Evangelion Composer Shiro Sagisu To Score Godzilla Resurgence

More and more on Godzilla Resurgence keeps rolling in. Information was added on Toho's official website that revealed one of Japan's most praised composers, Shiro Sagisu, will score the themes for the King of the Monsters.

The collaboration with Director Hideaki Anno doesn't come as a shock. Sagisu scored Anno's Neon Genesis Evangelion and Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water. Recently he's worked on Anno's Rebuild of Evangelion films. He also composed the music for Co-Director/SFX Director Shinji Higuchi's Attack on Titan Part I and II.

Notable works outside of Anno and Higuchi include the scores for Ranama ½ (1989-1992), Macross II (1992), Casshern (2004), Bleach (2004-2012) and more.

To get a taste for Sagisu's style, below are popular tracks from this year's Attack on Titan and Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0:

What do you think of Godzilla's latest composer? A good decision? Are you excited about what Sagisu may bring to the table? Let us know!

I'm not familiar with his work, so I can't really comment on his being chosen to compose the themes for Shin Gojira.

But, he has worked with the directors, which is key. However, I do feel that any Godzilla film, especially one with nighmarish and horror overtones, needs to have themes that are deep and ominous: low brass (bass trombone), low woodwinds (contrabass clarinet-and not just for deep sea scenes). I'm sure Mr. Sagisu is up to it.

This film continues to fascinate.

I'm only familiar with the Live Action Attack on Titan score. The score was very dramatic. Very opera-like with the sense of being overpowered. This is a good sign. I think this guy did well with Attack on Titan (despite the movie itself needing some improvement (I never saw the second live action movie, still looking for it.).). I get the feeling that Shin-Gojira's soundtrack is going to be very ominous and give us the impression of Gojira's (overwhelming) power.

!!!!! I mean this is not entirely unexpected, since he often works with Anno, but seriously... this is a complete dream team for this movie. If you had asked me to pick any japanese director and any japanese composer to team up for a Godzilla movie, I would've picked them, no doubt. I was always a big fan of Evangelion for it's sense of scale and it's style. The new poster only gives me more faith in them.

If you're curious about what their combined style is like, you should check out this crazy scene from Evangelion 2.22

Considering that he's worked on Evagelion and I've heard it's score, I think this will work now. Now, again, I can't judge without the final thing and a full body of the G-man. But, I am still hyped, but still debating and criticizing.
