gman. well the onley version of gmk ive seen is the tristar dub. and I found it to be a not very good dub.

GMK was praised for the performances by Ryudo Uzaki (a Yokohoma Film Festval award winner), Shiro Sano (a revered Japanese cult actor) and Adayo Amamoto (who was a classically trained actor of the Golden Age of Japanese cinema.)

The day we stop calling ourselves Americans is the day the United States of America is dissolved. (i.e. I will become a full Texan) until that day comes, I am still an American, not mexican or canadian but american.... unless mexico or canada some how conquerors us.

GMK is my favorite Millenium film, it was on of the first Goji films I saw
Out of all the Millennium Godzilla films, 2000 and S.O.S were my favorites. I still have my Diorama statue of S.O.S in my attic.
And the old old DVD release of 2000 when the case was THICC. So to me S.O.S was special for that series of Godzilla Films.
I actually havent seen a single cloverfeild film, ill get on that.

some people can enjoy garbage as long as its entertaining! even if the actings bad if a film has a good story its still watchable. sure, acting is a big part of a movie bieng succeful, but its not illegal for someone to enjoy something that over people dont. a film being a hidden gem comes down to personel taste. and once you think about it, the kaiju gonre as a hole is garbage due to how stupid the idea is of a giant animal destroying a city is. but the reason that people praise the kaiju gonre is because of the amazing practical effects and, despite the gonres stupid premes, it can craft some beutiful storys. look at gmk for example, the acting in that film is garbage,but the reason that people love and praise the film is for 1:the amazing practical effects that still hold up today, and 2: the absolutly incredible story. so a kaiju film being good dosnt revolve around the acting, it revolves around if the film has a good story and good practical effects, and tokyo sos has all of that. so saying that the films garbage is really just not true.

Yes all the movies are worth watching, but my reccomendations in my opinion are the ones you should be required to watch.

Yeah. I really try not to. I watched one of Mechagodzilla fighting Godzilla. I really regret watching that.
I was probably 10 or 11 when I became a Godzilla fan. My dad took my brother and I to see Godzilla (2014) and I was blown away. I had never seen a Godzilla movie before and I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. So cool, that I had to check out the older movies to see what they were like. And here I am, in college, having seen every Godzilla movie and a lot of others as well (Gamera, King Kong, etc.).

Hello, I'm about to post something here which is a huge spoiler and probably gonna reveal a part from the movie. before I do, should I do it? cuz I don't want to cause trouble before I do it.
I liked Showa's reason for Mechagodzilla, but hated the design. I feel that Mechagodzilla should have been an alien design rather than a manmade one.
Didn't care for Heisei Mechagodzilla, I think the reason why the built it was partly from being inspired by Mecha-Ghidorah, its been six years since I last watched that movie so I could be wrong.
Kiryu has an awesome design but I find using the bones of a dead Godzilla to incorporate into your robot ridiculous, it would be like using a dead human skeleton to make a T-800 or the bones of a dead giant turtle for a car.

Also Japan wouldn't have gotten nuked if they didn't side with Hitler and attack pearl harbor.
Sorry I've only seen the movie only once and I was going off of memory but I agree with you all 36 movies and in counting should be watched as well as all the auxiliary movies.

King Ghidorah was not responsible for 1954, the original events from 1954 happened. King Ghidorah remained dormant until 1992 when the Futarians activated him.
The Godzillasaurus was mutated into the Heisei Godzilla in the 1970s by a sunk Russian sub. He then attacked in 1984 and in Godzilla vs. Biollante. He grew to 100m after he absorbed Shindo's sub's modern nuclear energy in 1992.
In any case, my recommendation is all 36 movies. Watch them. Enjoy them. Learn about them. Understand why and how they were made. Soak in the entire history.
And that's the kicker. What is the justification going to be for building a mechanical Godzilla in GvK?
Showa MechaGodzilla and Kiryu had solid enough reasons. The Heisei MechaGodzilla was pointless. I'm curious where they're going with this.

It's been readily available on DVD from Sony since 2004 and they released a Blu-ray double feature of it with Godzilla: Final Wars in 2014. It's one of the more easily attainable Godzilla films in the west and Sony won't lose the license to it until 2023 at the very earliest.
I reviewed the film years ago for this site. I don't think it's exactly a great movie, but I do applaud it for being Tezuka's most mature effort yet. My review is on Substack:
