I can see a flashback featuring the larvae mothra being featured. I can see Mothra defending her egg or eggs from King Ghidorah and showing the babies later after the big battle at the end. IF there is going to be a monster dying it will be Mothra. In a lot of Godzilla based mothra entries, Mothra dies quite often.
Rodan dies twice in the 6 Rodan entries. Mothra dies 6 times out of the 12 movies that feature mothra. im not including what the Hell happened to her in Spacegodzilla. not sure if she died out in space or just wanted to turn into all the fairy mothra's. So so far according to her track record she has a 50% chance of dying in this film. Rodan has about 33.333% chance of dying. Godzilla just wont die. King Ghidorah dies 3 times out of the 6 movies he has been in. And one of the movie he dies 2 times! So Ghidorah also has a 50% of dying as well.
Just saying that there could be room for a Larvae Mothra. Maybe in the endind after the fight
Im excited about this animation of Godzilla. We have never seen a real anime film about Godzilla. Yes there have been a couple of cartoons based off the character. But none of them really captured the real tone and dimensions of the character ever! This is a way to feature Godzilla unlike anything we have ever scene. His size, movement, even facial features can all be amplified through this method of film making.
In a life action monster film as we all have seen in the past has not always delivered the way it should have. For example the opening sequence in Godzilla Against Megaguirus (2000). That was the best they could do with what they had and I felt that it fell short. But it was executed better in other films like Godzilla vs Biollante and Godzilla Final Wars. But still lacked the energy as opposed to what we all have seen in just the trailer for G:MP. This is a great way to possibly show a lot more action and energy in a Godzilla film where human machines can combat a giant monster. If he just fought another monster, well then I would have to agree that this would have been a better live action flick.
Also due to the stipulations in the contact with legendary about toho's limit to feature live action films with Godzilla. this is a great way to show him in the meantime! what a great time to be a Godzilla fan!
The scope of this kind of film simply lends itself more to animation than it does live-action. Would it look cool in live-action?
Sure..... if Japan could muster enough of a CGI budget to constantly do the kind of stuff done for Hollywood feature films. But it's just unfeasible for a live-action production. There's a lot going on: lots of sci-fi technology, a deserted and overgrown planet, the aesthetic plant-based design for this latest iteration of the Godzilla character, etc.
And as stated earlier, the theme song is merely a tie-in from Toho, and isn't actually part of the film's soundtrack.
This version of Godzilla.. should have been done as a live action film.. for it looks way more exciting to watch than shin Gojira (imo).. and I think would have gone way further with the fan base. I look forward to seeing the whole thing. Music wise.. mmm.. not crazy about it.
This Godzilla looks way more ominous.. than shin G... again.. imo.
'the metal like muscle fibers' got my attention. what could cause a plant like life form to make metal
I never stated he was a plant, yes the title says that but only in the form of what a fan would say due to the youtube videos I've seen. I even state he originated FROM plant life in what I said.
^haha! that's great!
still, lets say for the sake of the conversation and NOT FACT on the movie that Godzilla is a plant? The leave-like dorsal fins and veiny body make him look like he came from a plant.
What would cause something like Godzilla to be like that? I think he does get bigger throughout the film. In the beginning of the trailer, Godzilla doesn't seem to be much bigger than what looks like an "intergalactic air base" or airport. And in the new trailer when Godzilla appears when they return to earth they all seem very surprised by 1 or 2 things:
1) Maybe they are surprised that Godzilla is still alive after all this time and or (2) they are surprised by the sheer size of Godzilla.
I don't speak Japanese so I have no clue what they are saying or writing in the trailer other than Godzilla: Monster planet. But you could say hes growing like... a... WEED! *audience applauses, I bow, curtain closes, exit stage left.
So I can only assume he is growing through out the film.
The thing is this whole, "Godzilla is a plant" stuff is unconfirmed to begin with. Yes he has plant-like traits to his design and his origin states that he "originated from plant life", but nothing suggests he's actually a plant himself. Even Biollante wasn't entirely a plant.
The Godzilla series is one where psuedo-science reigns and we don't yet know or understand how Godzilla originated from plant life in the new film. The original originated from sea-life, but he's not the ocean. There's specific chunks of story missing that we don't yet know about: How did Godzilla originate from plant life? What spurred it on? Was some kind of human mistake, ala, bomb tests, pollution, etc, to blame?
