The troll(lololol) is strong with this one.
Most of you have your heads so far up your asses it isn't even funny. Even the Japanese Godzilla films passed the 1998 American one had shitty special effects, bitten parts from other movies and were cheesy af. So what if the 1998 version wasn't your original Godzilla, atleast it was watchable. I think that Godzilla is dope af compared to some ghetto unproportioned costume
There's nothing I can say about the movie that hasn't already been said. I was very stoked on it after it came out, and I still hold some deal of admiration for it for being the end of the 10-year drought and helping to reinvigorate the franchise. I like the film, and I doubt that will ever change, but my enthusiasm for it has waned upon repeated viewings. There are a few great standout moments in the film, and even its weaker aspects are handled better than what some of Hollywood has to offer, but with Shin Godzilla and the promise of many more upcoming films, Godzilla '14 is becoming more and more of an afterthought in my mind.
I do like the film, and I do appreciate its place as the first successful American Godzilla film, but I'm much more interested in the upcoming sequel, which I hope is a noticeable improvement in many aspects, and in Toho's upcoming offerings, namely the anime trilogy. Not to mention I still find a great deal of enjoyment in the rest of Toho's Godzilla library, and am more likely to go back and rewatch any of those films than G14.

I like it, but I do admit that the character development was mediocre, Cranston dying 40 minutes into the film was ridiculous seeing as how he was marketed as being the lead, and those cutaways were frustrating; I have NO CLUE what Edwards was thinking there. I have a feeling that this movie will level off over time as far as people who like it and dislike it. As for me I liked it May 16, 2014 and I still like it now even though there are things in it that could've been done better.

31. I like it a lot, not my favorite or anything, but still a fan.
I tried to watch this film last week and actually fell asleep on it. Watched it today and nothing has changed.
I appreciate the film for bringing Godzilla back but, the film is so boring. Max Borenstein can not write characters worth anything. Aaron Taylor Johnson's character is one that I can not feel anything for. He tries to incorporate a character that has no emotion but "hide my inner emotions."
I know the main criticism of the film is "there's not enough Godzilla screen time" but, it's not really the screen time that counts. It's what you do with it.
The story is more bland than anything. Two of the greatest actors were killed off way too early and brought down the film. The build up was seemingly great in the first viewing but, it becomes less dramatic.
2014 is surely a middle of the road film at best. The characters had nothing to really connect with other than Bryan Cranston.
While the monster fighting was decent, the climax was nothing too spectacular. Sure, it's a nice monster finish but, Godzilla vs Biollante and Godzilla 2000 incorporated that finish long before 2014 with the "kiss of death" that's highly overpraised.
All in all, 2014 is a bit better than some films, but compared to what Ishiro Honda has done along with Shusuke Kaneko and Hideaki Anno, the film falls short.
I'm glad we have it but, it's not my go to film. Hopefully Mike Dougherty makes a film a lot more promising.

31. Absolutely Loved Shin Gojira, easily one of the best Godzilla movies out there, definitely in my Top 3. I like the risks that TOHO, Anno, & Higuchi took with this movie while still staying true to the character. Despite that it did drag when Godzilla goes into hibernation, IMO Shin Gojira is definitely up there with G1954 & also G1984 as being a GOOD Movie, which in truth something that can't be said about most Godzilla movies. Don't get me wrong they're entertaining as hell but there not good movies. I love the design of Godzilla, its everything that G54 represents, an unnatural abomination of a creature, something that should not exist & is the mistake of Mankind.
I think a few watches ago the movie kind of leveled out for me. It's still ok but mostly due to the strong first act.
It will probably sit in the lower middle area for me in terms of g movies.
The lighting issue is largely just a problem with the Blu-ray. It didn't look that dark in theaters and the Toho Blu-ray is brighter as well.
I think they should have made the scene brighter.
Facehuggers I liked the dim lighting. Makes scenes more dramatic.
^Even though six out of seven of the 80s/90s movies included climaxes that took place at night. ;)
Admittedly, I had an easier time watching the climax of the movie since I found a worthwhile video setting. Still, it otherwise wasn't a very exciting experience due to the reasons I specified above.
1. Otachi
2. Pretty much any Godzilla roar to be honest. It's hard to pick a favorite. G54 has that ominous tone to it, the 90's has that animalistic grumble, millennium has that awesome metallic feel, G14 has that epic rumble; hard to choose. Titano's roar is also one that's just fun to listen to.
3. Godzilla's Revenge
4. Haven't seen a Gamera film yet, but I do need to get around to it.

