MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2015 9:43 PMWhoa, calm down with the caps.
It it likely that we will not be getting a US theatrical release. However, on the small chance that we do, the film will probably be availiable for viewing for a limited time in select theaters like Godzilla 2000. I know I'm just going to watch it online, I probably won't have the time to watch it in theaters if it happens, and my parents certainly won't let me get the DVD.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2015 9:53 PMAgh, it won't let me edit my bloody post.
I just realized that the possibility of getting an American theatrical release is much smaller due to the fact that people might get the 2016 film confused with the 2014 Godzilla. It already happened with 2000, since us silly Americans thought that movie was a direct sequel to the 1998 Godzilla, resulting in many confuzzles. It was sadly a box office flop here in the States. So more likely than not, no theatrical release. :/

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2015 10:19 PMI wasn't referring to Godzilla fans when I said people could mistake 2016 for a sequel; I meant the general public. Gareth said that he made his movie for basically everybody, and not just people that liked Godzilla. So if the movie were to be distributed towards America, non-Godzilla fans would most likely not know it's a Japanese Godzilla film in a seperate continuity and therefore lower expectations for the actual sequel to 2014. And neither Legendary or Toho would want that.

AdminGodzillaSep-10-2015 12:23 AMIf Godzilla 2016 gets a theatrical release in the states it's likely to be a limited run on an even smaller scale than Godzilla 2000. I'm thinking closer to Attack on Titan, which will only be showing three days in theaters.
Or it could have "touring" at select/art house theaters like Godzilla '54 did last year and in 2004. Limited releases like this could potentially maximize's the film's profit for the distributor while also minimizing any confusion general audiences might have with this being a sequel to the 2014 movie.
As for when this could happen? Who knows. The movie isn't made yet and so far it doesn't have a U.S. distributor, so there's really nothing to work with as far as a time table goes.
Battra,
If this does happens I don't see how one could make the time or why you couldn't buy the DVD yourself. Are your parents anti-things-you-enjoy?
And for the record, Sony did claim they turned a small profit with Godzilla 2000. Nothing huge, but considering the size of the release and how little money they had to put behind it, it can't necessarily be considered a flop for Sony.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-10-2015 6:26 AMGman2887, I did not know that Sony spent so little money having Godzilla 2000 play in the States. Must've been a small amount if it returned a profit for them.
And yeah, my parents don't really like Godzilla all that much. It really sucks.

AdminGodzillaSep-10-2015 8:22 AMNeither did mine when I lived with my parents, but to not allow what their kid enjoys so much seems harsh. How awful. The majority of my collection were birthday/Christmas gifts from my parents regardless of how the feel about it-- Still are when I go to visit.
