I gotta say, I'm not exactly a proud person to begin with so this might be a moot point, but I'm not really "proud" to be a part of a group of fans. Though I must say that I enjoy it.
I thought it was established that he was around 120 - 150 meters high. He is lumbering down California St, between Kearny and Montgomery Sts. The cable cars run up and down here. So excited for this film!
GTBETTA, protecting something FROM humanity. Not protecting humanity itself, but something from humankind, possibly nature.
Godzilla goes green.
I don't think this movie will do anything for Godzilla in terms of anyone taking him seriously. Maybe a few people, but most people that have seen the trailer realise that this isn't going to be like the showa series (or old campy Godzilla) but even with the trailers out, we can still figure that people might be concerned that this movie will still end up with something like the 98 movie.
I really don't care if it does or not. I doubt this movie will make some people watch the original films differently, but who cares? I love Godzilla and I have a much broader, critical and historical understanding of the series than anyone who laughs at him. What matters is I (the royal I) like Godzilla and I take it seriously. Who cares if others don't.
Yes I love our fanbase too and I'm glad to be part of it.
@MICKING Yeah.......I think I'll stick to self-induced-nuclear-evolution over ridiculous periods of time due to revival after death by nuclear radiation that can't be done in normal biological circumstances and can withstand enormous weights of incomprehensible scale and produce such powerful exotic abilities. With that in mind, there's almost no limit to the size Godzilla, or any similarly-created Kaiju, could have. Of course, there always is a size stabilization point where a particular size fits "just right".
This movie will change the way America looks at Godzilla forever.
Godzilla may be protecting us from our own fates. Maybe there is a new type of fossil fuel or energy source that, if harnessed by humanity, would lead to the destruction of the earth.
Gigantis is the regenerated surviving cells of the 1954 original that was killed by the oxygen destroyer. No breeding necessary. If there ever was any breeding, it had to be in his non-mutated Godzillasaurus form with an, as yet never revealed, second Godzilasaurus before the Atomic tests. I have a (outside of the box) theory that may explain the paraphysics behind Godzilla's motives. GODZILLA is a GHOST! A poltergeist in fact. A primal spirit that has existed on the Earth since prehistoric times . It's mind is that of a dinosaur that is eternally going through the motions of being a dinosaur. Like the ghost of a soldier who constantly repeats his march across the field of battle upon which he had died. Godzilla's spirit, not knowing that he is already physically dead, believes he is still alive. An Earthbound Spirit trapped within his corporeal form in a flash of Thermonuclear fire! Dinosaurs were the absolute peak of evolutionary life forms on Earth. Their diversity filled every imaginable ecological nitch until, by whatever means, meteoric or otherwise, doomed them to extinction . When a spirit leaves the body, it is usually allowed to "step into the light" to merge with its spiritual source.(Heaven or God) The dinosaurs that were killed by the extinction event, died so quickly that they were deprived of their spiritual transition. Their spirits were thrust into a dinosaurian PURGATORY where the last living memory they had was a flash of bright light and a huge wave of heat, radiation and pain! The Godzillasaurus, one of the last remaining living true dinosaurs, was deprived of its "White Light Spiritual Transition Event." At the time of its death by the intervention of a thermonuclear event! Another event resulting in bright light, searing heat, radiation and pain. Godzillasaur's transition was split asunder and all the SPIRITUAL ENERGY of the Dinosaur PURGATORY poured out of the source and into the body of the irradiated dinosaur. Something along the lines of spiritual demonic possesion! It literaly became the living spirit of ALL the dinosaurs that had died from that explosive extinction event! That is why the mutated form assumed characteristics of of several different types of Dinosaurs. Mixing up T-rex with Stegasaur and Land-based and Aquatic. It's actions may even be influenced by possesion of HUMAN spirits that died in a similar instant and horrible manner. (Nagasaki and Hiroshima!) Perhaps explaining its affinity for Japan. The early speculation that it was a peculiar mix of bipedal carnasaur and armored stegosaur may have been close to right. It is an amalgam of ALL those dinosaurs and more! Its Bodyform is a mixed-up concensus of what all dinosaurs aspired to become. Bigger! Stronger! Impervious to all harm! Because the last, living memory of all those spirits was of light, heat, radiation and pain, they all chose a Bodyform that could not only be immune to these things, but be able to inflict them upon others, in self defense. Thus came into being the Physical form that we refer to as the Classic ORIGINAL Godzilla ! His body is held together, telekineticly, by the will and self-image of those spirits. That is why his body does not conform to, or have the weaknesses of biological entities. He is held together by his thoughts. He insists upon believing He is still alive.
I dont know man, I had the same thing happen when I watched The Hobbit. The trailer was over and i heard a few people laughing! I was like, WTF. This movie looks better than those BS super hero movies that are stale and boring. This Movie looks like it was a ton of potential, but I agree, I think people look back at the 98 film and the suit and not take it serious.
