MemberMothra LarvaeAug-02-2014 1:05 PMI took the liberty of taking a stopwatch to the Godzilla movie while it was in theaters and was brilliant enough to forget that I had done so until recently. I remember that I stopped the watched whenever Godzilla was not directly on screen, so during scenes where he was present but not actually in front of my eyes, I stopped the watch which is why the time is so short.
Are you ready?
10:28 +/- 3 seconds.
There you have it!
Godzilla's total time on screen, for better or worse, is only 10:30 give or take two to three seconds. Again, I stopped the watch whenever he was not directly on the screen. During scenes where you know he's there such as the final fight where the camera cut away, I stopped the watch.
So what do you think? Out of 123 minutes, Godzilla's on screen for only ten and a half of them.
Personally, I'm not disappointed, but I do kind of wish that it had been extended just a smidge. However, I'm certain they'll rectify this in the next film given how many new Toho monsters will make an appearance. If he's fighting all of them (or even just two), he'll be on screen for quite a while now that the big reveal and all the damn teasing is done.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-02-2014 2:19 PMJust going to point out that there still might be a bit of teasing. Like when King Ghidorah, Rodan, or Mothra show up. It's most likely they'll tease the first arrival and not show much of them. It might even be awhile before we see their head and everything and get a clear view.
Anyway, I hope this ends the screen time topic. I've heard way too much about it way too many times.
In my opinion, that's fine. Could have been a bit longer, and I agree that it would have been really nice to see a first fight before the final one. But all in all, I'm okay with Godzilla's screen time.

MemberAnguirusAug-02-2014 2:47 PMThey say Jaws screentime was similar to Godzillas, which means Godzilla didnt do that bad. Im pretty sure there were similar doubts at the time with Jaws screentime. Anyway this topic has been posted enough and we all know Godzillas screentime.
