I love those ideas especially the boxing match. These are the two most iconic monsters in the monsterverse so they should be given an "epic battle" type promotion. Ideally a fast food chain would also do some promoting (maybe kids toys too?) and the movie concessions would do what they did in China (I think it was China!) with Godzilla KotM and have the soda/popcorn containers promoting the film too. If this is the last one of the series, go out with a bang!
Godzilla Junior maybe (maybe he's what's in the egg)? Gorosaurus?
Thank you very much!
Good thinking.
Different merchandise for the 2 Titans. Heck, if they could manage it, I think having "opposing aisles" would be cool. One side of merchandise would be all Godzilla, while the other would be all Kong.
Really play up how this is the biggest rivalry in modern film.
Cereal Boxes.
Now here me out: BvS had special cereal with collectible boxes, Civil War had special cereal with collectible boxes, why not GvK? It would be the same style of packaging, Godzilla on one box and Kong on the other, and would put the duo on yet another store isle, raising public awareness. Could be a great way to have younger kids find out about it and get their parents to take them, if GvK keeps f-bombs out of the movie I'd say it'll be a great see-with-your-kids movie. :P Maybe they could come up with a whole new type of cereal instead of another flavor of lucky charms, perhaps a mint chocolate cereal that turns the milk blue for Godzilla, and a cocoa puffs with palm tree and skull marshmallows for Kong.
I dunno, I'd buy it.
This normally wouldn't be something I'd be interested in, but I have to say that Rodan looks absolutely gorgeous.
I like them all but have a soft spot for Behemoth right now. (I hope he doesn't get killed in the next one.)
You're wrong! There's one ending with two versions. However you want to decipher that is irrelevant to me. One with a roar, one without a roar! Who cares! All I know is that there's wasn't a sinking lifeless dead Godzilla at the end of the movie to decisively claim Kong the winner in both versions! With that said, there was no decisive winner! IT WAS A DRAW! Show me the scene where Godzilla sinks to the bottom and is lifeless, and I could possibly accept Kong the victor. IT DIDN’T HAPPEN!
I like out the starts out, very intriguing
Awesome chapter! Excited to see the next one
Gigantis Actually, you are wrong. There are actually two endings to the '62 movie, with the American version having Kong as the winner, and the Original Japanese version having Godzilla win. Put two and two together, and you get a tie. Remember, Godzilla can swim, so did he really lose the fight when they fell into the sea at the end?
Considering the photo was mysteriously lost in the submission of this post, here it is.
Okay, let's try and get things back on track.
So to further expand on the "professional wrestling/boxing match" idea, I was thinking that the marketing and merchandise would be focused on picking which Titan you want to win.
They could actually divide the marketing campaign into 2 distinct halves: Team Godzilla, and Team Kong.
The draw of the film would, hopefully, be that audiences will latch onto the rivalry and go in to see which one will win, kinda like Civil War except with giant monsters.
he posted on my forum too
Goddammit, we got one here too!
I'm trying to make a serious thread about ways to improve the marketing and whatnot to help the next film's box office, and then this crap shows up >:(
I'm staying with my goddess Mothra
Nice job on the chart, especially on the artwork. Great work Noger Chen.
So awesome! this artwork really is amazing. Matt Frank your maybe one of the best Godzilla Artist I have seen so far.
I'm staying along with team Godzilla. To me, kong is just maybe another false king. But Godzilla is the true king of the monsters.#TeamGodzilla
@EmptyH
Oh, okay then.
Mine would possibly be the legendary Godzilla it would be because of the changes from its design to the roar. Now having a bulky armored body and the new spikey dorsal plates and finally the new awsome roar of the legendary Godzilla. But I also like the Heisei cause of the design with a large bulky body of the Heisei Godzilla. So yeah I like the Heisei and Legendary Godzilla.
What made me a Godzilla fan? well, I guess it would be the giant monster action. But really just think all the monster action and multiple Monsters around the world in deep slumber but when Godzilla king of the monsters had been realized in the cinemas. It's now on full out Monster action in with Mothra, King Ghidorah, Rodan and most of all our main monster Godzilla. And now most of all the main thing I really like about Godzilla is the size, looks, abilities, and most of all his role of being the king of the monster or maybe the god of the monsters while Mothra being the queen. And that what makes me a fan of Godzilla his iconic looks, size, abilities and his role of being the king of the monsters. And I would respect the Gman for that. And he will always be one of my heroes.
Ah, but he was marketable, and thus likely drew in people on that alone.
My own older sister initially only wanted to see the film for him, and that's terrible.
We need to have something like that for the next film, which is why I brought up the angle of playing up the characters of Godzilla and Kong to give them "actor cred", so to speak.
Slightly off topic, I didn't like anything Tom Hiddleston's character did in Skull Island. I honestly can't think of a reason that character should have been in the film. The bar fight scene was dumb and unnecessary and the smoke sword scene was dumb and unnecessary. I can't remember anything else he did.
That was a great chapter! Can't wait for the next one!
I've got a bit of an inquiry to ask here.
Do you guys know of anyone else besides Mike Dougherty that I could potentially bring these ideas to that could influence the marketing direction for the next Monsterverse film?
My idea for treating the marketing as "professional wrestling" was from some of the marketing for Latino countries for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. I REALLY liked that little bit of marketing from that region.
There was merchandise that depicted Godzilla and Ghidorah as rivals akin to wrestling, which I imagine was done to appeal to "luchador" and whatnot.
Plus, Godzilla and Kong have a film history as the first major rivals. Drawing upon that original film history to inform the advertising of this one would be a good idea, I think.
As for the actor cast, you do have a point. That's why I suggested also focusing on Godzilla and Kong as characters. If you treat them as high profile actors themselves, you could work in their film histories as "actor background", in a sense.
One of the things that worked well for Skull Island's marketing, which Godzilla vs. Kong doesn't have, is the cast. Putting two MCU faces (now days three) and John Goodman (coming off the success of 10 Cloverfield Lane the prior year) was a big draw. But I don't think this movie has the names for that kind of marketing.
I do like the boxing match push from an ad perspective--While I hate it when people only look at these films like boxing or wrestling matches, it admittedly may work to market the thing. At least it would be something WB hasn't tried before.
You wrote this... This is really good. Like how you made Zilla stronger
Pretty good, like how you made Zilla stronger in this.
Zilla is the ultimate troll
That's the spirit guys!
I like them all but I guess my favorite out of them all would be behemoth.
March is the perfect time for GvK and I think WB knows that. They have backpedaled on the delay innuendo and it seems to be progressing as planned. Time will tell
Well, it's already been confirmed that the film will still release domestically on March 13, 2020. The international market will be getting it earlier on March 11, 2020. Heck, early footage has already been shown off in Europe.
Besides which, the March release date is already one of the better ones to stick with considering all the competition coming later.
Sure, it's gotta deal with Onward 1 week earlier and Mulan 2 weeks later, but it's got an entire 2 week period as the only film of the action genre releasing during that time along with releasing on the Spring Break period. If the film were to be delayed, it'd have to be delayed to June or July in order to avoid releasing around gigantic competition like the current film did.
I would like to see a Monsterverse rendition to Battra
When I first learned English, I also found it difficult to write a complete sentence. fnaf
Doomsday was only a small factor in why BvS was a critical failure. There were many other bigger reasons. Doomsday could have worked but he wasn't executed well. If they don't make the same mistakes that film made, there shouldn't be a problem.