As true G fans, we just gotta convince people otherwise.
See, that's what I don't undstand. People will go see Transformers and go, "Oh man! That was the best movie ever! So believable!" -_- Seriously??? You'll believe a story about giant talking robots from another planet, but mock a giant reptile created by a nuclear weaponat is hell-bent on destroying his creators??? For the record I love Transformers, just talking aout general movie-goers.
there in lies the rub. That's why this movie may not be a big hit. People know Godzilla as a tail surfing karate lizard (older people). Or, they only know him from the 98' movie (younger people). When I told my family that they were remaking Godzilla, the first thing they asked was, "is he going to surf on his tail and kick buildings down?" that's what they remember about the old ones. the super-cheesyness of it all.
@BCROCKET Yeah lol cause I was about to say, Godzilla standing on a hill? Lol
Protecting something from humanity? I don't understand.
don't forget Gigan, the deadly cyber-chicken from space.http://pm619.deviantart.com/gallery/47813813
The doubt is strong in this one.
I'm Japanese but i can't find the differences between superhero movies and Godzilla movies. I know superhero movies have higher budgets but I think the reason why american people laugh at Godzilla is because Godzilla is made in Japan aka the weirdest country on earth. But yeah I hope they will take it more seriously.
Well, the problem is most people outside of the real Godzilla fans have grown up with the more camp tone of later films following the masterpiece of the original. Also, when people think suitmation, a lot of times they're turned off because "it's obviously fake" or "this makes things totallly unbelievable". Hopefully, we can stick it to general movie-goers that Godzilla is not a name to be mocked, but to be praised yet again in the same vein as the original.
That's my favourite song from A7X!
dont know what say about this other than lets just wait and see
Yeah, I'm on the "It's fake" bandwagon as well.
Here's mine:

This was made during the time when we only had that one picture of Godzilla's head that was purple..
this is fake totaly fake I'm going too wait until this is really comformed.
1. Godzilla is protecting something from humanity.
Yup... it's me, I'll just say that Godzilla is a very awesome bodyguard to say the least :P
I'm on the "it's fake" bandwagon as well, but still fun to discuss the possibilities.
bwahahah ok im glad you didnt make this an article, because unlike the real stuff before that had evidence and clips, this has nothing, and im not buying it at all. This is grade A fake.
Unless you're strong in the force, I'll remain skeptical of your "strong feeling".
If I remember though, Darabont was pretty much kept in the dark about story and plot. Again, if I am remembering correctly, they only brought Darabont to clean up the human interaction and dialogue.
I have a strong feeling it will be 1hr and 55 mins cuz thats what it use to say on the Encyclopedia a few monthes ago.
No, I apologize. I shouldn't be on forums when I'm running on three hours of sleep over the last five days. Words get jumbled and I might say something that doesn't make sense at all.
Interesting. Let me be the first to say "BS"... I would say it further, but I think my language may be a bit too extreme.
"So I was contacted today by someone who will (again) remain anonymous. This individual claims to have received information about the Godzilla (2014) plot from a friend, who apparently works extremely close to the film." really sounds like the "well a friend of mine knows this one guy".. and it really comes across as more of a "get out of jail free" card than sounding like a reason to be considered legit.
That being said, if we take the information at face value...
1. I thought that bit was obvious. I thought Gareth, Cranston, and pretty much everyone sort of said this in their own way over the past several months.
2. That was information provided in the Shocktillyoudrop interview with Gareth Edwards. He said that the atomic breath will be in the film, but he was going to put it in there in a way that didn't come across as super unbelievable.
3. Megalon? No way. Besides that hole looked like it might even be a bit tough for Serizawa to fit through. I'm 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% sure that there won't be any other Toho monsters in this movie. Maybe homage monsters at best.
I agree though, that if they did bring in another Toho monster, something like Megaguirus seems more "logical" than let's say King Ghidorah or Gigan.
this is amazing! but I think is fake. at least till an official confirmation.
Good find Josh! Those dates match up with what I was told. Feb 14th, 28th, here we come!
If it has to be an existing piece of music then I'd probably choose either Akira Ifukube's Godzilla theme, Michiru Oshima's or Reijiro Koroku's themes. Probably Koroku's themes from Godzilla 1984 . It looks like it would fit the new Godzilla best.
Rock/electronic/metal songs don't really work well with Godzilla and typically come off pretty corny when placed with images of him. I don't see that changing with the new movie.
Studios lie all the time. "Oh, we couldn't get the rights to this or that." Then 2 months later, there it is in the movie. Godzilla protecting something? Hmm...Odo Island...? That seems really unlikely, but you know. Old Toho monsters...now, are we talking existing or ones that were in the project bin that never got used?
