Actually a pterodactyl isn't a specific species the closest to that name is the Pterodactylus
It really is, but oh well. MUTO is just an acronym if we're being literal. Pterodactyl, if I remember correctly, is a species of pterosaur and that thing doesn't really look like a pterosaur. At least if you ask me. I get where they were going with the name, just don't think it fits.
Actually you'll find that they didn't take any creative liberty with the atomic breath, the video makes that really clear, I was really surprised when I found out, and it goes into the science of it
It is more in the blue spectrum, though admittedly it's not as bright a blue as what we see in the movies but artistic license is a fun way for creators to make things more visually pleasing. If it were more true to life it would be a deeper blue, very close to like a midnight blue. But that wouldn't look as good on a dark colored creature. Kinda side tracked your post here, sorry about that. Oops missed the post about the video, I'll have to watch that later, I'm sure there's some artistic reason why it's blue.
Yeah the name should totally be changed on pterodactyl, it's way to generic
There is another reason why godzillas atomic breath is blue the reason is in this video, I would explain it but I might not do as well as the video
Yeah I remember reading somewhere that gamma radiation produces blue light but I couldn't remember if that was true or not
Yeah that Rokmutul titan really does bear a striking resemblance to the titan that comes out of the mountain. That would be really cool, because that is one awesome looking monster. I would like to see Pterodactyl as well, but maybe with a better name lol.
@TheGMan123 Well that is and isn't true. Bear with me here I'm not a nuclear physicist I just did research for a book I'm writing. SciFi book, figured I'd clarify that just in case. So the way most modern nuclear weapons, things like the minute men ICBM's, is they are thermo nuclear, which for us non nuclear engineers. That it's a fission reaction that sets off a fusion detonation. This produces absolutely HUGE amounts of gamma radiation, which is in the blue spectrum, which is why I believe Godzilla is glowing blue. That and all of his marketing is blue, and well the atomic breath has always been blue hasn't it.... sorry thinking and typing. While you are absolutely correct that Neutron bombs put out large amounts of radiation as well, they are designed to create fallout. As opposed to the thermo nuclear devices that would eject most of the radioactive material into the atmosphere. One of the reasons nuclear weapons are so horrifically dangerous is that if you can see the flash, it can kill you. Gamma radiation is produced by the act of detonating the warhead and propagates out in all directions. There are certain factors like attenuation to consider, but that's really only if you're behind something seriously substantial. It's also the one complaint I have about the 2014 movie. You see the blast go off, which means anyone who was within line of sight of the detonation just got dosed with gamma radiation.
I don't mean to tirade, so I'm sorry if that's how this is coming across. I like to share knowledge.
Anyway. If Godzilla is feeding primarily off gamma radiation, which I bet he is, then something like Zarbomba would be like you or me chugging several monster tall boys back to back. Zarbomba detonated with an absolutely titanic force of fifty megatons. The amount of radioactive material it would have taken to get that monstrous of a detonation would have released huge amounts of gamma radiation. The point I'm trying to make here, and weather they go this way in the film, is that if the Gman is fueled by gamma radiation then the bigger the bomb the better. Yes this has some dangerous side effects, like obliterating everything in that cave. But it would dose Godzilla with large amounts of radiation quickly, as opposed to a dirty bomb like a Neutron bomb. But either way, discussions like this are fun :)
P.S. I use words like monstrous and horrific, because that's what nuclear power is. It is awe-inspiring, but it is truly terrible as well. Sorry just felt the need to clarify that
Ghidorah is going to lay the beat down on poor Rodan, but I'd be willing to bet given other trailer shots that he survives and fights on later in the movie.
TheGMan123 holy crap that's terrifying to think about
Apparently, regular nukes don't have great radiation output. NEUTRON BOMBS, however, are much more packed. Basically, think of a nuke where the radioactive output has been cranked up a notch.
I imagine that an ordinary nuke wouldn't be able to supply enough energy to Godzilla to get him all blue and pumped like we've seen him. But a neutron bomb? That could give him all the radiation he needs whilst minimizing blast strength.
