Well, its that time of year again… award season! While mainstream film buffs and the Hollywood elites all gathered to honor the most expensive and popular films of the year a few weeks ago, for us movie fans with a more, err… refined taste, the awards are just beginning.
Voting on the 13th Rondo Hatton Awards has begun!!!! For those unaware, the awards, named after B-movie legend Rondo Hatton (known as the “Monster Without Makeup” due to a deformity that affected his facial glands and distended his facial features, and star of House of Horrors and its prequel The Brute Man, among other films), celebrate the latest and most excellent additions to the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres. Everything from movies and books, to podcasts, conventions, and even toys are chosen as nominees, and we, the people, get to vote on what exemplified the genres we love in the last year! In the sci fi/fantasy/horror community, the Rondo Awards are a big deal, and getting one is an honor.
This year, thanks to the influx of kaiju stuff from 2014’s increased awareness of the genre, the nominees include a metric BUTTLOAD of giant monster projects for YOU to choose from! These include Godzilla (2014) for Best Picture, the Ifukube 100 concert for Best Fan Event, and the Kaijucast for Best Multimedia!
