If they are doing a 3rd monster, it would be interesting if it is revealed that the 3rd monster is an out of control human created monster that was meant to originally protect humans.
i wouldn't mind seeing aliens. Aliens in a any Godzilla film will never be a stretch, i think, for the fans. same with a MechaG. they do have that Godzilla skeletal system from the first movie. maybe a kiryu thing? but yeah i think an alien MechaG would make a come back just fine in this series. its been a long time since we see an alien mechaG

That would be sweet! Fans have been asking for that for years! I think everyone here agrees that they would all love to see that really happen in a Toho or Legendary universe. Not the classic Daiei universe. although i loved the 90's series of gamera. that was pretty awesome.
i think the pattern Legendary is taking with their protagonist MUTO designs is that all of them(so far, although the cave paintings of Ghidorah would lead me otherwise to predict) are hunched over. Like the male and female MUTO in G14, and the Skull Crawlers in K:SI. they all had a similar body language and movement. they both seem to hunch over. i certainly hope that King Ghidorah wouldn't hunch, but i wouldn't be surprised if they go with that Dragon characteristic. if they did i don't think his wings would look as menacing as they always did. What make king ghidorah so different and unique from other dragon monsters in every culture or fantasy is that it what it lacked in apendages is well over compensated with that fact that it has 3 heads! and the wings also made up for the lack of arms.
if they keep the design anywhere close to the sculpture, it would still look pretty damn close to the original mothra design.
Im just saying, there is always a freak of nature or phenomenon that always questions our basis for reality. These characters and monsters go by what laws of nature change for them. they are "mutants". our laws don't apply to them.
Actually, that whole "bees can't actually fly according to reality" thing is an urban myth, perpetuated enough that some people actually take it as fact.
Besides, things like "energy fields" and whatnot are more explicit science-fiction, something that the MonsterVerse hasn't been keen on perpetuating as of yet.
i think all these Kaiju's develop there own energy fields. they are like bee's, according to laws of aviation bee's cannot fly but yet they do. Kaiju and MUTO's don't care what laws mankind made. they follow there own rules.

I just thought it would be cool. yeah toho also kicked MST3K around for putting out Godzilla vs Megalon on one of there box sets and then they were "recalled" only so many went out into circulation. I don't know if there will ever come out with the episode featuring Godzilla vs The Sea Monster on one of there dvd box sets. I get, Godzilla is Toho's baby. Copyright can be a pain.

I would LOVE if the opening sequence to Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters directly animated Godzilla fighting the Shinomura, making Awakening 100% canonical and not in a "some elements are pulled but the entire thing isn't explicitly referenced" way, The Legend of Brian.

I know the Shinomura isn't 100% canon for some reason, bu I'd like to see them appear in a film. A kaiju that can split into multiple parts is a cool idea.
I hope that there isn't a third monster, I want it to be just Godzilla and Kong, but I won't be surprised if it happens. If it does, I hope it's done better than Batman v. Superman

