I agree. Yeah, there were some debate over the Mothra design, but I think she comes off really well in this movie. She displays empathy you can't help but feel for.

My only wish is that she could have use the god ray on Ghidorah.

Yeah, I don't think the body can regenerate from the head. Only limbs and heads can regenerate from the body, as long as his vital organs remain intact. We see Godzilla step on Ghidorah, crushing his body with immense force.
However, we do see Ghidorah's head still roaring when Godzilla has it in his mouth before exploding it with his breath. But I suspect the animation of his head would have been short lived anyways.

Yeah, I didn't understand why he stopped burning - Though I assume it was when he used his "superpowers"
But they did explain why it happened - It was cause they gave him too much radiation when they brought him back (BTW - him coming out of the water then gave me chills)

Godzillatheking123Godzilla ForumYour Godzilla KOTM review and how many times you will see it?May 31, 2019Reply
Ok, I just got back from my first screening of the movie. My initial reaction? Mind-blowing monster fights. CGI these days are a hit-and-miss, some are of decent quality, others are not-so-decent and some are downright terrible. Not so with Godzilla KOTM. You can tell the CGI artists and effect specialists really put an effort to get the kaijus right. The detail rendering, shadow and lighting as well as the heft in the kaiju movements are all done really well. My jaw literally dropped during a few key fight scenes. They don't look cartoonish. I admit I was teary for some moments, because this was what I, as a Godzilla fan, has always wanted to see. A grown man getting teary over Godzilla. I am not embarrassed to say that.
As for the story, some critics say it was very thin or even non-existent. I disagree. There is a core theme with a few key characters about the impact of a loss in the family and what that will do to people. And I was genuinely moved in a few scenes with humans. Not going to spoil what those scenes are exactly, but you will know when you see it.
Now the negatives. Yeah, some of the dialogue and exposition could use some work. It can come off a little wooden at times. Also the fast cut editing might just be a bit too fast. I would prefer they linger on some scenes for the gravity to sink in, but they just move abruptly to the next scene without letting you to catch your breath. But are those issues deal-killer? No. Would it stop me from watching the movie again? No. Would I recommend this movie to my family and friends? Absolutely.

G. H. (Gman): Hehehe, you clearly didn't read the reaction from critics after fans were upset over some of their bad reviews of the Dark Knight and bad-mouth the critics. Not really excusable behavior for Batman fans, but those critics who took issue with the fan reaction can be also be seen as rather thin-skinned.
As for enjoying movies without regard to critical opinion, be honest, in this day and age with RT being all the rage, is that really all that realistic for most casual moviegoers? Come on. You and me (and those other posters on this site) may beg to differ over the credibility of RT, but the general audience? I'm not sure they can escape from the influence of RT so easily...

I think this is fake, although I see why people are already having thoughts as the ending for G:KOTM is out because the movie's released. But, the plot for KOTM has already been leaked last year with proof that it was legit, people making up stuff or writing down a plot like this seems completely possible and easily done.

Godzillatheking123,
It's a cop out because critics, the better ones at least, are specifically paid not to succumb to expectation. If they see an action movie attempting simplistic storytelling with heavy focus on kinetic cinematography and choreography, the expectation may be something boorish and mindless. But if the film accomplishes what it sets out to do with resounding success then pointing it out is part of their job. (Enter, John Wick 1, 2 and 3.)
No one ever said you can't enjoy a movie even if critics don't like it. Nor did anyone suggest you couldn't be objective about a film's poor quality, but still enjoy it. However, that's an entirely different topic altogether.
I'm also not sure where the idea that critics can't accept criticism for their own pieces came from. Many do. Even (or especially?) Roger Ebert changed his opinion on films, like Donnie Darko and revisited Independence Day.
You seem to be cherry picking related issues that really haven't been part of the topic, nor are issues I've addressed at all--I'm not entirely sure why.
What I have covered is that art needs to be kept in check, otherwise we get the cinematic equivalent of paint being thrown against a wall. I've said that film critics' jobs are not to tell you whether or not a film is good, but to help audiences engage it intelligently. Just because they do it through their opinion doesn't mean you have to take it at face value. I've also covered that film criticism has been compromised by a website that turned the process of helping audiences engage with movies into a bland statistic. None of this is necessarily a blatant defense as it is an industry truth. The best way to combat the deluded state of the profession is to stop putting stock in Rotten Tomatoes--Which was always a bad idea.

G. H. (Gman): Why is "expectations" a cop out? Why must audience members have the same expectations as critics? Sorry, I just don't buy that argument. I can find a movie entertaining even if the critics don't like it. In fact, I can think of quite a few movies I can fault or even say are plain "bad movies" but still enjoy it.
As for lambasting against critics, that's fair game. Yes, some of it is not really well-founded. But not all. Critics have no issues lambasting films for perceived faults, why is it that they can't accept criticism against their own review?
G. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumIgnore most of the reviewsMay 30, 2019Reply
Godzillatheking123,
Considering the lambasting they're getting from many fans who haven't even seen the film yet, I think the bias is on the other side of the court.
Claiming the problem is based on expectation is another cop out argument, especially since expectation is a problem the audience suffers from as well--Many of which don't think about movies as objectively since it's not their job.

I'd say Anguirus, but after a long, long fight.
Godzillatheking123Godzilla ForumIgnore most of the reviewsMay 30, 2019Reply
G. H. (Gman) The problem may be the critic's expectation. Critics are entitled to review a movie however they want, but you may be a little too supportive of critics I think, since you claimed to be one yourself at one time, you might be a bit biased in supporting them, no?

It's been a long time since I've watched either film, so I don't remember everything. Godzilla didn't have enough Kaiju action for me, like a lot of other people. I'm not much of a Kong fan, which may bias me, but I felt like the final battle was short and a lot of the movie was a bit lack luster. There were some amazing scenes though, and a lot of the human characters made the human scenes pretty nice. The main military dude though. So cliched. Different motive, but he was just an angry dude for most of the movie, "they did this" and just felt like he was whining about something minor instead of watching all his friends who put his trust in him die and feeling pure hatred at the Kaiju. The Kaiju themselves looked great though, but then again, do they all technically count as Kaiju? They're technically originally all from America, and from something that originally had no ties with the series attributed to having Kaiju, so do they count? Anyways, both films were great in their own right, but just a little disappointing. Kong also felt a bit rushed at times to me, but just my own opinion. Still liked both of the movies, hopefully these next movies (including KOTM) will be a bit better. I've heard that KOTM has some boring human scenes/lackluster characters, and their are some "Kaiju-teases", but other than that a great film. I hope they're right. Could be one of the few movies I know of where the sequel was better than the original. Don't say Star Wars because I've never watched it besides half the second prequel (everyone faints around me). XD Once again, great films, just a bit disappointing at times. Anyways, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE KOTM TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SPOOOOOOOOOIIIIIILLLLLEEEEERRRRRSSSSS!!!!!!!!! GOOOOOODZIIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think there's nothing 2014 did better, just that overall as a movie this one was a more fun time more akin to Skull Island in tone than it is the 2014 movie which overall I enjoyed more. I'll probably really settle in on stronger feelings towards it going into the second viewing sometime this week but I enjoyed it for what it was.
