MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 12:45 AMThe number 1 topic these days seems to be what Godzilla's size really is. Well I think he's as big as his posters. Now I know that's stupid to assume since Zilla's 1998 film completely overexaggerated his height in the posters.
Example:
But take a look at all these posters of Godzilla. They seem to follow a very similiar pattern of sizes.
These posters seem to keep a very similiar Godzilla size between reveal, now why would they keep track of his size between posters? Probably cuz it's his official size. Now what about the city in the background? Assuming this new poster IS Godzilla's size why does he look like he's a million feet high? Probably cuz it's just that, in the background. I mean notice the size difference between the city and the bridge. Plus the HALO jumpers also get closer and closer with perspective. I mean if calling Godzilla a million feet tall in this poster is like calling the HALO jumper at the front as big as his spikes (which is ridiculous, he's just closer). In addition, take a look at this shot from the trailer:
The flare completely shadows the HALO jumper, meaning the soldier is smaller than the actual brightness caused by his flare in this shot. And if you watch the trailer, the jumper continues to fall, so he's not even close enough to Godzilla to land on him. If that's the case, the size of Godzilla in the movie could very well be the same as the posters. If not, at least it was fun to speculate but until someone officially announces it, that's all we can do. So what do you guys think?

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 2:38 AMI been trying to get this point accross myself. In the trailer as well, when the halo jumper is just reaching the top of the 555 building. Gozilla's head is straight away about 2 blocks or further away. My eyes sure don't decieve me. And yes, you bring up a good point with the posters. The jumper is a speck of dirt next to Godzillas spine. So what does that tell us?? Between 750 and 800 feet. If i'm wrong then i'm wrong. But until i hear it from LP/WB or Gareth Edwards , that's what i'll go with.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 3:03 AMIf they released the footage of Godzilla's attack on Muto at the airport that they showed at Comic Con we would be far more clear on his height. Hopefully we get pics of the action figures so we can at least compare Godzilla to the other monsters.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 9:59 AM@INSTINCTIVEGIGAN: I'm with you, I want to see that airport scene. From the descriptions, it sounds like the foot is about the size of a plane (the debate is what kind of plane). Now if I can see the scene, then I should be able to get a size estimation (as we don't have an official full body shot standing upright, only fan-made ones).
Of course, I'm also waiting for one of the main characters to be at a window with Godzilla's eye right outside that window. That would also help in size estimation (form eye to head size, and from there to the rest of the body).

Remember the interview with Sally Hawkins saying she gets a glimpse of his eye before she dies?

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-20-2013 11:51 AM@SHAZOtHEHEDGEHOG: I do remember that actually! I actually looked her up to ee her height (5', 5") to have memorized in case I do see that scene.

MemberBaragonDec-21-2013 4:37 AMThere's no way he's that big. There are levels to how far you can take his height without getting ridiculous and 700 ft+ if doing just that.
The golden Gate bridge, even in the background would look much larger than that. You keep forgetting when you talk about perspective these people are coming from above so the distortion isn't as far off as if they were right in front of, and that bridge, assuming those spines are the one's at his shoulder level isn't even half his height.
The tail is surrounded but smoke so you can't really gauge it's height, but it looks extremely large also.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-23-2013 3:02 PMKeep in mind the kaiju at the beginning of Pacific Rim was as big as the bridge, like almost exactly. Godzilla is probably going to be at least twice his size so if that's the case the estimation still seems sound. But we'll really never know until they officially announce it.

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-23-2013 6:10 PMJust gonna copy this from the senselss discussion I made a bit ago:
"So, I'm playing that new Godzilla game released by Toho online and I noticed that the King's height takes up about 2/3 the height of the Eiffel Tower. The tower is just over a thousand feet tall. It could just be a design choice for this game, but what if Godzilla is indeed around 750-800 feet tall in the reboot? I don't know if anyone's pointed this out yet as I don't have too much time to explore every discussion, but I thought I'd just bring it up. You're guys' thoughts?"

MemberMothra LarvaeDec-29-2013 11:19 PMGodzilla's height, according to Gareth Edwards, is only going to be just tall enough to make him the biggest Godzilla in films. He compared the way he increased his size to the way skyscrapers outdo each other by small margins through the years such as the Chrysler building and the Empire State building. His Godzilla is likely only going to be in the realm of 101-140 meters in height.
He will NEVER, I repeat, NEVER, be as tall as the building in the trailer. It's a trick of the camera angle, and he's much farther from the 555 building in the trailer than he appears.
Anyone who thinks he's as tall as the 555 building needs to have their eyes tested and go through a photography class and perhaps some geography classes.
