My history of Godzilla has began with childhood. I was between the ages of 3-5, somewhere in there when I witnessed this famous monster on cable t.v. with Godzilla vs Megalon being my first film.
Later, I owned every Godzilla film on vhs until the dvds and blu rays started popping out. I still own all of the trendmasters Godzilla figures I was able to get my hands on. What's very disappointing is the fact I had to get rid of the vhs tapes due to not having a vcr anymore. It killed me getting rid of them.
Fast forward to where I'm at now, my history with Godzilla has led me to learn everything I could about the whole franchise. From directors, to studying tokusatsu, to actually learning japanese so I could read japanese books on Godzilla that go a little bit beyond anything our famous English Godzilla experts could bring us, although their information is very legit and very helpful. Looking at you, Ed Godziszewski, August Ragone, Steve Ryfle, Keith Aiken, and David Kalaat.
So, my history with Godzilla is far from over. The Japanese Godzilla books I own have given me much information Not found anywhere online (for the time being) and has even showed me every Aztec of tokusatsu.
All in all, my passion for Godzilla will only end when my body dies, but not my soul. ;)
I don't think they should team up. I want to see a battle between the two. Good old fashioned beat down, a slobber-knocker of a showdown. I want both of these great monsters to fight until death.
However, can't always get what you want. If they do team up, I'm not really against it as long as it is for a good cause. It would actually be a first time thing to see the two team up. But, we all want the "vs" to stay that way.
As long as the film is good and it actually involves these two knocking each other around, then butts will be glued to the seats begging for more.
I just hope Godzilla king of the monsters 2019 and Godzilla vs Kong 2020 are so good that they succeed not only here but worldwide.
The timeline actually explicitly refers to the events of Skull Island: The Birth of Kong. That makes me more confident that this comic's continuity won't end up being as dubious as Awakening.
No. I never cared for King Kong and Godzilla movies mixing.
No, that would ruin the whole point of the "VS" in the title.
Godzilla and Kong are probably going to team up because their mother's name are the same.
@TheTruthIsOutThere lol I really hope you aren't effing with us.
I'd like to see it, but first let them beat the shit out of one another. Just because Batman vs. Superman messed it up doesn't mean this movie will.
No, in the original they declared a winner. I'm going to this movie to watch Kong and Godzilla fight, no need to muddy it ala Batman v Superman and put anything else in.
Hope they fight, and if they do team up it's just for a small amount of time and then have their final duel in the climax.
Yes, because it's like Rex vs Spino; if you have one win, the fans of the other will get pissed.
This is awesome! Part of Godzilla 2 now officially exists on film! That's pretty cool to think about!
I'm really loving the way info is being released. It's like classified government files being released/leaked to the public. I hope something like that is an element in the movie. People find out about the other monsters not because they get reawakened, but because files get declassified and leaked after a very public hearing about Monarchs involvement with the MUTOS in Janjira.
Maybe that's what the mercenaries are for? People are so afraid that these monsters could wake up that the mercenaries are sent to eliminate them before they can wake up and that in effect does actually wake Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidora?
Told yah to expect something at SDCC
See you there ;)
Rodans kept under wraps in the volcano
Ghidorah is in Siberia

Any Toho monsters that are just overgrown animals can fit in the MonsterVerse.
In terms of a retrospective, coming from me who was a massive G 14 supporter in 2014 when it came out--I do have to admit it doesn't hold up well. The actors cast beside Bryan Cranston aren't given good roles, or positions for the film. And the 2 hours of dialogue diminish the final battle's effectiveness to draw your attention. G 14 just doesn't hold up well to me anymore.
Anguirus = pretty easy to fit into monsterverse
could be an inhabitant of an undiscovered island aka Infant Island
I personally think it is garbage from top to bottom. I saw it opening night in 1998 and almost walked out. Last year I tried to give it a re-watch and I didn't last an hour.
^I don't think it says that much--GMK is head and shoulders a better movie and widely agreed as such. I think it says more that I find movies from 40-50 years ago to be more engaging and worth my time.
