They Weren't Fans: Godzilla Directors

AdminGodzillaJun-14-2017 3:57 PMAn acquaintance of mine at Toho Kingdom, Patrick Galvan, wrote a really excellent article on Godzilla directors who weren't big fans or self-depreciating (in Jun Fukuda's case). In a time where everyone is hopes a selected director is a "fan" of any given material, especially after the damage Emmerich and Devlin inflicted in 1998, it's a nice change of pace to have Patrick write this excellent piece. Worth your time:
They Weren’t Fans: Godzilla Directors

AdminGodzillaJun-15-2017 10:44 AMMileage may vary, but as far as director-fans who have made subpar or outright terrible movies of franchises they love:
Peter Jackson - King Kong '05, The Hobbit
David Goyer - Blade: Trinity
Masaaki Tezuka - Godzilla x Megaguirus
Zack Snyder - DCEU
Paul W.S. Anderson - Alien vs. Predator
M. Night Shyamalan - Avatar: The Last Airbender
Bryan Singer - Superman Returns

MemberBaragonJun-15-2017 10:54 AMOh god if we're throwing western directors into it the list gets too big, especially since now it seems a lot of them that get attached to franchises just say they love them or were always fans.