We need to remember Legendary doesn't exactly have free reign. Toho will continue to breathe down the neck of whoever is borrowing their property after 1998. IDW had a hell of a time with it during their comic run and many North American DVD/Blu-ray distributors find Toho impossible to work with when it comes to Godzilla. I really doubt it's a vast gulf different with Legendary.
I know this would never happen but wouldn't it be sweet if it was gamera or a gyaos trapped in the ice. I'd find that a cool way to introduce the Gamera world into the monsterverse.
What made me a godzilla fan was James Rolf's (angryvideogamenerd) "cinemassacre monster maddness 2008 Godzilla-Thon". But the first godzilla movie I seen was Tokyo S.O.S or godzilla 1954.
If I'm being honest I hope we won see the end if the fight or atleast have it be up to the viewers to decide who wins.
The issue is that Legendary needs to pay Toho for the rights to these classic kaiju, and most likely meet a list of requirements for their portrayal on top of it. Legendary decided to acquire Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, but I doubt they'd find it cost-effective or necessary to acquire several more obscure kaiju like Ebirah, especially if they're only going to make a quick cameo. It'd be a lot cheaper and easier for Legendary to introduce new original monsters, as they've already done.
yeah plus I noticed that in K:SI that they really wanted to show off Legendary's MonsterVerse style of making kaiju's. they had a plethora of classic Toho kaijus they could of thrown in there, for example in the trailer when I saw that giant spider I got excited because I thought they where going to feature Kumonga! but they had a pretty neat theme of the flora/fauna MUTO's on the island. that was pretty cool idea. but I think for anything more Godzilla related they should try to appeal to us the fans a little more. I hope they can.
for example in GVK, if Godzilla did visit skull island, he would hafta travel by sea right? and the island is surrounded by that storm right? I think it would be neat if Godzilla had to go through the storm and in that storm would be Ebirah in the water. since we never see them having to travel off the island in a water vessel, maybe that's why no can leave by using a water vessel. Ebirah is out there in the storm. So Godzilla can have a fun quick battle with him. that would be so cool to throw that in there. for us fans. we would get it.
I am just more excited to see the new design of this new MUTO.
By the way, as of today there is 2.8 years until Godzilla vs Kong and 1.65 years until Godzilla 2. Just can't wait for both of those movies.
I have a sneaky suspicion since watching K:SI that since Kong is a antagonist and along with G14 sharing the same characteristic they will somehow meet up, fight, then some new protagonist will show up, force the 2 kings to unite for the first time in like 55 years and beat the new MUTO out and then they go out for tacos to celebrate the union. I know the taco thing seems a bit far fetched but you never know.
that's the new trend of movies that pit two popular icons against each other seem to be heading. They might team up or its a tie in the end. So far every movie featuring this kind of match up tends to lean against except one movie, the original King Kong Vs. Godzilla(1962) movie where in the end you at least see King Kong swimming away, revealing that Godzilla was at the least vested by Kong.
I hope they at least show a clear victor of one battle between them. We all have been waiting for this kind of rematch for a very long time.
They are most likely goin to introduce a new kind of MUTO. I hope its a classic G foe but I have a feeling they want to introduce a new monster.

Legendary needs to ramp this up. Start the marketing campaigns now. Scare the competition. Let all those in Hollywood know.. that the Kaiju Movies are back and better than ever.. and here to stay. Move over Justice League and Avengers.. Godzilla and company.. are coming to stomp all over you.
My hope is that THIS film.. really rocks the foundations of the box office.. and puts the critics in their place.
@therizinorex I agree it makes no sense to build a slow, Godzilla like robot. But hear me out. MechaG works is if he is built by aliens. No people inside the robot(that ruins it for me). Simply use the same idea the 1974 version did. Maybe Godzilla is thought to be dead, so he is then cloned by some Transformers like technology to create MechaG. He is then sent to destroy the world, along with KG, only for the real G to show back up. I know it's a shot in the dark but that would be my ideal G movie. Combing Godzillas 2 greatest foes, while still having Kong at his side to help him.

@willnotbenamed I like that Jurassic World comparison a lot better than BvS. Mainly because I actually like JW. But the reason why I like that film is because they didn't call it Rexy vs. The Indominus Rex. If GvK intends to be a VS. film then that is what it should be. After all, the title is Godzilla vs. Kong.
I agree, I see a team up whether we want it or not. I just hope when Kong and Godzilla do fight, it lasts longer than 10 mins like in BvS. That was very lame. Building up the story for a fight that barely lasted 10 mins. Every fan since 1962 wants to see a rematch. Do not make us wait 55 years and give us some half hearted ticket selling scheme. Let Them Fight!
I actually would like to see a "common enemy" monster in GvK. It would be a bit disappointing to see just Godzilla and Kong.
How likely is this basic plotline for Godzilla vs Kong?;
Godzilla encounters Kong in some yet to be disclosed location. They fight and bleed each-other nasty for a bit. Then somehow a very powerful 3rd monster intervenes in the fight, attacking both of them. Kong and Godzilla realize they need to team up to fight aganist the common enemy. They eventually defeat the 3rd monster, but both are too exhausted to continuing on their duel. So they both just leave each-other in peace.
I am thinking that the alliance between Kong and Godzilla will be more of a Jurassic world team up of Rexie and Blue against the Indominus Rex, then a Batman and Superman team up in Batman vs Superman.
This is from a couple years ago dude. When the new toho monsters were announced. Old news. We have more info now than that teaser showed us.
No aliens and MechaGodzilla, Legendary could do whatever they want with the MonsterVerse but plz no Aliens and MechaGodzilla, Those 2 could hurt the MonsterVerse especially MechaGodzilla, not because is unrealistic its because MechaG wouldn't make sense, why would anyone build a slow Godzilla like robot when they can build fast and agile Humanoid robot?

