my problem with the ¨new¨ godzilla fans.

so, with the monsterverse came new interest in godzilla and kaiju media as a whole. some may see this as a good thing and it is...

exept for the new godzilla fans the monsterverse is bringing in.

you see, these fans are only accustomed to the monster-brawling of the monsterverse and thats all they care about!

they have forgotten what godzila stands for, a symbol of the devastation nuclear power can bring.

they are led by idiotic people on youtube with no real jobs screaming every 5 seconds and asking for ¨likes and subscribes¨

some of them are toxic, always saying how ¨oh king ghidorah is the strongest alien that godzilla ever fought¨ and when you object they break out into swearing tantrums,

and they know NOTHING about the history of the franchise. if you ask a ¨new godzilla fan what godzilla movie came out in 1985, they wouldn't be able to answer!

so I hope  that the monsterverse or future american godzilla media gets te monster right and gives him the nuclear danger metaphor again so we dont end up with these kinds of fans again.

and to any of those godzilla fans brought on with the monsterverse, PLEASE watch the older movies so that you can understand what godzilla really stands for! (but you may be to busy on your stupid little phones to even care)

Wow, fortunately my first Godzilla movie was Godzilla vs The Astro Monster... technically my first piece of Godzilla media was Godzilla Pour Hour but I fully agree with your point. The classic Godzilla movies must be watched first to understand the character. I feel that Hollywood is too busy being afraid of offending certain groups of people.

Well, I do get the devastation messages.  I need to watch 1954 and maybe Shin, since those are where it's supposedly displayed the most.

But the fans are really toxic, and the studio giving in the toxicity doesn't help things.

I'm with G.H. (Gman), you kind of have to watch all of the godzilla movies to fully appreciate the characters, not just for Godzilla himself but for Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah as well.

I know its a Herculean task but ya just got to do it, ya know

Idrc anymore. Im one of them.

Plus tbh most of the older fans probably liked the showa era, not bc of the "Themes" its fun to watch rubber monsters fight.

People like things for different reasons, I used to try to act older and gatekeep basically fans the same age as me to be mature.

I mean sure themes and writing are nice, but theres a reason GvK brought in many new fans. Monke v Lizard

Its not the end of the world.

Also hesei age people, if you try to claim that you appriciated the dark tone of that era when you were like six, i mean i cant stop you, but its kind of weird.

Not to mention the people that are not fans at all, It is not a problem but all they do is introduce websites and products. That wasn't that bad though, at least they weren't the ones that are rude.

Those are not people, those are bots that are given keywords that they automatically use and fill in.

Swearing tantrums is pretty par the course per the internet. People swear.

Well I like Showa, Heisei, Tristar was enjoyable while it lasted, and I desperately need to watch the Millennium era films. Monsterverse was also entertaining too, I haven't gotten into any of the Reiwa stuff yet

Imagine highlighting these problems a year ago only to be lambasted and now everyone is on the same page.

Even then though, I'm less concerned about people liking what they like (if you're just a Monsterverse fan, then okay) and more concerned about the blatant disrespect and erasure for why some of these newer flicks exist at all. There's a mindset that people consider the first 32 or so films as "practice" (literally what someone once said) and the real series hasn't started until recently.

Let's forget I've found the last two Monsterverse disasters insufferable to sit through. There seems to be a prevailing idea that it's the series proper over anything else and that is unfortunate given the amount of diversity, experimentation and width that the series has pushed before 2014. Especially since the newer flicks are as bland as most MCU and Hollywood tent poles released lately.

I'm just glad Godzilla Day doesn't really push anything Monsterverse or Tristar related, so I don't have to endure it on his birthday.

And yeah, a part of me did just post this because monsterzero9 feels his topic is being buried and it's honestly one of the braver discussions he's tossed in the ring.

Huh, usually I found Toho Godzilla fans were the elitists, I have yet to find a Monsterverse elitist.

those are fair points, but to be honest, I think that’s a much smaller group of people than it seems.

There are plenty of new projects and new fans who still respect the older films as valid godzilla content, (think the many Godzilla games that people make on roblox) I just worry that

We are conflating the issue, instead of seeing it as it is which is usually A minority.

Im also probably Out of touch bc usually Idc what other fans do.

And I apologize for burying topics. I defenitely have been doing so

Sorry if i crossed any lines here, I grew up watching Godzilla Power Hour, Godzilla vs The Astro Monster aka Godzilla vs Monster Zero, and Godzilla 1998. I was a huge fan of 98 since Zilla looked closer to a Jurassic Park dinosaur. I was attacked for liking Godzilla 1998 back then.

The point is, Toho Godzilla fans had that gatekeeper stick long before the Monsterverse ever had one, so If there are any Monsterverse gatekeepers out there, I say its karma.

Well toho goji fans have been around longer, so gatekeepers have beeen around longer bc toho was before MV.

Im not sure thats a fair argument

Of course, but Toho fans shouldn't be crying saying that the Monsterverse fanbase are terrible because they also have gatekeeper beliefs.

Me I like both Toho and Monsterverse, hell I even liked Tristar's Godzilla when I was a kid.

monsterzero9 Is there something wrong with him? Is it because of his reply? :o OK never mind I saw the topics, I get why you hate him this much. I am also like this when I was new so maybe try talking with him first.

You make a good point, but even though some DO like the action and the fighting and the despair. I’m sure not all of them have forgotten. I myself have not forgotten what godzilla symbolizes and why it was created, and that is one of the main reasons that I became a godzilla fan in the first place.

Sure, seeing all of the fighting and action can be fun and exciting to see, to a lot of viewers, but a lot of them see it because of what he represents, and how he has changed a lot of lives and how he is an advocate for what the horror people saw in the bombing when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed.

I will watch all of the Godzilla movies at some point.  I just haven't had the time and unfortunately my views of the MonsterVerse are getting progressively worse, so I'll be glad to finally break away from the MV when I do.

I just have to watch godzilla the series, godzilla vs biollante, king kong vs. godzilla and godzilla 1984.

I have a godzilla vs. biollante dvd coming in the mail but I have no idea how Im going to be able to afford a godzilla 1984 dvd or blu-ray.

I post updates on my twitter, I talk about new godzilla stuff coming out... you could like, follow it.... I post every day, but if you dont follow I wont really care. but if you do you would be pretty cool in my book!
