MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 9:32 AMI just turned 31 not too long ago and first discovered Godzilla around the age of eight and have never lost my sense of wonder for the character. Of course I had the typical dinosaurs, greek mythology and robots affection but the one that sticked with me for more than 2/3rds of my life has been the big G. Tracking down all of his films both legal and bootleg than having to re get them all on dvd, the action figures, mags and comics, you name it. I even have this thing where some one can just shout out a random year and I can tell what Godzilla film was made during that time. You may have even seen my post on here about my tattoo, that's right, the king of the monsters takes up my entire left forearm. Yet, nothing quite gets me worked up more than hearing people talk about what we should feel or act as TRUE Godzilla fans.
When I post a discussion on here it's always been to genuinely spark a fun discussion on something I feel is truly interesting so please exscuse me for this one time rant. This fanboy response to how an idividual should feel "because that's just the way it is" is completely ignorant and makes you and us look like jackasses. I don't want to hear "any true Godzilla fan would like this" or if seeing Godzilla die in Destroyah didn't make you tear up than you're not a true Godzilla fan.
I have again been a Godzilla obsessor for 2/3rds of my life, seen everything to see, know everything to know, adorn his image on my very skin and am even commited to not shaving until the film comes out (yeah, I don't know why or what thats supposed to support/protest) but I'm not preaching to anyone who or what a TRUE fan is and never will. I love the character through force of nature, father figure, hero, evil spirit of dead soldiers and all his incarnations but absolutely HATE some of the films. It's simple opinion. Now please, no more of this ignorant "true fan" crap.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 1:08 PMreally the concept of a 'true fans' is a way for the older verteren fans fans to scare off new fans who have diffrent opinions on what the fandom likes. i live in the uk i have a few region 1 g dvds becuase there an't any r2 english dvds with the exception of Gojira 54 and KKvsG 62 so i haven't bothered getting any more untill there are any r-free blu rays or region 2 g dvds

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 1:35 PMMy rant isn't exclusive to Godzilla. It's fanboyism egos that just inflate to their opinion as all knowing and the final word. Such as "hey Batman used a gun in this comic which is stupid because any TRUE batman fan would know he'd never do such a thing." With that they firmly imply that they are the one supreme opinion on batman and if you disagree with them than you can't possibly call yourself a batman fan. I try to avoid forums because of those inflated egos but I'm a Godzilla nut and have absolutely noone to talk to about this stuff that absolutely fascinates me. So lets all post some fun discussions here and keep our minds open to different view points.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 2:20 PMi wasn't saying that your rant was exclusive to g-fans, i was talking about fandoms and their fanboys

AdminGodzillaMar-05-2014 2:41 PMThe comment, "if you're a true fan you will [insert something regarding the franchise here]" is one of the lowest most arrogant comments any fan of any franchise could make, I agree. But it happens. I've spent a lot of time trying to persurve the Godzilla series and tokusatsu in a cinematically historical frame. That makes me no more of a fan than anyone else...
That said, and slightly off topic, I'm getting a little tired of topics about people needing to cool off, calm down, chill out or speculating why arguments break out from disagreements. They've been interesting reads, but I think I've seen enough of them from casual posters.
This thread sort of beats around that same bush. I'll allow it this time, but guys, lets stop making threads about aggressive posting on here and get back to Godzilla. We have plenty of mods now to look out for this sort of thing. We'll take care of it if things get a little too hot under the collar.

MemberBaragonMar-05-2014 3:42 PMi grew up on godzilla, when i was 3 years old the very first godzilla film i seen on TNT was godzilla vs megalon, and i have been in love(so to speak) with this famous franchise. i have owned every godzilla film at one time on VHS, pretty much all the trendmasters toys i could find and grab at walmart, then fastfoward to 2013 my little nephew who is 6 now i gave all of the vhs tapes to him and replaced them with dvds for myself but dont judge me yet when most of them wouldnt play on his vcr i replaced them with the dvds for him as well. i have promised him we will see this movie and that we both will be owning the dvd copys when they are released. i can honistly say i have never been so proud of being a fan and to pass this famous franchise down the line to others :) now i have seen the snickers commerical yesterday and was very happy with it because gareth is giving us what we wanted and he is showing his respects to this franchise as well.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 4:01 PMIf I can be completely honest, the 1998 US Godzilla film was the first Godzilla movie I ever saw, and was in love with Zilla. I had a Zilla backpack, bed sheets, toys, everything. Granted I was 7 and didn't know a good movie from a stick in the ground, but Zilla was just so cool to me! I remeber I asked my parents to rent it for me one night, and they brought back Godzilla 2000 by mistake. I watched that and my life changed. I was introduced to the Japanese Godzilla, the real Godzilla, and from there I slowly began to imerse myself in the fandom. That being said, I always seem to get crap for liking Zilla, recieving the age old "You're not a real fan!", even though I love the Japanese Godzilla much more. I'm 20 now and have been a fan for 13 years, and I want to say I LOVE to hear people like our friend NPINKHAM19 encouraging the fandom to branch out and be more accpeting, because lets face it, come May 16th, we will probably see a big fandom population boost!

MemberBaragonMar-05-2014 4:05 PMi will admit slirpyz that zilla was an ok film but the producers are the ones who killed it because they didnt give the fans what they wanted but was just to make a film and yeah i am sure others really dont know the real godzilla when they see him, unless i am wrong. but anyway zilla was ok for a film it just wasnt godzilla.