If you feel you actually have an idea worth sharing that is related to that topic specifically then go right ahead and share it with us. I don't care if we talk GvK ideas too, but like Gman said, just be civil.

you are right. I just thought the idea of how our govt would try to react to the citizens poinbt of view, I wasn't trying to shove it down peoples throats. just thought it would be cool. not trying to offend here. I just loved how in The Return of Godzilla and Shin Godzilla you see how the Japanese govt tries to deal with this threat through a bureaucratic approach. you can sense this dark glooming cloud of a giant atomic monster and what its affect on the world through these points.

I'm not saying that because BvS did it badly it can never be done well, just that when people see VS in the title they expect that to be the main point of the movie. I would prefer if when the VS title is used the monsters don't then team up, it's a personal thing, but I don't think that just because both of the monsters were more in terms of "good" in their own films doesn't mean they have to team up, it just means the loser doesn't necessarily need to die.

I don't think the very existence of Batman v. Superman negates the possibility of any "versus" movie ever ending in a team-up ever again. Batman v. Superman doesn't own that idea, and it's not like no other studio could ever pursue that idea and do a better job.
Godzilla and Kong are both being set up as the protagonist monsters. The audience is meant to sympathize and root for them both. Each one will have gone through at least one film beforehand where they are the "hero" and defeat some other, more malevolent monster. Having them fight to the death or having one simply triumph over the other, who is suddenly presented as an antagonist, would be unsatisfying from a narrative standpoint at least in my opinion. Godzilla and Kong are both very territorial. It's easy to justify why they would fight. Just get them in the same location and they will probably fight. Heck, maybe Kong could resent Godzilla for his disregard for human and other wildlife casualties in his battles, since Kong is more conscious of other animals.
Coming up with a legitimate reason for them to fight together against a common foe would be an interesting challenge for the filmmakers to tackle, and one I'd like to see. Maybe someone who hates Godzilla or Kong intentionally pits them against each other, hoping they will kill each other, leaving the human protagonists to attempt to stop them. If Godzilla, Mothra or Rodan end up fighting together in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it will have already set precedent for Godzilla to fight alongside another monster. Kong is also intelligent enough to recognize a friend or foe and know where to focus his rage.
I contest the notion that Batman v. Superman's infamous "Martha" scene means no versus movie should ever end in a team-up ever again. If the filmmakers are talented enough, they should have no problem overcoming the perception left behind by that film and creating a satisfying film that delivers on its premise and concludes the monsters' character arcs. Plus, judging from reports around the time just before Godzilla vs. Kong was released, Legendary and Thomas Tull were confident that Godzilla and Kong could fight and "possibly become allies." Obviously things have changed since then, and nothing is set in stone, but it shows that Legendary may have had the thought of a team-up in their head from the beginning. Their press release announcing the shared universe even referred to Godzilla and Kong as "heroes," making the idea of one being the villain and the other the hero seem less likely to me.
Personally I'd prefer for them to team up, but I also want their battle to be the focus of the film. Godzilla and Kong are both the "heroes" of the MonsterVerse, and it would be anticlimactic in my opinion for their arcs to simply end with them fighting each other instead of some major threat. I'd like to think the existence of Batman v. Superman alone won't determine what direction Legendary takes with the film.
