KoldWarKid62,
Seeing as blockbusters earlier in the year tend to do better than films later in the summer, (particularly in August, although July hasn't been that lucrative this year) I'm not too worried about Kong.
Legendary's deal with Wanda pretty much guarantees it will play in China which is growing in box office dominance yearly. At this point, particularly for Legendary, China is the box office to look at as far as the movie making money.
China tends to love their giant robot and monster movies, and because those sell best in the territory, it's no surprise that pretty much all of Legendary's upcoming flicks dance in that genre: Kong: Skull Island, The Great Wall, Pacific Rim 2, Godzilla 2 and Kong vs. Godzilla.
And I would bet anything Warcraft gets a sequel. Sure it flopped in the US with only $47 million, but overall worldwide? The movie has made $433 million on a $160 million budget. China made up over $220 million of that. Legendary and Wanda would be crazy not to make a sequel and target it at China.
So basically if US and Canadian audiences don't show up to these movies, we know there's a proven territory where numbers will flock to them. The rest of Legendary's monster movies will make more money in China. I can all but guarantee it.
