MechaGodzilla Looms in New Anime Sequel Poster

Thailand fan group, Ultraman Channel, was able to snag what appears to be the next official poster for the Godzilla anime sequel. Loosely translated Godzilla: Decisive Battle, Mobile Breeder City, the sequel to Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters premieres in Japanese theaters Friday, May 18th. A teaser poster was released back in November.

The poster is below. We will update when a high resolution version is released:

The synopsis was released earlier this month:

After suffering a crushing defeat at the claws of Godzilla Earth - the seemingly immortal, 300 meter tall, 100,000 ton incarnation of Godzilla who now rules the planet - Haruo Sakaki is rescued by Miana, a native girl who belongs to the "Futua" tribe, the descendants of humanity that were left behind on Earth during the initial evacuation. Meanwhile, Galu Gu, the leader of the Bilusaludo forces, realizes that the arrowheads of the Futua are made of "nanometal", the same material that was used to build MechaGodzilla, a super weapon that failed to curb Godzilla's rampage and that was presumed destroyed in a battle at the foot of Mt. Fuji in the 21st Century.

Godzilla: Decisive Battle, Mobile Breeder City will be released in Japanese theaters May 18th, 2018. The film is directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare) & Hiroyuki Seshita (Knights of Sidonia) from a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi (Kamen Rider Gaim).

The first film in the Godzilla anime trilogy, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is currently streaming on Netflix.

I like it! It looks like Mechagodzilla is being poised as the ultimate weapon!

That is awesome. However, it does raise a few questions. Does MechaGodzilla get rebuilt to be bigger than Godzilla Earth or does Godzilla Earth somehow get shrunk down in size? Or maybe I'm just overthinking it? Whatever. That's still an awesome poster.

I'm thinking that Mechagodzilla is merely the face of the ultimate countermeasure against Godzilla Earth.

See, Godzilla's no longer gonna be fighting just the ragtag crew of the Aratrum, nor is he just fighting the Bilusaludo superweapon known as Mechagodzilla. He's gonna be fighting an entire city built to defeat him!

....Is what I'm guessing might be what's gonna happen. I could be wrong :P

Building a mecha G the size of the Godzilla earth.. well.. that would take a tremendous amount of resources and manpower. I don't think a 300 foot mecha G would stand a chance against a 900 foot G. This should be interesting to watch.

stoked for this! im sure the "Mobile Breeder City" will be an entire battle ground built on taking Godzilla. But the size of Godzilla Earth might be too much for an ancient city and mecha unit

The official site has been updated too, with an English synopsis, and we now have the official English title for the movie: Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle. The two Shobijin-like twins on the poster are also named Miana and Maina, according to the website. All of the main cast from the previous film except Daisuke Ono are confirmed to be reprising their roles as well.

As for how Mechagodzilla can match Godzilla Earth's size, I'm pretty sure it has to do with the "autonomous thinking" nanometal he's supposedly built from.

This confirms it.

Mothra DOES exist in this continuity.... or at least she did before she died. Also, I had a feeling there was something special about the nanometal that Mechagodzilla was composed of.

This new information seems to imply that it can be used to quickly build up Mechagodzilla and other weaponry necessary to take on Godzilla Earth.

Well the synopsis mentions that the Houtua "god" left behind eggs, so I have a feeling we'll at least be seeing a larval Mothra in this film. Hiroyuki Seshita all but confirmed it in a recent publicity event when he said "If I mention there's a small girl talking about an egg, I don't need to tell rumor-sensitive people what that means, right?" Plus the Houtua's emblem has a very strong resemblance to a moth.

I like it,but the poster reminds me of the poster for Godzilla vs. Biollante. It's still a cool poster, though.