Heavily agreed, if Cranston was the main character then the whole thing would of panned out a lot better. It says something when I find GMK more exciting and entertaining then a movie that came out 3 years ago.
I can go on FOREVER to why I despise it
Happy Fourth of July!!!!
1) Trespasser, really awesome looking and to be honest I actually think he's the strongest.
2) Very hard to pick as I love the 54 and showa series roar, but I will say Millennium Godzilla, it just has so much oomph and power behind it.
3) Godzilla's revenge
4) N/A (I haven't gotten to the Gamera franchise yet)
5) The T-rex/Red Zord
6) N/A (Haven't gotten to Ultra man either)
7) Viras
8) Really hard to pick, especially between Final Wars three monster fight and GMK final fight. But I'll say that GMK's final fight wins. (The final fight is from when Mothra and Godzilla start fighting till Ghidorah dies for the last time)
9) I'll say Hedorah, but to throw this out there, the Son of Godzilla Godzilla is pretty terrible to me.
10) N/A
11) There's a ton I would want here, but I'm gonna have to give the newer cover for the 54 Godzilla. Just love how it's black and white with G sitting there watching the planes fly past him.
12) GMK Godzilla and the Gamera from the Gamera Trilogy
13) Heisei Gamera
14) I think it was G 54, but as far as my memory is 100% sure on, G 2000.
15) N/A
16) Rodan (From his original movie), if not then Baragon (Frankenstein Conquers the World), still if not then the Gargantua's.
17) N/A
18) Gabara or Ebirah
19) N/A (Though if I just had to go off of looks I would pick the Kai Dragon)
20) Really hard to say as some hold the value of looking nice, while others hold sentimental value. I guess I would have to say my G 54 Bandai America figure. Although my Bandai Japan G 64, Destroy all Monsters G, my big green G, and my Neca G 54, 01 come very close.
21) Yet again really hard, but for me I would say G's appearance in GMK. Although I love many of his showa appearances such G vs Kong and G vs Mothra.
22) Really love all of Godzilla/Akira Ifukube soundtracks, but I would have to say Godzilla's Resurrection from G vs Kong.
23) Godzilla's Revenge
24) Hard to pick but I would have to say Mecha-Godzilla 3, although the Original Mechagodzilla is so close to one he's practically holding it with 3.
25) Baragon in Destroy all Monsters
26) N/A (But if going off of looks I would have to say Gyaos)
27) The original Baragon mini figure (To be honest I think it's the only non-Godzilla kaiju figure I have).
28) S.H monsterarts Godzilla 1964
29) Godzilla Save The Earth for the Xbox
30) Would have to say Showa King Ghidorah, although I really like Showa Mechagodzilla for this.
31) Think it's just fine, especially for the movie. That being said I'll still take almost any old Godzilla incarnation over it, especially showa.

31. It's really grown on me. Not one of my all time favorites, but still pretty cool.
Even though my thoughts on this film decreased slightly, I still love it. Though I do agree it has some big flaws (Not a lot of Godzilla, ATJ is mediocre at best, slow 2nd act, killing off Bryan Cranston), but the good far outweighs the bad (Awesome music, visuals, cinematography, Cranston's performance, final battle, creature designs, 1st act). I still hold a lot of respect for it for revitalizing Godzilla after a decade of nothing, and I think it's a good start to the Monsterverse.
Good to at least see some real pictures from the movie
I agree, I think the biggest claim to fame Godzilla 2014 will have is that it brought the franchise back, not necessarily being a great entry in the franchise though. It's like that line from Prometheus, "Big things have small beginnings." Godzilla 2014 is the start of an era of Godzilla films, one where both America and Japan are able to reach the farthest reaches of the fan base as well as attract new fans to the franchise and possibly make this time the largest growth in popularity for Godzilla yet. Godzilla 2014 did what it had to do, plant the seed and bring the franchise into its next evolution, even if there were some growing pains.
What do you mean, GMan? The "Godzilla 1998 is good because all the Japanese Godzilla movies are garbage" argument has always been a very logical and completely legitimate defense of the film. If the only defense of the film is belittling those that came before and after it, isn't that the mark of a truly "dope" film?
