Looking at the toys, pictures, and in-game items, I still see gills.

Check this sucker out. This is one of the oldest species on the planet. It was recently re-discovered after being thought to be dead for millions of years. Notice it's very distinct gills and the sharp ridges. They're remarkably similar to the flaps on the sides of Godzilla's neck.

So I watched the trailer again and realized that there are in fact, two MUTO's along with Godzilla.  Go back and watch the part where it shows the screens (muto1 and muto2) and look at the screens below them.  One shows the spider-like one we've seen before, and the other one shows something taking off with wings (like bat wings).  This is exciting!

Yes we're is this interview and if you inspect themclosely in the trailers they look like flaps of skin or thick hide and the things on the front of his neck are scales and actually the audience would figure that the way he breaths under water is that he just breaths normaly :)

I am agree with Duratok. I remember that Gareth Edwards stated that to create his new monster had watched others evenfrom  B movies (for my opinion the original Tremors does not fall in this category, it was very well done for its time and it is one of my favs too), and doing so he created and amalgam. FOr me the similiraties in the physical look are with Cloverfield (pretty obvious), Graboids, Legion soldiers (Gamera), and the bugs from Starship troopers (whose have similairities with Legion soldiers and Mother Legion herself too).

I'm super excited for this movie, I've never really seen any other Godzilla movies besides the 1998 one (so you can assume what my first impression of anything Godzilla was for a while) but after I saw the first trailer for this movie, everything changed.  This trailer was incredible!  As for the screens saying Muto1 & Muto2, I just assumed it was Godzilla and the other MUTO rather than two MUTO's and Godzilla.  I'm not 100% sure though, if there's two MUTO's in this movie I'm gonna die!  It'll be fantastic!

true the original gojira never had gills but when talking realism in a movie the producers have to make it seem as real as possible that is why they gave him gills so that the audience can identify with how he can breath under the water :)

I don't ever remember Gareth Edwards saying Godzilla has gills. And I've been following this movie since from the very first promotional artwork and the day it was annouced.

I have no problems with Godzilla having gills.  As Bigbadben, Kaiju1954, and many others have stated, it's a more biologically plausible anatomical feature considering where he is 99% of the time.  Citing this so-called "muscle diagram," which was something created by a DA artist and NOT someone involved with the actual design at WETA and Legendary, as gospel that has irrevokable consequences to the design of the creature in the film is taking things too far.  I think getting a kinked colon over this is a big waste of time and energy.  It's like arguing over what happens on what deck based on some fan drawing of the USS Enterprise.

The original Godzilla didn't have gills his lungsahead the capacity of no humans that's how he breaths under water and adagio doesn't know what they are either no body does

the gills are no longer speculation gareth edwards himself has confirmed that they are indeed gills :)

Also, the gills are just speculation. Why does this particular subject upset you so much? Do you irrationally hate any speculation about this movie, or is it just with the gills?

consideirng in most movies Godzilla is in the ocean/ ocean floor. It would only make sense for him to have gills or at least have some way to stay under water for a really, really long time....I think it only adds to the overall design and "realness" of the new Godzilla.

yeah man that is when i saw 3 of these new trailers that were released and man my nephew and i were really happy to have seen them, the ones i recall seeing were the "courage" the "it cant be stopped" and the "i cant believe" still though this is really good hopefully alot of people saw these and were saying good things about them and take it into consederation on going to see this movie :)

no offense to anyone here you guys really need to relax a little bit i mean april really has just started and when it comes down to being only 1 day left i really dont see how many of you will react, i do know that this site will be going crazy hahaha. So relax and sit back and enjoy this ride that still remains :)

yep this is really good now people without computers have finally seen what is to come :)

My sister was able to point out one of the TV spots to friends she was hanging out with who had only been tangentially aware of the new Godzilla movie beforehand.  Certainly seems like the advertising is finally picking up.

I highly doubt it would be footage from his past, considering in that clip, you can see broken buildings and power lines. But I think that this might be Godzilla's "ancient foe" and be the big daddy monster boss at the end. the muto i think, are man made. the reason i say this is because the mutos look too modern to me. like they don't look like they'd be from the same time period as Godzilla.

those are gills on his neck they made godzilla realistic and to understand how godzilla can breathe under the water you give him gills.
