True American Godzilla
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 4:53 PMI've recently watched the GMK Godzilla movie (naturally in English) and enjoyed it. To me it's much better than Final Wars. The movie could have been longer to allow more time to get introduced to the characters and mythology and care for them... but overall was good.
The thing that really impressed me about the GMK Gojira the most was just how POWERFUL this ATOMIC RAY was! For one thing it has an extremely long range as shown in various occasions...
...but the most impressive moment was in the first shot of it being used, where as soon as it hit GMK Gojira's target it did this (below)...
This is how the Atomic Ray/Breath SHOULD BE LIKE! Think about it, Gojira is supposed to be a physical representation nuclear bombs/atom bombs and the fear/danger in using them. However, when just about all Gojira/Godzilla use their breath weapon, it can merly push an enemy around (and singe them in the process)...
...or be explosive but not nearly to the same degree as actually making a mushroom cloud, thus being extremely devestating...
So Final Wars Gojira had an explosive Atomic Breath, but explosives that are truly destructive like the Atom Bomb have that well known mushroom cloud. Legendary Gojira had a more pushing Atomic Breath (thanks to the MUTO shell armor, they were only pushed) and high heat.
Both are nice, but to me a true breath weapon that's just as dangerous as the man-made nuclear bomb is the one GMK Gojira had.
Sure, the down side with GMK Gojira's Atomic Ray is that long re-charge. However this is realistic if you think about it. The more powerful the weapon, the longer the recharge has to be to even things out. Medium strengthed weapons can be fired more rapidly than the 'big guns' but don't do as much damage. Small guns are the quckest but are very weak.
If only Legendary Pictures had done the GMK Gojira style Atomic Ray, then I'd say he had the best Atomic Breath representation around.

MemberGiganJul-17-2014 5:35 PMAhem. We dont know how powerful g 2014s atomic breath truly is! According to the theory of the electrical sack, Godzilla 2014's atomic breath was weakend due to his electrical sack short circuiting from the Mutos emp. For all we know Godzilla 2014s atomic breath could be the strongest of them all! Also Legendary has made a incredibly powerful Godzilla the most realisitc! And having a breath that causes a atomic explosion is very unrealisitc and fan-made. Gmk was a very fun and epic film. But on alot of cases is was very unrealistic, Him randomly absorbing Ghidorahs beam and creating a special beam? How did that happen? Also Gmk's breath wasnt that powerful! It was more destruction oriented, it wasnt real power like Fw Godzilla. Fw Godzilla could easily explode Gmk with his Atomic breath due to it being hotter than the corona around the sun.
Good grief.

"Realistic" does not equal "better".

MemberBaragonJul-17-2014 7:06 PMHow is he the most realistic actually? What about him puts him above, say the first incarnation? They're both giant monsters that lived a long time ago that get awakened due to the nuclear age. Their backstories are almost the same with the difference being the 2014 is much bigger and has gills. And how do you know Final Wars breath is hotter than the corona around the sun?
I think it's widely recognized for the most part that Godzilla2014 has an extremely weak atomic breath in comparison to the past incarnations, but I'm not quite sure about GMK's breath after the initial shot, while still being powerful there was never another moment where it showed the ability to make a mushroom cloud. Actually if I remember correctly he had to keep the beam on Baragon for a second or two before he blew up, whereas with Final wars things like Zilla and Gigan got dropped immediately by that atomic breath.

MemberGiganJul-17-2014 7:46 PMGman and durpoo- It was in response to him saying that thats how they should have made Godzilla 2014s atomic breath. And why are you guys always the ones who critisize Godzilla 2014 the most? Also in the movie skip to part with the general and the Gotengo he says G FW is hotter than the Corona around the sun! How do we know how weak it is? It sure was strong enough to destroy the nternal organs and blast off a the neck of a very intensely powerful animal. Durpoo i have a feeling you should watch Godzilla 2014 again, Your a little rusty on your detailings. Godzilla 2014 is by far the most realisitic with a real explanation for why he exisited instead of just, A mutated lizard awoken by the Atomic bomb. And Godzilla 2014 wasnt awoken by the Atomic age but by the Mutos. Gman i never said he was better i just said he was the most realisitc of the Original Godzillas. You guys tell me you cant imagine Godzilal 2014 coming out from the sea with the explanation they gave.
Good grief.

I honestly can't. Godzilla '14's origin is just as asinine as Godzilla '54's. In fact his origins in the movie are even more vague.
At what point does any character say Godzilla's ray is hotter than the sun in Final Wars? Is this in the dubbed version? I've never watched the movie in english. (Save for Capt. Gordon of course.)

MemberBaragonJul-18-2014 1:23 AMThey never say FW is hotter than the sun I've watched it in both english sub and dub and never remember them referring to Godzilla's breath as equal to the sun but hey maybe I just don't recall it luckily I have the dvd so if you can give me a rough time of the movie I'll check it myself and see if the dub says that as I'm almost certain the sub does not.
Actually I think you need to rewatch it because Serizawa clearly says that in the 50s the first nuclear sub is lost after reaching a certain depths, he then follows up with the line from the trailer, "we awakened something". Godzilla 2014s explanation is that he existed in a time when radiation was more prevalent. That's it; no difference in realism to something that's been asleep ever since prehistoric times. So yes I can imagine him arising from the sea the same way I can imagine a giant ape being alive on a secret island we've never found or an Atlantean made turtle sealed away on in an island.
I don't criticize Godzilla the most I just disagree with a lot of the things that you say as you attempt to preach the glories of the movie and the monster as though they are the best the series has to offer. I'd point out the flaws in any Godzilla movies if someone was constantly bringing up it's greatness even Godzilla vs Destroyah which is my personal favorite, here it has too many characters and because of that each isn't explored to the point they could have been. There are other things too. The only reason you realize I do it to the 2014 one is because it's your favorite. If someone ever kept trying to talk about how great Hedorah the smog monster was I'd really rip into them, as that one is, in my opinion, the worst of the series.

MemberTitanosaurusJul-18-2014 4:43 AMWell, this Godzilla's atomic breath isn't a radiation stream like before. It's a plasma breath. PLASMA. You know, the 4th state of matter and all, pure energy. Plus, the MUTOs EMP attacks DID impair its usage, since they were evolved specifically to counter Godzilla igniting the electricity inside his body to super-ionize gases into that plasma, which BTW is the only weapon capable of permanently killing MUTO cells' regenrative properties.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-18-2014 3:48 PMThis is exactly what I said, GMK Godzilla's atomic breath represents more of what Godzilla's atomic breath is suppose to be like, that new one, I don't really like talking about it, the new one is more like a stupid dragon breath, totally not Godzilla and atomic-like in my opinion, even blue smoke matches better for Godzilla.
And you up there saying that Godzilla 2014 is more realistic yes you basically were saying it in a way that its better, and no I disagree, I wouldnt mind a realistic godzilla movie with an atomic breath beam that causes high and large explosions, that seems more realistic and sensable than a fire breath that we all now got, like idk how that's suppose to represent Godzilla's atomic nature and all, im sure in the new movie he got his breath from that that nuke, but explosions match more for what an bomb is, not a giant dinosaur that has a blue flamethrower. (I know it's not fire by the way for those of you who don't know sarcasm)