I've already got Godzilla and Ghidorah pre-ordered from SH-monsterarts. And I can't wait for them to announce the releases for Rodan and Mothra. But to be honest I might also buy that atomic breath NECA figure, that thing is just beyond cool. And depending on how much the NECA figures are I might get them too, I think I have a problem lol XD
From the looks of latest TV spot, I believe all three 2014 scrapped titans will be in the movie i mean the one from the oil rigs seems very much like Talaghan, the mountain one looks very much like rokmutol and the one that probably is rodan emerging from the volcano might be the pterodactyl it self I mean it wouldn't hurt to have two titans emerging from a volcano and I'm only saying this because in first trailer where Vera wakes up rodan he completely just pops out of the volcano and in this recent TV sports we actually see hands/claws emerging first that's why I'm thinking its pterodactyl and not rodan but just my theory so yeah xD
No you'really good the trailers and TV spots are fair game, and that is a pretty interesting theory
What TheGman123 is saying is actually strangely true. There have been instances of animals 'exploding' from eating to large of meals. There's a picture out there of a Burmese python that ate a large alligator in the everglades and was ripped open by it. Quite interesting. Also radiovores? I like that I didn't know that's what they were called that's cool.
I don't think Godzilla can suffer from radiation poisoning, he tanked a nuclear blast that would have been larger than the Hiroshima bomb and kept on going. In the trailer we see a scene of the temple complex he's in getting nuked, then we see him glowing. Well the scenes play backwards in the trailer, but you get what I'm after. This leads me to believe that this blue glow, which is indicative of gamma radiation by the way, is a result of tanking the nuclear blast and absorbing the immense amount of radiation that gives off. As we are told in the 2014 movie, they feed on radiation.
P.S. If you're "no spoiler" tag includes the trailers, my apologies in advance
Oh really I didn't know
Well, I was right about them moving it--I'm just surprised by the direction.
Ah, yes.
I made a thread exactly like this and there actually is already one
That's a relief. This wait is kinda agonizing.
Yeah bow that you mention it Rokmutul could be the mountain titan which would be really cool to see
Now that I've seen the concept art for the two monsters, I can now say my proper opinion: They probably took Pterodactyl's design and used it as inspiration for the small "birds" that killed the guy in the air in Kong: Skull Island. As for Rokmutul, I feel like he's the mountain kaiju in KOTM, so maybe he's finally going to get his chance on the big screen after 5 years. (Though I could be wrong, so take it with a grain of salt.)
Like I said they would probably do what they did with otachi, except have the spread out wings and the folded wings in one package
The main Godzilla figures aren't 12 inches tall, the measurements refer to 12 inch from head to tail, so they're more in scale with 6 inch figures. Most of the retailers that sell the Neca line is usually specify that scale to avoid confusion, thus why the Rodan and Mothra figures are referred to as being 7inch, a width measurement on the wings. So reasonably they could make Ghidorah at 12 inches high or so to be in scale with those Godzilla figures, but it would still be a pretty huge hunk of plastic if they have the wings fully spread in the bat pose.
They wouldn't be in scale to begin with godzilla is 12 inch scale while Rodan and Mothra are 7 inch scale, and NECA has been known to listen to fans
Don't get me wrong I was VERY much looking forward to what they could have put out because Neca makes fantastic pieces (just picked up all of their 1990 movie Ninja Turtle figures and couldn't be happier) but kaiju isn't Marvel or TMNT or even ALIEN and Predator to the mass American public, there's no assurance to Neca that a giant in-scale deluxe Ghidorah would sell well enough to justify all the effort and expense they would have to go to to deliver it. Still hoping for it in my heart of hearts, but not gonna be surprised if we never see it.
Yeah YukisSpecial is right besides when theyou do release it, it will likely be a Deluxe figure like Otachi from Pacific Rim, just give them some time
I know which is why it was a shame that they were scrapped
An online petition for something like this is literally completely worthless. Neca is making business decisions, and they've stated what their reasons are for not making Ghidorah at this time. IF the line sells incredibly well and they decide it's worthwhile to create the figure for the collectors they might still make that decision, but trying to coerce them through petitions or nagging on Twitter or other avenues is a complete waste of time. Support the merch and hope that a large number of others do the same. Or don't. Either way, it will be what it will be.
Wow, these titans look really cool
I remember when I went to the Tuesday showing for Kong: Skull Island after its release where I live, and it was a REALLY packed theatre; had a line-up going in and everything.
I think it's a smart move.
MDK 2 (MinecraftDinoKaiju),
I assumed they would push it back as well to allow for a little more post-production time. But the new date is the same weekend Skull Island was released on two years ago--Yet with far less competition. It's also a weekend many schools have spring break, so I'm assuming WB is banking on that as well.
I have faith that they do plan on releasing it just later down the line

for those who don't know here are what they look like, the first one is Rokmutul and obviously the second is Pterodactyl, they were going to be in Godzilla (2014) but were ultimately replaced by the MUTOs
Why did they move it up? If anything, It should've been moved down. But nonetheless, it was a good decision.
I might get The NECA figures as well, depending on if they release a King Ghidorah figure
The petition is still up. You can sign it if you want.
