Another push-back date again? Why are they doing this if they know that their rights to Godzilla expire in 2020?
All this talk of what the Ghidorah design's going to look like, and yet, am I the only one thinking of what Rodan's and Mothra's designs might look like?
Yikes
Why May though? There's some fierce competition in May; Avengers 4, Aladdin, and that Detective Pikachu movie.
June would have been a better month; there's hardly anything in June at the present time.
It's releasing on May 31st.
Though I'm talking about as far as us fans would be concerned? If it had everything that makes "Ghidorah" Ghidorah but was a wing walker, would we as a community view it as a variant like Kaiser?
Sony referred to their monster as Godzilla, but we as a community agreed that it wasn't Godzilla, even before Toho made the Zilla name.
So if Ghidorah does turn out to be a wing walker, Legendary would refer to it as KING Ghidorah, but would we as a community look at it as just a Ghidorah varient, since it's not so far removed from the Toho creation as Zilla was.
"Monsterverse Ghidorah as a variant? Similar how we do refer to Kaiser Ghidorah as different to King Ghidorah. "
That is entirely up to the people making the movie. The only thing it needs to be a member of the Ghidorah family is basically 3 heads and a dragonic form. But to be KING Ghidorah, which is what they are certainly marketing and such, there's more stipulations to match along with the base 3 head one. Golden body, two wings, two legs, gravity/lightning beams, etc.
Again, if the film makers just want to make a new Ghidorah, then all they'd essentially have to do is make a unique looking three headed dragon. But if they want to do King Ghidorah, a simple three headed dragon isn't going to be enough to earn the title.
A little off topic but
Cvetan, was the vore really necessary?
I can absolutely agree with the silhouette argument. If the solhouette fails to look like Ghidorah, then the production team failed at a fundamental level. I'd also agree with the Jurassic Bootleg, if they alternated between the two, like an attack and defense stance, I'd be somewhat OK with it.
On the note of multiple creatures being Ghidorah, such as Kaiser, god forbid we get a wing walker, but would it be correct to view the Monsterverse Ghidorah as a variant? Similar how we do refer to Kaiser Ghidorah as different to King Ghidorah.
From the one image we have seen so far, I hope all this discussion is moot and it's just a simple design update like we got for Godzilla.
^That review is not my words. But even outside of the fan base the general consensus is that the 98 movie is terrible even if it wasn't titled "Godzilla". That was the reason for my post. Its just a bad movie.
You cant S#!* on a movie that already was crap to begin with.
Or maybe you people should grow up already and stop vomit shit at one good movie. MinecraftDinoKaiju, the Legendary's version is better from the previous japan Godzillas, but as i wrote for me is still one fat lizard with small head. I was a kid when i liked the Japan Godzilla, now i think the American version is much more realistic beast, but pity it's not so invincible like the Japan's.

^*thumbs up*
Man I'm even more pumped for this movie now....
Maybe this movie shouldn't have been born at all. (Get it?)
Just found this on a random movie site about some of the worst movie reboots of all time. Thought it was relevant.
@Cvetan And what's your opinion on Legendary's version of Godzilla?
Any chance we could have a boxoffice thread for Godzilla City on the Edge of Battle? It just came out in Japan.
Plot Twist: King Ghidorah is actually only spreading his wings, JK
Anyway, why not have Ghidorah vary from knuckle-walking to standing on two legs? It can work if you did it right.
For People who are too lazy(Wait, are those new BC Godzilla figures?).
^Not only that, but it's a Toho presentation, not Legendary. It won't be Toho that reveals the final design. But like you said, the fact they're advertising the real King Ghidorah gives me hope.
Monster Zero is a great way to get fans pumped for this movie. I can tell Dougherty really wants this movie to be for the fans. This is going to be sweet!
I liked the Japanese version when i was little, when the american version itotaly forgot for the Japanese. Godzilla 1998 become my favourite film and dragon. Now the japan Godzilla looks to me fat and ugly, i like more some of the enemy monsters in its movies. I think the american Godzilla looks very cool, great design, and evolutionary more correct- to be fast and agile. I never tired wathing it, even buyed the Trendmasters Ultimate Godzilla figure before a few months.
I am wondering if the name of "King Ghidorah" will even be featured in this movie, seeing as he is only named "monster zero" in the marketing so far. if the name of "King Ghidorah" does get in the movie some way, I am interested to see where the origins of that name comes from.
I love that they are using Monster Zero for King Ghidorah's codename. It shows you how much appreciation they have for the franchise.
yes somebody did say titanus.
I hate to be the barer of bad news, but that pic looks suspiciously like the same cave painting from the end of the Skull Island movie.
But hey, that just means they're marketing an upright Ghidorah more, so maybe it means they're trying to keep the classic silhouette.
Looking in to it more, it seems unlikely this represents a final King Ghidorah design. Still... It's encouraging that a very traditional representation of the real King Ghidorah is shoehorned between footage of the 2014 movie. Here's a youtube video of the images. It should start at 15:57, but if it doesn't now you know where to slide to:

