Godzillatheking123,
Four times: Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. and Godzilla: Final Wars.
We don't actually see it get destroyed in Final Wars though, we just see it barely standing.
Oddly, it never appeared in the Heisei series.
How many times have the Tokyo Tower been demolished in the Godzilla series? I haven't kept count on that.
Doing it. #GodzillaRewatch Day 5! Buckle up! This is a relevant one.
When you realize one was originally going to play Dr. Hayashida in Godzilla '84, but the other one did instead.
The woman is still the most gorgeous thing in the Godzilla series.
Also, hello same volcano Rodan "died" in.
"No, I'm not a liar."
The Godzilla series--Always ripping into the Japanese government.
"How are the two Mothras?"
We're never told how the other died, but I've read some crazy stuff explaining WHY she did.
Also, the fact the Shobijin are visiting seems to indicate relations w/ Infant Island have warmed.
She says Rodan will be "resurrected", implying one of them survived from the original movie.
Not sure why Sekizawa wrote in this sci-fi work around to explain how Salno survived the plane explosion. Just say she jumped into the ocean. Easy enough to buy.
"I've lost to a monkey and two worms. I need a win here..."
Marry me.
This time the Shobijin do the rescuing.
Same great suit from the last film. No lip wobble. What is it with stars and plastic surgery?
I love how this movie is essentially a Godzilla vs. Rodan flick with a BvS twist. (Though done better.) Toho didn't bother being redundant and decided they had enough setup to bring them all together to fight a new enemy.
On live television. With her assassins out in the open.
Her amount of mental energy is staggering.
This is the first time Tokyo Tower bites it in the Godzilla series, but the 2nd time it goes down in continuity. Mothra trashed it 3 years prior in her movie.
Thanks King Ghidorah! I wouldn't bother rebuilding it at this point.
I dig the idea that the survivors of Venus sought refuge on Earth and Salno is a sort of direct descendant.
Conclusion: Venusians are hot.
Women are from Venus, indeed.
If there's no monster conference in the new movie, Legendary has failed us.
Balls out.
So this does NOT feel tacked on. A fitting conclusion to the movie's crime arc that was established from the start. And King Ghidorah spares no one as his collateral damage kills Malmess. Everything weaves together so well.
Class reunion this May!
#GodzillaRewatch takeaways day 5:
1) Venusians are hot.
2) Tokyo Tower insurance rates must be a real bird.
3) When needing a monster conference translated, bring Peanuts.
THIS IS THE MOMENT I'M MOST HYPED FOR!!!!
I just hope it's not a one-sided thing, where the director favours one monster over the other. It's Godzilla and Kong's movie.
That was very cool! They've done a really nice job with these trailers, from what they've shown, to pacing, and especially music. When they first announced the monster line-up for this movie back in 2014, I’ll be the first to admit I was not overly excited. I felt that Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra had been used and retread more than enough times and I was like, “Meh.” As uninspiring as the MUTOs were in the first movie, I liked that they were new monsters; something a bit different. Since I’ve been seeing snippets of this since last year I’ve gotten far more stoked for this. I love how they’ve seemingly breathed new life into those three and I’m hoping the final product lives up to expectations, because I’m really excited to see this.
On another note entirely, I know that the name Ghidorah is pronounced Ghi-Dora and has been at least since GVsKG (’91), but I grew up knowing the name as and pronouncing it Ghee-Drah (Anglo pronunciation, perhaps?). I know it's pronounced that way in the English dub of Ghidorah and Monster Zero, so maybe. It will always be Ghee-Drah to me; sounds much cooler!
EmptyH,
Trying to wrap Monster Zero up before next Thursday. ;)
What have WE learnt, of course.
So what have learnt? We will get a one-on-one Rodan vs Ghidorah and Mothra vs Ghidorah fight. That is awesome.
And doing a Wizard of Oz music theme...man, it worked. It was incredible.
Goodness... I couldn't help but watch this like 5 times in a row this morning. I might literally shed a manly tear watching this for the first time in theaters.
I've always been a fan of portraying Godzilla as a defender of Earth, not necessarily of humans.
"Godzilla, why would you wanna save the planet?"
"Because I'm one of the idiots who lives on it!"
I didn't know somewhere over the rainbow was playing until you guys mentioned it. I went back and listened to it carefully. I think it works extremely well
^You mean, right off the bat?
That moment you realize Somewhere Over the Rainbow is playing in the background.
Only GODzilla can defeat the devil (Ghidorah)
Hahaha basically. I love the imagery of this spot. I'm preparing a new post actually to address some of it. Everything shown was deliberate and I believe has deeper meaning. Will be fun to discuss and speculate on!
Also - Rodan has serious balls. I can't wait to see him take on Ghidorah.
^Ladies and gentlemen, the entire plot of G'14.
The destructive saviour has arrived!
*one city destruction later*
The destructive saviour has left!
Mothra's new design looks like a cross between her classic design and the male MUTO from G14.
Also, gotta love the Dunkin' Donuts ad :)
"..unless we set Godzilla free."
"This time we join him."
"Good thing he's on our side."
"It's Godzilla's world, we just live in it."
Unless you hated the latest TV spot, time to retire the 'ole, "making Godzilla a hero in the Showa series was a mistake," complaint.
Chris Certainly!

Starts around here
That last one looks like the super massive big brother of the Mother Longlegs from Skull Island.
Do you have a link to your source where you pulled these images from?
Good God... I'm blown away
TheGMan123: Yeah, I never would have thought that "Somewhere over the Rainbow" would appear in a Godzilla teaser...and worked so well with it.
And another thing, did you notice the shot of King Ghidorah juxtaposed with a cross? That's loaded symbolism right there, hinting at the devil-like nature of King Ghidorah. And only Godzilla can defeat him.
Hate to break it to you Cece, But the Monster that was rising from the ground wasn't Anguirus, Legendary does not have the rights to Anguirus, They only have Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Kong.
THAT WAS AMAZING! This is going to be one of the BEST Godzilla movies!
LOVING the usage of unexpected musical choices to contrast the beauty and serenity of the songs to the destruction and chaos of the scenes!

If this is legit, the Mountain Titan from Germany seems to be a florafaunal creature, much like the Sker Buffaloes and Leafwings on Skull Island.
I have screenshots
No idea how accurate those designs are, but they kinda look cool.
The rematch of the century.
King Kong ain't got shit on Godzilla!
Titan of Water,
From the perspective of the natives of Infant Island in the film, they simply don't differentiate between nationalities. They likely don't know of our history and because Japan has betrayed them twice they simply see them as no different from anyone else. It's a fairly simplistic viewpoint, but one that's interesting to ponder: If we were to look at the human race from the outside without lines of nations to separate us, (like the Infant Islanders) would we consider everyone responsible for each others sins and punishments?
In context outside of the movie, Godzilla has long been considered a victim of war and hubris that includes more specific sins from Japan as well. I go into greater detail about this in my article for GMK, here: Before Shin Godzilla - Retrospect of the Last Era, Part 3: Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah
I never got the philosophy of “all humanity including Japan, the victims, are responsible for the atomic bomb.” Can you explain it to me? I tried asking someone who had this philosophy what their reasoning was but he got angry at me and only vaguely told me “cause we allowed it to get to this point”. I really am not trying to be offensive asking this question, I just genuinely want to understand.
