News regarding Legendary's Kaiju universe has been somewhat slow, with most of the news focused on updates regarding 'Kong: Skull Island'. However, today Variety revealed that the Godzilla sequel finally has found its scriptwriters.
Variety reported that Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields will be writing the script. The publication also reported that Legendary and Warner were preparing to gather a writers room in order to help flesh out the Kaiju universe.
Dougherty and Shields both co-wrote 'Krampus' for Legendary pictures last year. That film received mostly positive reviews, and did fairly well at the box office. It should be noted that the film 'Krampus' relied on a mixture of tension and comedic elements.
Godzilla 2 will be released on March 22, 2019, with Godzilla Vs Kong slated for May 29, 2020. The current plot of the film is unknown. Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers are jointly producing the film.