The Legend of Brian,
The thing is Toho has established that "King" Ghidorah is different from other incarnations. We have two other "Ghidorahs" that are fundamentally different, though loosely related in design--But it's very clear they're not King Ghidorah. If it's a golden three-headed dragon that fires gravity beams that resemble lightning bolts and has two massive wings and two legs it can stand on... It could be Keizer Ghidorah... (He did stand on his hind legs.)
Toho has gotten away with multiple designs of King Ghidorah without changing the silhouette of the character. It works. If Legendary is too lazy to avoid the countless fanart out there depicting a Wing-walkdorah then it fails.
Though the point might be moot... These images were taken at the 2018 Licensing Expo. I'm not prepared to roll out an article that says, "KING GHIDORAH LEAKED" or "IS THIS THE 2019 KING GHIDORAH", but take a look at the screen in the image followed by what the screen says in the second image.
I'm going to do a little more investigating, but... God I hope so...

Did someone say Titanus?
I do want to respond to Gman, since while I do agree the wingwalker idea would be a poor decision and not something I'd personally prefer, I think if that's the only major change they make to Ghidorah, I'd be more willing to look over it as artistic liberty.
Since the anniversary just passed, I think Godzilla 1998 would be a good example. Let's say hypothetically all that was different in '98 was the design. It had the atomic breath and wasn't killed by the military(or ran away). Would it still be Godzilla? I think technically yes. Godzilla is an irradiated amphibious creature that walks on two legs with massive dorsal plates and breathes an atomic heat ray, broadly speaking. It's a radical redesign, but if that were the only thing changed, I think most would consider it Godzilla. It was this radical design change on top of the other changes and just a generally poor movie that made it easily acceptable for the fans to say it's simply not Godzilla.
In the case of Ghidorah, if it's a golden three-headed dragon that fires gravity beams that resemble lightning bolts and has two massive wings and two legs it can stand on (if they do the wing walker design, I'd hope Ghidorah would at least be able to stand upright for some length of time), I think it'll look OK at least. I'm not saying I'd like it, or it'd even work, but I don't think an aesthetic change like that is worth saying it'll be a total failure. I can appreciate the filmmakers wanting to at least try something different, if Toho even allows them to of course.
I just think it's a slight rush to conclusions to say that if Ghidorah is a wing walker, it's not Ghidorah. Hell we can't even be sure if the technology had been available back then, Ghidorah could've very well been a wing walker in some of the older films.
The idea of an evolving Godzilla a decade ago would've been called sacrilege, but I think most of us here like how it turned out. It can't be as dumb as Kaiser Ghidorah at least. I'd argue that was an even more radical redesign compared to wing walkers since it added appendages.
I do maintain a "it's not broken so don't fix it" mentality for the design, but to a certain extent, I think something new would be a good direction to go in so long as it's not REALLY different
^Holy crap nice catch I didnt even notice that down there.
I think the name titanus could be a new kaiju.
Yeah this is a kaiju flick. All scientific accuracy instantly flies out the window with that.
There was no point in life's time on Earth where the environment was "more radioactive than the present", for instance. That was a big point of the G2014.
If they end up saying that Ghidorah was the first monster discovered by the government before Monarch was even established, then I'd say that is a damn clever way to incorporate the "monster zero" nickname.
"The wing walking Ghidorah will be fine"
Sure it'll be fine. It won't be Ghidorah, though.
"Also having King Ghidorah frozen in Antarctica since the Permian period would be impossible: Earth didn't have a polar ice cap until way after the dinosaurs went extinct."
You really think a movie in a universe that uses the Hollow Earth Theory, which has been debunked since the 1800s, is all that concerned with scientific accuracy?
Just one tiny nitpick Chris. Please show the Showa King Ghidorah.
Love it! "On Earth, you gave this terrifying monster the name Ghidorah. Here, everything is numbered. The monster is Zero."
i swear some Godzilla fans are uncompromising. The wing walking Ghidorah will be fine, i mean if you want King Ghidorah the way Toho has it then why not just watch a Toho movie and be done with it.
Also having King Ghidorah frozen in Antarctica since the Permian period would be impossible: Earth didn't have a polar ice cap until way after the dinosaurs went extinct. Perhaps he got frozen during the Pleistocene which was 4 million years ago, basically the start of the Ice Age.
For whatever reason I can't seem to edit my post. There needs to be a "can" between barely and read.
At the bottom left corner, it says "Titanus"
