MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 1:15 AMHello guys, so I have listened to the Godzilla 2014 soundtrack on Spotify and I just can't feel for any main theme that makes me think of the big G. I want to be able to remember Godzilla by a particular theme but with this soundtrack, it's not doing it for me.
I pray to the Godzilla gods that Godzilla's original theme is included in this movie, even if it's tossed in the end credits. Thoughts???

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 2:01 AMUnfortunately the original main theme from Ifukube is confirmed by Gareth to not be in the movie.
Facebook Q&A with Director Gareth Edwards - May 4, 2014
I do agree there seem to be a great lack of recognisable motifs for Godzilla, but this is most likely because a theme for him was never established to be made. Gareth focused his music entirely with the flow of the movie, and that can make the composer overlook attempts to focus on specific things such as a theme.
Basically, these soundtrack aren't made to be heard on their own. They are directly chained with the film and the visuals that comes out. That's not entirely a bad thing, but the soundtrack on itself is sadly a bit lackluster.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 2:48 AMActually, if you listen to the recently uploaded soundtrack, you could notice the last few tracks havesame melody with "godzilla!" with only a few variations. So i guess that's what they're establshing as theain theme.
I actually liked it. conveys the image of a titan.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 7:39 AMI am not a big fan of the new soundtrack. I agree, there is nothing that says "Godzilla"
I have very little likeing for the composer of the new work. Its like he came in, and did a "job" and was not that inspired by the subject matter. That is the feeling. Edwards should have made a much better choice.
Any of thoe pieces could have fit with anything else.
We finally have a movie that tries to respect Godzilla and what happens? They go and leave out the very soul of Godzilla himself-Akira Ifukube
You don't see JJ Abrams doing that with Star Wars. Even in the Star Trek movies he made, he still kept some Trek music.
That is called respecting the material.
Sure Toho had a few movies without the Theme, but they had many more that did. If we made a dozen movies and one of them happened to not have the theme, then so be it.
Given that it is the 100th birthday (RIP) of Akira Ifukube, and this being the 60th of Godzilla what better way then to remember both in this way?
I think Godzilla fans are far too quiet and accepting at times. I know Star Wars fans would be in a uproar if the Theme was dropped. That is why they will never drop that theme.
The movie will still be good of course, but, its just not the same IMHO

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 9:18 AM^Due to a number of people liking the change as well. There are always 2 sides to a reboot. As much as the fan that i am of tge older movies, I really didn't like the original theme. Sounded a bit happy to me, even when i was a kid.
Which is why i really liked the new soundtrack. Could'be been better though. But that's jist me, though i think there are others that share the same semtiment.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 1:33 PMI'm totally fine that they left out the old Godzilla theme. It just doesn't fit the tone of this movie imo.
However, I am disappointed that a new theme wasn't created. John Williams with Harry Potter, Hans Zimmer with the Dark Knight, etc. and so on and so forth.....they have THEMES. People recognize and remember the music almost as much as they remember the movies themselves.
It didn't need to be the old theme, they could have created something new, but yeah, this soundtrack sounded kinda generic. It seems suitable, I think it will work. But I don't see it being memorable at all.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 3:35 PMi wouldve prefered a darker version of the theme. i dont really like the composer either. wouldve prefered someone like hans zimmer do a variation of it

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-07-2014 10:29 AMI remembered that in Man of Steel, the classic theme was never used and i hardly noticed or miss it, so i think i will feel the same way with Godzilla.
