The new era?

MemberTitanosaurusJun-01-2019 8:35 AMIts been a while since I have posted anything on here, but a bit after the I watched KOTM I had this thought in my mind. What is the new era called? We currently all know that we have the Showa, Heisei and Millennium era, but what is the name for the current era (2014 - ...)?
After some brainstorming, I tried to come up with a few possible names for the current era if a name doesn't exist yet.
The Reiwa era: Just like the Showa and Heisei eras, the Reiwa era is named after Naruhito, current Emporer of Japan. This doesn't really work though seeing as Nahurito has been emperor for barely a few months compared to Godzilla who has returned to the big screen for 5 years now. I think this name will work better ones the new Toho cinematic universe movies start to come out.
The resurgence era: This is probably my favorite name thus far. I think it sums up what has happened to the kaiju genre in general over the last decade. You could say that this has happened multiple times throughout the Godzilla series (especially after 1998), but definitely not at the worldwide level, we are going through right now. It's also a need reference to shin Godzilla.
The Titans era: This is, of course, a reference to the Monsterverse specifically and doesn't really work for the Netflix movies and shin Godzilla, but I just wanted a name that would sound better than something like "the Monsterverse era" and I think that this could be a cool alternative name.
The legendary era: Ones again, this is a reference to the Monsterverse, but I think this name could still work for the other movies outside of the Monsterverse (though calling the Netflix movies legendary could be considered a bit controversial).
The foreign era: I think this name is a bit too basic, but it does fit with the current state of the kaiju genre. With it spreading around the world and multiple American kaiju movies being either released or under production, I think the name does the job well enough.
Those were the names I could come up with for now. I am still not sure if there already is an existing name for the current era, but if there isn't one and you guys have any other ideas for a name for the current era, please let me know in the comments.

MemberTitanosaurusJun-01-2019 8:58 AMYeah, I am pretty sure that both Shin Godzilla and the Netflix movies don't really fit with that name. I am talking about all the movies from the last 5 years and beyond and not just the American Monsterverse movies.

But I think the Legendary movies are separate from Shin and the Animes, even though they are contemporary. Just like I wouldn't classify 98 Godzilla as Heisei or Millenium. If there had been American Godzilla movies during the showa era, they wouldn't really be part of it. I prefer to think of them as continuities, rather than eras. IDK, but that's kind of a solution.

MemberTitanosaurusJun-01-2019 10:51 AMYeah, that does make sense. You can't really name something when you don't know when it will end. The Showa series was 20 years long whilst the Millenium era only had 5 years.
Also making the Monsterverse its own era does make sense especially ones the Toho cinematic universe gets started (hopefully alongside the Monsterverse).

MemberRodanJun-01-2019 3:56 PMThe Green Era? The titans are kinda going green..... The Balanced Era? The Unity Era or The Connected Era (because Godzilla V Kong)? The Good American Godzilla Movies Era?
If people weren't lazy, we wouldn't try to be efficient. If we weren't efficient, we'd never get anything done.

AdminGodzillaJun-01-2019 6:58 PMThe Monsterverse and the anime trilogy are both made by separate production companies. (Legendary and Polygon) As such it doesn't seem like Toho considers them part of the main series proper.
Many want to call movies starting with Shin Godzilla the "Reiwa Series" since that's the new era in Japan after Emperor Akihito's elder son, Naruhito, ascended the throne this past May. Ultimately I think this will be a retroactive decision made much further in the future. At the moment I'm completely content with putting the Monsterverse movies, anime trilogy and Shin Godzilla under the "Post-Millennium" umbrella.
