What if Godzillas desing stayed the same from 1954 and only the height and strength were changed?

Especially in Son of Godzilla. That fat neck *shudders*
if they kept the desing the same it might have been alright, but i really like the 1991 design and the new 2014 design. The movies might have been better but they should have kept the original roar the same in my opinion. :)

Keeping the same design? That sounds boring. Part of the historical fun of the Godzilla series was his changing design and picking and choosing favorites. Think of all the fantastic designs we would have never had if Toho stuck with just one blueprint for how he looked.
The Gamera series tried keeping his design consistant, but it fared better during the 1990s trilogy when his design changed from film to film.
@gman,
We stiring the pot again? XD

God no. That design might have looked good in the 50s but would it hold up in the 70s 80s, 90s and 2000? No the design was fine for the time and it might have worked better to stick with it at the beginning of the series but it think besides a few hiccups the design for the most part got progressively better as the series rolled on.
Gotta agree with Durp,
I just don't think it would've worked on a creative and stylistic level to keep Godzilla's design the same from 1954. Can you imagine that design fighting King Ghidorah on Planet X?
The thing is that Godzilla's changing design wasn't simply because the suits got worn, but it reflected Godzilla's personality and the movies' tone as well. The 1954 Godzilla design worked for that particular movie, but it wouldn't worked for Monster Zero or Destroy All Monsters.
This topic carries over from the fact that we wouldn't have nearly as many Godzilla movies had the franchise not changed significantly with each and every decade.
In spite of the fact that overall the '54 design is my favorite, I'm forced to agree with Durp and GMan that with the changing tone of the movies (starting with Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster), the suits had to change to reflect that. I couldn't see the craggly, crusty '54 design duking it out with Hedorah or Megalon!
I've always thought a good comparision would be all the Batman movies. Batmans design changes constantly, but not drastically just enough to create a new vision of what the director wants. I liked how the Heisei series kept the design consistant because the films were all linked (other than 1984 that is) but I very much enjoy seeing new takes on Godzilla.
