To those of you who say Pacific Rim's CGI looks better, I disagree.  Just because a film uses a lot of CG doesn't mean it's good.  Avatar proves this.  When I watch Godzilla commercials, I see the CG, but I gloss over it.  When I see Pacific Rim, all I see is CG.  Godzilla uses the CG so much more effectively and efficiently.

The difference between the teaser trailer on a laptop with nice speakers, a large HD TV with a nice sound system, and a Movie theater experience is extremely noticable.  It looks way better the bigger you go.

thats because they are hidden videos, youtube allows this option. you can hide videos from your channel and people can only get to the video if they actually get teh link, they cant search for it on youtube, they need the direct link to access

Just come up with your own theory to explain the preence. Simple. I've been doing that for every single iteration of giant monster I've seen, coming up with my own unique explanations for every little thing, even though I may not possess the scientific background to support these statements exactly. Besides, it's fun to do that! As for my input on the presence of gills at all:

The gills are a vestigial feature that evolved early on in his species, obviously for the purposes of breathing underwater, whilst still maintaining the ability to go about on land. However, as they grew from the excess of natural radiation, they would outgrow their normal organic needs like food, water, and oxygen due to the newly created nuclear organ system of the species.

Now, the gills only serve as a means to filter out specific gases in liquid environments for non-essential bodily processes, possibly including gases to be ionized by the core nuclear organ system for use as a projected stream of high-intensity plasma from the mouth. They may also act as thermal vents for said process.