8. Godzilla vs. MUTOs ; it just felt so intense compared to other Godzilla battles.

10. Gyaos
11. Don't really know how to respond to that. I'm not really one to pay attention to DVD/BluRay case covers. The criterion collection Gojira '54 case looks pretty cool I guess.
12. A Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover would be pretty neat if they can figure it out and keep it non-canon towards the MonsterVerse. Like a stand alone movie.
Of course Godzilla vs. Gamera movie would be welcome too.
13. Gamera 3
14. Godzilla 1998
15. Haven't seen a Gamera movie yet, but I'm pretty sure Godzilla vs. Jiger will be pretty far down the list.
16. Orochi. If that doesn't count, Dogora
17. I saw the Godzilla vs. Legion fight on YouTube. That was pretty decent I guess. XD I really gotta see some Gamera movies.
18. The Pacific Rim kaiju roars are pretty bland; they got like no personality. All the kaiju sound like the same bland "RAARRHGHHRGRGHRHGRHGHRHGH" that you hear with Hollywood monsters.
19. Jirass
20. A lot of the MonsterArts figures are pretty great; hard to say a single favorite. Biollante, G54, G2001, G2014, King Ghidorah, Kiryu, and MechaKG are all great figures.
21. Godzilla's appearance in G2014. Just that whole sequence. Holy shit.
22. Like, lyrical song? Who Will Know If we're talking songs in general, then the list is too long to put here. G2014 has a great foreboding soundtrack, G1954's soundtrack is brilliantly haunting, GMK's has an intense and almost gothic soundtrack, I could go on.
23. Godzilla's Revenge. I don't care if it was meant to be goofy or not or if it was meant to be a big lesson for kids; that was the worst kaiju movie I have ever seen in my life.
24. Kiryu
25. Godzilla x Mechagodzilla had a number of cool cameos, from Mothra, to the Gargantuans, to 54 Goji. 54 was probably the coolest though, as it really brought home how Kiryu was essentially the original Godzilla but now in high tech armor.
26. Legion
27. S.H. MonsterArts Gamera is probably one of the best Gamera figures out there
28. S.H. MonsterArts MUTO. It doesn't exist, but that doesn't mean I don't want it. If we want something that is actually out there, then I guess S.H. MonsterArts SOS Kiryu is something I've been looking for too.
29. Godzilla Unleashed (Wii). I have so many memories with that game XD
30. While it's not my favorite look of the guy, Showa King Ghidorah is probably my favorite interpretation of the character: a monster from outer space that likes to destroy planets for fun.
31. The movie itself was pretty good. Heavily flawed (characters were bland, effects and soundtrack were a mixed bag, and it could use some better editing) but a pretty awesome Godzilla movie; easy top 10. The 'suit' also looks a great deal intimidating, though it's not exactly what I would call the ideal Godzilla. It's a nice breath of fresh air, but not something that should be considered the core of the character, I would think.
I have very similar opinions on the film, G. H. (Gman).
However, my biggest complaint is that the climax at the end is way too dim! I hope they bring back the broad daylight kaiju fight scenes from the Godzilla Versus series back in the 1990s.
Nevertheless, well-written review! Upvoted!
Liked it, still do
I like it, monster action could have been better tho.
Man, sucks that the source coding messed that original attempt to post it so badly. All fixed now.
I saw it once and have no desire to see it again. I believe, like Pacific Rim, the film chose the wrong character as the protagonist.

31) Fricking love Shin Godzilla and I still haven't got myself a copy
It is very good to see Sally Hawkins back as Dr. Vivienne Graham. I feel she's integral to Monarch, and that Monarch is integral to the narrative of the "MonsterVerse." I think that Hawkins got the most out of what she was given to work with in the first film. She's a brilliant actress. I hope the writing does her and her character, Dr. Graham, justice.
Thanks. Currently developing chapter 6 as we speak.
Eh I wouldn't say Honda and Fukuda perfectly balanced the human and monsters climaxes, at least at first. It wasn't until Ghidorah the Three Headed monster that I really think they got it down to an art.
This is true. The human story has to matter. Tying it to the monster arc is important and I believe one of the key parts to a successful giant monster movie.
As for this particular question, I have always liked the idea that Ghidorah is strait up more powerful than Godzilla. This way human intervention on Godzilla's part is what can help defeat Ghidorah.
If it relates to the topic at hand and stirs up discussion, I see no reason to discontinue them, Gowhaletours. At least half of the participants, if not more, in these discussions don't seem to mind, and it's fun to speculate on these things.
@TheTruthIsOutThere
I understand that people like your posts, but can we keep them in your own threads please? You can hardly view a topic without those rumors. It's getting annoying.
More to come in the near future.
Regarding Anguirus and Manda, EmptyH, those two are relatively easy to fit in with the current MonsterVerse.
It's Mecha-Godzilla who's the truly hard sell. He's got the raw popularity, but the MonsterVerse hasn't established enough of the wackiness and technobabble necessary to make his inclusion a viable decision yet.
In a few films time, adding more outlandish elements piece-by-piece, we could get to that point. We can't make the mistake of diving in too quickly like many other studios are doing with their own attempts at cinematic universes.
This story just keeps getting better.
Anguirus
Mecha Godzilla
Manda
Those are the main 3 I want in the films, but I want there to be compelling reasons for these monsters.
Alright, some photos! Standard destruction and property damage, but it's good to have a first look now.
Monsters sounds?, interesting.
