe they did. From what I understand they designed his movements from scratch.
Anyway, I have high hopes for the films special effects because they're being done by Jim Rygiel who was the guy who did effects for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. With a name and reputation like that behind the visual effects department, it'd better be good.
