I really can't wait to see what Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah will look like in the movie.
@jiger9899:
That's good to hear about Thomas Tull. He's a fan and responsible for a lot the great spectacle we've had over the years.
Hey, whatever brings in the numbers, right?
Numbers numbers numbers.
I think the concept of Gamera would work fine, especially seeing how the trilogy dealt with it. That being said, the likelyhood of it happening? Well...
I'll say this much, I read a Deadline article that paints Kong's box office prospects in a more positive light. Hopefully, and just maybe, it will squeak by as a modest success.
Even though those aren't real movies I would love to see them get made, except for Gamera. I don't hate Gamera but I do think that the concept of a giant flying turtle is a little too goofy for the Legendary series.
?

Anyway, yeah, I'd love to see more solo Kong stuff, particularly in this universe. I just don't have high hopes for it. In fact my optimism for Godzilla vs. Kong still happening will likely depend on the numbers this weekend.
Krakenbane,
Just because the film ended like it did doesn't mean it's a thread for a follow up. X-Men: Apocalypse didn't follow up with Mystique rescuing Logan in X-Men: Days of Future Past. 10 Cloverfield Lane didn't follow up with the ending of the satellite crashing down at the end of Cloverfield. In the realm of the Godzilla series, GMK didn't follow up with its open ended finale.
The ending is a very loose plot thread (if you can even call it a 'plot' thread) and a visual that was largely placed there to be symbolic. It can just as easily be written off--Or, as I mentioned in a prior post, the creatures sprouting from his tail could be dead and Godzilla's biology damaged to the point where he's stuck in his current, more traditional form.
Whatever be the case, to assume Toho would allow a movie about humanoid Godzillas running amonk instead of utilizing a more traditional Godzilla silhouette is a major miscalculation. On what planet has Toho ever allowed the franchise to go that outside the box? They're too strict to allow it. I'm amazed Anno got away with as much as he did.
Hi guys.
My first post here and I can also confirm,
that there is a little teaser towards
Godzilla 2 after the Credits of Kong !
Just got out of the cinema.
Very nice movie btw...:)
I`m spoiling a bit so be aware..but not much though.
After the credits, the main characters are held
captive by a first unknown organisation,
which turns out to be Monarch.
Then they say something like:
"This world never belonged to us"
and after that, footage is shown of some old wallpaintings.
In which you can clearly see
Gojiira and King Ghidora fighting each other :)
That was the second one.
Dont remember what exactly except Gojiira,
was shown in the first one. I believe it was a moth...?
So...a lot of fights to come for mankind ;)
It ends with a loud roar of Gojiira - just awesome !
Now thats clear....I´m sooo excited ;)
Assuming a sequel might be based off the film's ending might be . . . premature? Okay, I'm just responding to the way it looked like the director was taking things. Straight to Titan!
Perhaps a slightly more feasible premise could be for another, different mutant life form to emerge as a challenge to Goji. It might even force a surviving homogoji (sorry, it fits) to use its emerging intellect and work WITH humanity to ensure both species survive.
That ending left a whole range of options to play with, the first one that struck me was keeping with the Horror aspect of Shin Goji and go All Titans Attack on Japan, yo!
Wow. There I go thinking like a fan and not a studio exec. My bad.
So, maybe I WOULD be surprised if Legendary actually tried something New and Creative. As a fan, I think I might LIKE to see a few "King Kong VS - " flicks, maybe including a modernized MechaniKong even! Then, I would throw a challenge Kong could not beat alone at him, and ta-da! Godzilla returns for that team-up I've seen mentioned around here.
Never gonna happen, you say? Okay, but you might agree taking the "monsterverse" in such a direction could be a pretty cool way to go.
GMan-2887
Thanks very much for the clarification!
I'm getting a feeling that this is an abandoned Earth after monsters ravaged the world
Considering how easy shin could tear through buildings with the laser breath, i say shin will slice legendary into little pieces, unless shin needs to charge said laser breath, then if legendary can get close enough, then legendary will win in a melee fight. however, shin's tail is still pretty maneuverable and the beam coming out of it is supposedly as powerful as the mouth one, so that could be used to easily kill legendary since he can't dodge something that fast.
We're glad you're excited!! In addition to the Dallas convention in May, there will be another Famous Monsters convention in San Jose in October, our Halloween Bash. Hope you can make it to one of them! We're so excited for the dinner and movie event in Dallas, make sure you get your tickets early!
I didn't even know that this "Famous Monsters Convention" existed. I wanna go someday.
Thanks for the heads up FamousMonsters! You guys are great. What an exciting time for fans in the Dallas area.
KingKaijuGojira-Very true
Can't wait!!! I really hope they make him a force of nature in this film, one that will fight the military and attack the other monsters with ferocity.
