MemberMothra LarvaeMay-08-2015 10:37 AMEnjoy it, guys, this may be the only bit of G2 casting news we'll hear for quite a while.
And I wouldn't mind him coming back if and only if they can incorporate story archs to make him more interesting. When your character is written to be unemotional at all times and are constantly walking solo with no one to interact with, you naturally can't work miracles around that, you could put a top-flight actor in the same role and get a similar result. Of course, many G-fans don't want him coming back, period and will immediately lose interest in the sequel if they see him featured in G2 adverts in any capacity, so my guess is he won't be back.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-08-2015 11:36 AMI thought, be far, this movie had the weakest performances of any movie in recent memory. Cranston just isn't that good. Never understood the attraction to him as an actor.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-08-2015 12:16 PMDidn't really have any problems with his acting but his story is over, I can't see him having another reason to put himself in harm's way again. Serizawa could definitely return.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-08-2015 8:14 PMI have no problem with Aaron Taylor-Johnson returning, as it wasn't his fault that the character of Ford Brody was dry and generic, it was because of the writing. Johnson has shown he is a competent actor in the Kick-Ass films and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and if he actually has a decently-written character he can do fine.
However, I don't think there is any need for the character of Ford Brody to return in a major role. His story is over, and the character was almost universally disappointing to fans who even loved the movie. I think that either a new main character should be introduced, or a more interesting and previously unexplored character like Ishiro Serizawa should take his place. I'm fine with Brody returning in a minor role, but it would just be a poor writing decision to keep Ford Brody as the main human protagonist.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-09-2015 12:44 PMFord Brody was fine. He played a stoic military guy just fine.
My problem with the news is that they're going with three extra monsters way to early.
How about some restraint? There was a reason that Spider-Man 3 was so stupid. No sense in blowing your wad in just the second movie!

MemberBaragonMay-09-2015 4:25 PMIt was a very poorly conceived character that was poorly portrayed. Not really sure who to blame, althought most of the characters were poorly conceived/written. Like most have stated, Ford's story was told, so time to move on.
I'm also with Moncentric.com in that I don't agree with having another three monsters in this movie, especially when they're planning/hoping to do a third. It really is overkill if they go that route. Here's hoping for the best, and a MAJOR improvement over the first. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to ToHo's next in 2016.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-10-2015 3:36 AMI would be open to it so long as his story arc remained interesting, but I think it will follow the path of pacific rim 2 in that the main characters from there have not been confirmed to return and will probably focus on new characters, I think it might be interesting if the new film was led by a paramedic, showing more of the morals and public perception of the chaos.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-10-2015 6:54 PMDo I want him returning in his previous role? No. Am I open to him returning to the series. Yes. Let me explain.
I'm open to our own series becoming like that of the Showa Era. Even though those films are supposed to be connected, however thinly, the actors appearing in them never played the same characters film to film from what I remember. A self-sacrificing doctor in the original film, now Dr. Serizawa is a terrorist of the Yellow Bamboo (hope I got that right) in Ebirah of the Deep. I know things are different now, and we connect multiple films from one to the other through actors/actresses. A good example would be the marvel universe (minus all of the Hulks we've had). But say Aaron Taylor Johnson does play a roll in this film, but appears almost unrecognizable in-line with Hank Azaria's roll in Godzilla '98. A smart-ass cameraman who has a lucky close-encounter. Or Elizabeth Olson appears again, but not as the worried wife, but in the new role of knowledgeable scientist with a close tie to... Rodan. Won't happen, but just an interesting thought.
I've always liked the idea of actors returning to film series, but in different rolls. Godzilla is good one. Previous heroes playing villians, villains as heroes, others as anti heroes.
I'll leave the post with this - entirely un-Godzilla related, but still "my" post related - Sean Connery should play a Bond Villain before he dies.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2015 8:41 AM@Monocentric: I've said this numerous times before, and I'll say it again: if it's just Rodan and/or Mothra in G2, then who will the villain be in the second film? Making Godzilla a villain would ignore everything that was established in the first movie and if Mothra's a villain, it'll go against every single iteration of her character and make her Mothra In Name Only.
Not to mention Legendary already received enough criticism for the misleading advertising for the 2014 film. Not using all three monsters after unveiling them in a teaser after announcing G2 is being made I can only imagine would result in an even bigger ****storm. And it can very easily be done, just establish Godzilla and Rodan in the opening scene in some capacity (either via fight scene or Rodan helping Godzilla in some way), leaves plenty of screentime to developing Mothra and Ghidorah. They could also bump the screentime to 2 hrs + 20 minutes or 2 1/2 hours if need be (which I'd be perfectly okay with with a good script).

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2015 8:05 PMI still think it's bull crap that we have to wait so long. Star Wars is coming out in December

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-28-2015 1:32 PMhow about more godzilla?
to be honest there is literily nothing ford could do, his father is dead, and his mother is dead.
yeah, id think hed just be extra at this point. also how about some one who has a litttle more character than ford not saying Johnson is a bad actor, they just wrote him bland.
