Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers will be releasing the sequel to last year's successful Godzilla (2014) film on June 8th, 2018. Following his work on the Star Wars spin-off title, Rogue One, Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will return to helm Godzilla 2 as well. With the newest Avengers film hitting theaters this month, which also starred Godzilla lead, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the mutant superhero Quicksilver, many news outlets took the opportunity to pick the actor's brain about whether or not he knew if he would be returning for the Godzilla 2014 sequel in 2018.
Starting the interviews off was Cinemablend who flat-out asked Aaron if he would return for Godzilla 2, to which he replied: "Our director, Gareth Edwards, is off shooting a Star Wars movie now, so I think, you know, and he was a huge influence on the franchise. … So I think they’re waiting on Gareth, and then when Gareth gets around, they will all jump in a room, brainstorm, and do their thing. And I don’t know if I’d be a part of it, if it would be set somewhere else, if it’s going to be in the future. ... It’s just kind of, it’s just so broad."

Of the praise Godzilla (2014) received, its only real negative points were sourced from Aaron Taylor-Johnson's portrayal of the character Ford Brody, with fans feeling as though his character lacked emotion compared to his co-stars, like Bryan Cranston. However, Ford did survive the Monster clash between Godzilla and the M.U.T.O.'s so it's likely his character could play a role in the sequel - but from what we've heard so far, there has been very little talk internally regarding his return to the franchise. A second interview cropped up on Collider recently, to which Aaron gives a very similar answer to the same question, revealing no additional information.

Human actors aside, we do know for sure of 4 characters which will be making an appearance in the new Godzilla sequel! Godzilla, obviously will return when Earth is once again set off-balance by the introduction of three very iconic, but also very destructive forces; Mothra, Rodan and the infamous Ghidorah! The three Monsters were announced at last year's Comic-Con.
Legendary and Warner Bros.' Godzilla 2 should not be confused with Toho's upcoming Godzilla (2016) movie which will release next year.
