Godzilla Movie Tournament: Post-Game Discussion/Comparisons

Most interesting thing for me is Gojira's results. Since they both ran the same bracket until the quarters it's easiest to compare. The original cleaned up on scified and twitter winning pretty convincingly in all but one match. Monster Zero however had it run pretty close winning by just 1-2 votes until taken out by Mothra vs Godzilla by almost twice the votes. Interesting to say Mothra vs Godzilla didn't end up winning either. I don't know if that says there's more respect of the movies it went against, or if the general opinion of the original isn't as high. 

Probably a bit of both, and seems like a heavy favor of Ghidorah over at monster zero, since it pretty much killed all it's competition in a similar fashion to Gojia on scified, but I think it had an easier bracket so that's probably not as impressive outside the semis and up.

I know Monster Zero has nothing but love for the '54 film, but the fans there also seem to have greater reverence for other movies than some others. One member who wasn't even pulling for Ghidorah felt assured that it was just as good as Godzilla '54 and Mothra vs. Godzilla.

Regardless of the winner, another fan pointed out that between the two tournaments the top Godzilla movies are more or less agreed upon:

"Taken as a whole between the two boards, we could say that these are the top six Godzilla movies as we voted them...

Mothra vs. Godzilla
Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Godzilla vs. Biollante
Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

Outside of Monster Zero's omission, this list more or less makes sense as I've often considered these movies to, objectively, be the top in the franchise. If I were to make a top 10 list, these movies, plus Monster Zero, would undoubtedly be in it. Nice to know there's some minor data that agrees with me.

I always enjoyed reading these tournaments, I hope you do host another GMan. Perhaps incorporating other Kaiju films to the mix? Though, do you think any would / could match up or even outrank the '54 Gojira?

I said from the beginning that if I do another it will omit the winner. So if/when another comes, it will be without Godzilla '54 and most assuredly include films outside of the Godzilla series.