@Jamaal, I think he is staying on as producer just for the monsterverse films.
With Thomas Tull no longer at Legendary, I wonder what this means for the other producers from Godzilla, like Alex Garcia, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent? These came to mind because they're featured in the extras on the Warner Bros. Blu-ray.
Just wondering.
I'm very happy that the film is actually happening. I was beginning to wonder with the departure of Gareth Edwards and the sale of Legendary to the Wanda Group. So, any news about the filming is welcome. I'm beginning to get really excited about the sequel, although I think five years is a long time between films in a series. A new director offers the promise of a markedly different approach to the subject matter, the atmosphere of the film and the way Godzilla is portrayed.
I believe the concept of a "MonsterVerse" is brilliant, and not just for the potential of crossovers. This continuity could go a lot of places, God willing , especially given the source material.
Some non-spoiler photos, however vague, would be nice. But, there's no rush with about 744 days to go.
I agree with Gman2887. They're probably trying to build up anticipation for the design reveal. Remember how long it took for Legendary Godzilla and Shin Godzilla's designs to be revealed?
There was an interview with Alex Garcia that said they are filming in Atlanta in June.
Sword Sam- Good luck.
I live in Atlanta so I'm gonna try to get in as an extra!
Gman- I think that make's sense.
Ultrazero,
I think they're waiting to reveal it March 26th at Anime Japan.
Mikikame,
As far as we know it's a movie, not a series. It was revealed recently that the voice actors have "wrapped" recording, which seems unlikely for a series. Regardless, hopefully that will be clarified March 26th as well.
Looking more & more interesting can't wait for this series to come out!
Wonder why they haven't shown anything about Godzilla yet.
Cashing in to the success of Alien: Covenant perhaps? ;)
Not a big fan of anime, but this seems interesting!
Fact: The GBUs severely injured Shin but would lose 96.72%, achieving only 2 meters out of the initial 61 meters, of their effective penetration on strong granite. Strong granite on the Mohs hardness scale is a 7+ at best; for comparison, Heisei Super Mechagodzilla had diamond coated armor, which is rated as a 10 (although there are harder materials). But the Mohs scale isn't the best comparison as it just asks which material can scratch which; a better comparison might be the Vickers scale in which a Moh rating of 7 corresponds to a Vickers hardness of 1,200 kg/mm^2 and a Moh rating of 10 corresponds to a Vickers hardness of 10,000 kg/mm^2, eight times the hardness of the Moh scale 7 rating. (geology . com)
Speculation: This suggests that ShinGoji is significantly less "durable" than SMG; at least eight times less durable.
Fact: Looking up the L/44 cannons on the Japanese Type 10 MBTs in the movie shows that the 120mm rounds have under 1 meter of RHA equivalent penetration through single layer composite steel. Steel maxes under 5 on the Moh scale ~ 500 kg/mm^2 Vickers scale.
Conclusion: It makes sense that the tank rounds did nothing while the penetrator bombs punched through.
Fact: Concrete and steel are nowhere near the hardness of diamond.
Conclusion: ShinGoji's beam may slice through concrete, glass, and steel buildings like butter, but that does not guarantee that it could penetrate SMG's diamond coated armor, and it would be faulty speculation to conclude that Shin's beam is a trump card to all other kaiju.
Conclusion: ShinGoji's durability is comparatively inferior to LegeGoji's durability considering the numerous multi-megaton nuclear survivor feats.
You know what Gman. When you put it like that I do agree with you.
^You mean the fan wars that spark every movie? Pft! If that's your reasoning then I absolutely want and hope for a sequel. I really don't care if some fans complain. I do care if they negatively effect the push for any artistic merit in this franchise. Not making a sequel because a few fans got their feelings hurt and started arguments is the absolute worst reason to not make a sequel for any franchise ever.
In any case--The movie is the highest grossing live action film in Japan over the last three years and it just took home seven Japanese Academy Awards including best picture. My money is on Toho chomping at the bit for a sequel.
I mainly don't wanna see a sequel because of the fan war that was sparked from the movie.
^Agreed. While I don't think they should go the millennium route of reboot every movie, Shin seems too standalone. I'm sure they could do it, and maybe even turn out a great product, but it doesn't really seem like a story that NEEDS a second part.
Krakenbane,
I doubt that's the route they'll take. However they get around that there would have to be a traditional looking Godzilla at the center of the film. Toho wouldn't do it otherwise. Assuming an entire sequel would be made on the concept of the film's ending alone is a bit premature.
To be brutally honest I really don't wanna see a sequel.
How might it be like Titan? I'm thinking hoardes of fifty foot tall, man-eating homogoji's preying on humanity.
Man-eating homogoji's. Hah!
