The official website for Shin-Gojira, or Shin-Godzilla, has gone online. Although it largely regurgitates the same information reported earlier, this will be the place to watch for future updates, images, trailer releases and downloadable perks.
Above is the title's official logo utilizing the 1954 film's font. Written in the katakana Japanese writing form, the title is hyphenated. (Most media outlets are not using the hyphen, but until we're corrected otherwise we'll follow suit with the katakana/website URL.) It's also interesting to note that the website's URL is shin-godzilla.jp NOT shin-gojira.jp. Toho is seemingly using Shin-Godzilla as the english title (for now).
Japanese film historian August Ragone further clarifies the meaning and reason behind the word "shin",
"...'Shin' is a triple-entrandre reading of the kanji characters for [new], [true], [god], according to the film's Supervising Director Hideaki Anno."
It seems the filmmakers intend for "shin" to represent all-of-the-above ("new","true","god") by simply allowing the Japanese word to stand in for them. Hard to argue with it since the title "Shin-Godzilla" just sounds (and looks) remarkably cool.
Shin-Godzilla arrives in Japanese theaters Summer 2016. Stay tuned for more updates.
