MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2014 3:14 AMhmmm, right now godzilla has a rating of 60 in metacritic.com based on 11 reviews. What's your opinion about this score??

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2014 3:35 AMCheck back in a couple of days when the rest of the reviews are tallied. Metacritcs uses about 35-40 reviewers per major movie. The scores usually come down a tad once all the reviews are submitted. So if it is a 60 now, it probably will end up being about a 55 by Wednesday.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2014 3:41 AMMeh I dont pay too much attention to META score.there are alot of successful films that dont have much of a good score on Meta Critic.
Suchs Jurassic Park
Predator (1987)
The Shining
terminator 2
and the Hobbit.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2014 3:54 AMEh....the review clutter is starting to kick in a little bit....if we can condense these dicussions into some of the pre-existing threads, that would be preferred. But that aside for the moment...my 2 cents on Metacritic:
Yeah, older movies don't get the scores they deserve on any review site.
Retroactive reviews struggle to be objective. They either review the movie with overly inflated nostalgia....OR....they don't give the movie credit for what it did new or revolutionary or previously unseen for its time.
That being said, Metacritic is a little bit more consistent/reliable for modern movies.
As far as the score itself...it seems perfectly valid. It sounds like there were genuine script issues with the movie, and ATJ wasn't a great lead.
Purists also mention that the monster 'symbolism' is little more than forced exposition rather than actually elevating the movie. One review even talks about how Godzilla is almost the 'good guy'......rather than the 'anti-hero' he was marketed to be or the 'punishment' that he's supposed to be if you're actually taking Godzilla back to its roots.
I mean, we all knew that Godzilla would be fighting the Muto on behalf of humanity....but there is a difference between making him the lesser of two EVILS or 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' theme....than making him the 'good guy'.
Some of this stuff is hard to evaluate until we see the movie for ourselves. Maybe some of it is just nit-picky. I for one am still totally stoked to see it, and plan to enjoy it thoroughly. I don't think anything or anyone can stop me from that.
But it sounds to me like Metacritic's review is just an honest score of what this movie is, rather than a rosecolored glasses/fanboy interpretation of what we would like it to be.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2014 5:46 AMMetacritic is a terrible site for film reviews. Never trust them. If you have to go with a review site to get ideas on whether a movie will be good or bad, go to IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes. Metacritic is all over the place. And like RatedRex already stated; Metacritic's ratings tend to drop down a lot so in the end, Godzilla will have pretty a pretty bad rating by Metacritic.

Ignore IMDB. Most of the time, half of the reviewers having even seen the movie before they review it.
Here is what makes rottentomatoes a good place to go for ratings. If the score is 80%, that really means that there is a 80% chance that you will like the movie. A scoce of 50% will mean there is a 50 percent chance you will like the movie, and so on. However, the critics' rating can me misleading. Sometimess critics overrate artsy movies, which explains why some of the movies they rave about, puts us to sleep.
