I’m sure that most of you out there are familiar with Godzilla super fan Kyle Yount’s amazing podcast, the Kaijucast (and if you’re not, go listen to an episode… right now… seriously, right now! I’ll wait………… there, now you understand the awesomeness!)! Anyway, Kyle is a great guy and puts on an incredible show, and he has recently announced an ambitious but TOTALLY ACHIEVABLE new project, one that can only happen with your help!
Coming up soon in Japan will be the massive Big Godzilla Special Effects Exhibition, a two week show featuring original props from 60 years’ worth of Godzilla films, along with original suits, production artwork, and appearances from a number of the men and women who have helped bring Godzilla’s world to life, including actors and actresses, special effects technicians, and directors. This event will be THE event to be at for celebrating Godzilla’s 60th Anniversary, but for us fans in the U.S., it’s unlikely we will ever get to witness such an event… and that’s where Kyle comes into play!
Kyle has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund an independent DOCUMENTARY entitled Hail to the King: 60 Years of Destruction. Kyle intends to fly to Japan, meet up with the crew behind the incredible Sci Fi Japan TV series, and shoot a feature length film documenting this exhibition for the benefit of western fans! The documentary will feature footage of the exhibition and interviews with as many guests as Kyle can get time with! The finished film, planned to be released on November 3rd (get it? :D), will be free to view on YouTube, as well as, if their goals are met, select digital platforms. Nothing like this has ever been attempted before, and it can’t happen, if you’ll pardon the cliché, without YOUR help!
Kyle and his top notch crew are only asking for the modest sum of $8000 in order to make this documentary a reality. It may sound like a lot of money, but to fly to Japan and stay for an extended period, as well as film a feature length documentary in full HD, its not a lot. That said, this goal is totally achievable, and as of July 20th, with 15 days to go, they are already at nearly $4500!
Check out the Kickstarter page to read the full project synopsis, check out the incredible prizes you will get for donating, and read about Kyle’s stretch goals for if/when they exceed their set goal:

Much like the recent Ifukube concert (which was amazing beyond words), this opportunity to celebrate Godzilla is not only achievable, but VERY worth it to donate to! I encourage everyone reading to donate whatever they can, if they are able to!
Thanks for reading! So, what do you think? Will you donate? Is anyone actually planning to go to Japan to see this exhibition in person? Let’s hear your thoughts!

That's why the documentary is called Hail to the King: 60 Years of Destruction. Godzilla's name is nowhere to be seen, which should help keep it under the radar from those overly sensitive jerkwads at Toho. Plus, Kyle is not looking to make any money on this; it will be free to watch for everyone, so he's not illegally making money off of Godzilla's name. Toho won't realy have a case (although I'm sure they could find something to complain about).
