Debate Week Season 8 Day 5: Showa Godzilla vs Final Wars Gigan

The longest running series on Scified is back, with a unique bout tonight. Bring out the combatants.

The first recurring incarnation of Godzilla and perhaps the most well-known outside of the Heisei. The Showa Godzilla was the first to battle nearly all of Godzilla's iconic enemies, and did it with style. From his iconic dropkick on Megalon, to flying via his atomic breath--we all know and love this Godzilla. From his first ever atomic beam, the white Incandescent Light, which was capable of eclipsing Anguirus and starting raging fires--to the first use of his iconic Atomic Breath, which could decimate military vessels and deal severe damage to all his foes--he was the first to truly usher in the traits of the King we all know today. His beam reach heats at and exceeding 100,000 degrees Celsius. He has displayed extreme forms of magnetism against his nemesis Mechagodzilla, an ability other forms of the King do not share--and that he got presumably from being pummeled with lightning. His scales have only been penetrated by his toughest foes like Mechagodzilla, and his durability is surprisingly astounding--as he can handle the force of a nuke and all military weaponry. He has tossed with raw strength the likes of King Ghidorah, ripped apart skyscrapers and lifted weights far and away exceeding 2,000 tons. Via his atomic breath, he can take flight at speeds reaching Mach 1--which is remarkable when you really think about it. Proficient somehow in various forms of martial arts attacks and tosses, his Megaton Punch his lethal. This Godzilla is no joke, and set the precedent for his future incarnations forever.

Description:

The revamped and more heavily weaponized Gigan is a sight to behold--and a terror to combat. Capable of flight at Mach 400 in the depths of Space and Mach 3 on Earth, Gigan's aerial capabilities are large. His trademark scythes, the Bloody Triggers, are now bolstered by underside grappling hooks, which he uses to entangle his foes and guide them straight to his central buzzsaw--a sad end. On his rebirth in Final Wars, his scythes are eschewed for chainsaws--eccentric yes--that were capable of cutting off one of Mothra's wings and dealing significant damage to perhaps the most powerful incarnation of Godzilla. His buzzsaw, the Bladed Cutter, is a favorite of his for slam tactics--wherein he glides towards an opponent and rams them with the daggers. He was inevitably felled in Final Wars, although not after putting up a fight. He also boasts, specifically in Final Wars, a large beam known as the Gigarium Cluster; shot from his eyes, it explodes and spreads out like a cluster bomb--causing expansive and spread out damage. He is capable of launching guided boomeranging razor discs from slots on his torso. Although useful, perhaps they proved to be a bit too much of an upgrade, as he decapitated himself with them by accident--paving the way for an ownage from Mothra.