He may very well be a plant, but until that confirmation the fan base needs to quite jumping to every conclusion imaginable.

Honestly, I'm intrigued by this kind of unique approach to the character, more than anything.
This is keeping in the spirit of what makes Godzilla as a whole work: huge, destructive, nigh-invincible.
It could just be animation being a more open environment to experiment with to put out more outlandish ideas that wouldn't work as well in live-action settings. That, or Toho has been allowing those contracted to produce films under its watch more creative freedom in how they interpret the Godzilla character.
Also as for Godzilla looking like an old man,i think it fits the character. He is over 20,000 years old in this film. I don't know what fans want from the design after such a long time taking over the planet? He's not Dracula. He wont be looking sexy after all that time.
ah... I see. well its been 18 years since Godzilla 2000 and I hope for everyones sake you are right and he has grown as a composer.
Im really not sure what to think yet. I think its very interesting where they are goin with this origin story. It does pose the question of why make a Godzilla movie that differs from his atomic age roots? It would be like having a batman movie where batman is a poor kid with parents. Kind of changes his arc. But Godzilla is not batman so I digress.
I am anxious to see this Godzilla movie to see what this new concept plant Goji goes. He obviously is immortal, and can change an entire planets eco-systems. That's pretty cool. Not top mention he is the size of a mountain! He is massive! Plus somehow generate new species that evolved from him. we have seen a glimpse like this in Shin. which leads me into my next opinion and feelings about the concept.
Shin Godzilla revolutionized the monster in both origin and character. In the Japanese movies he has always carried the message of anti-atomic exchange and power. Shin didn't really carry that. Godzilla wasn't brought upon from atomic weapons, just nuclear waste from mans ignorance. His 3 stages brought about a different idea of the beast, and the abilities he had! His tail shot out a beam? Crazy! And that ending? what the hell were those things!? Which leads me to believe that since the audience embraced this new Godzilla, why not explore other polarities?
I mean this Plant Godzilla has similar abilities that Shin did. The thin beam, the Servum coming from the Godzilla like the humanoid-goji things coming out of Shins tail, not to mention the record breaking size of Godzilla.
So my point to my rant is, I think we all took Shin's approach with open arms and loved it! So why not throw a plant form at us as well? Its time to awaken new concepts of Godzilla in order to keep him fresh and relevant. So Im comfortable with the idea and story of a plant based Godzilla. Its "GROWING" on me.
riggzamortis86,
Well if you're only judging off of Sony's North American version of Godzilla 2000, you actually may not be considering all of Hattori's stuff. (Unless you own the soundtrack.) About 40% [or more] of Hattori's music was replaced in the American version of Godzilla 2000.
So basically I have mixed feelings about him scoring...
There's some brilliant stuff in his two Godzilla scores, but even the good material sometimes fails to fit the images on screen. I don't hate his material, but often his scores come off as darker than the movie calls for. Or it just feels like he was outright composing for a different movie altogether.
It's telling that both Takao Okawara and Toho felt Sony's cut of Godzilla 2000 was superior, since much of Hattori's material was replaced with music by J. Peter Robinson and it's one of the few times (maybe the only time) that this decision enhanced the movie.
Here's the best example. Both pieces below score the scene when Orga first reveals himself and the fight with Godzilla begins:
Takayuki Hattori - Japanese version:
https://clyp.it/5t0t3lfo
J. Peter Robinson - American version:
https://clyp.it/g1hp0hbz
It's not merely a question of what fits better, it's a question of how Hattori judges what kind of music is needed for a specific scene. He's no Akira Ifukube or Koh Otani in terms of fitting appropriate pieces to the right images. But he also has a lot of anime under his belt--So my hope is that Hattori has improved, not as a musician, but as crew member hired to punch up scenes w/ music.
G.H. (Gman),
As much as I enjoy those movies, I don't like Spacegodzilla's score as much as I like 2000's. Spacegodzilla I found to be too playful or to videogame themed. It didn't sound like a full orchestra playing behind him. more like he used Midi tracks or a key board to use for the music. whatever he used it didn't work for me when seeing Spacegodzilla and hearing the score played to represent him. But 2000's was a lot more fun. So even though I heard only two movies he scored, I guess for me it will be a 50/50 chance that I like it. haha
All in all the movie looks really cool. So I think with the theme of the movie he can deliver an interesting tone.
^Do you think in the future they can smoke Godzilla cannabis? haha imagine that one.
on the same note, it would be fun to see a Godzilla Matango creature as well. just throwing a fun concept out there.
Probably because it's a group of Humans using militant force to takeover a planet and comes into conflict with the local life.
The primary difference, of course, is that the Humans were from Earth to begin with.
Hey, sorry for the late reply. I recently heard of these and found this post in my search. So far all I can find is a release on amazon that appears to only have one episode of each. It says it has subtitles. https://www.amazon.com/Greenman-Godman-Japanese-Language-Subtitles/dp/B01H517YI2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1508891674&sr=8-1&keywords=greenman+godman
There's an ebay listing for the region 2 release, though sadly I can't justify that big of a purchase (85.99+7s) on nonsubbed shows that I don't even know if I'll enjoy. If you find anything let me know!
This looks most compelling! I am getting a faint sense of James Cameron's Avatar for some strange reason I can not quite explain. :)
riggzamortis86,
I'd probably go back to the Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla & Godzilla 2000 scores for a more likely idea of what to expect from the music--For better or worse.
Yeah, lets not judge one artist's score off of a completely different artist's song. These are two completely different sonic facets connected to the movie.
That being said, Hattori does give me pause.
Glad to hear that. I was worried there. I hope the score stays in the same theme of this godzillaian dystopia/end of the world atmosphere.
The song from the trailer is just the tie-in theme song for the film performed by the singer XAI. It's not an actual part of Takayuki Hattori's score. The same thing happened with Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. The tie-in song "Echoes of Love" performed by the band Date of Birth was featured in marketing for the film and played over the end credits, but was completely separate from Takayuki Hattori's score.

I hope what we heard on the new trailer isn't all he is giving us. So far im not all that thrilled with the score.
Im not a fan of the music at all. But I guess when we see the final product I can maybe get a better feel for it. But at this time, the music kind of ruins it for me.
According to the blurb on it in the video, it's a Toho-produced track.
Really liking this Godzilla with his end of the world feel. However I do agree that the music near the end is trash, who thought to put that in.
Like a nuke!
Also, nukes can melt things pretty well, like he did to the Himalayas in this continuity's timeline.
I think the electricity and booming sound are the EMP this Godzilla is said to produce. Apparently he produces it every time he fires his atomic breath.
I don't think Destroyah would make any kind of appearance. As much as that would be great I just cant see what would happen if after an oxygen destroyer were to be used. It could be fun to see kong and Godzilla fight him in 2020. but I doubt it. lengendary has been creating some cool MUTO's. Im sure they have a trick up their sleeve.
But that's not the topic here. I think there is a possibility of Megalon or Gigan showing up as a MUTO. Maybe a mecha-Godzilla(kiryu style).
The least possible monsters to show up are hedorah or any bio-Godzillian monster such as Billante or spacegodzilla showing up.
There are odd effects around Godzilla when he's firing off his atomic breath, such as the blue aura, electricity coursing around his dorsal plates, and an odd booming sound once it fires off.
I've been toying with the idea of Godzilla firing off an atomic breath producing effects similar to a nuclear bomb going off for my own writing, but it seems that Anime has beaten me to the punch :D
this is going to be amazing! cant wait to see this. when will Netflix have this?
That was awesome. I can't wait. Though, I would have liked Godzilla's Atomic Ray to be a bit thicker instead of something like Shin Godzilla's. Oh well. This is still going to be fun.
Man, I'm so pumped!
Also, a guy that commented on Matt Frank's latest art piece on this film made an interesting parallel, that Godzilla and his Servums are like God and His Angels.
I dunno, just an interesting thought.
I just hope we don't have to wait to long until it is available on netflix.
The music tho, it felt out of place.
I really am starting to like seeing this Godzilla in motion. I think it looks so cool to see. That music kind of took me out of the trailer though...
The timeline says that Mothra is currently in a state of cocoon so we probably won't see the Larvae but I think we might see them in a flashback or maybe the intro of the movie.
Man! Biolantte: Monster Planet looks pretty good so far.
