MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 3:36 PMGodzilla's release is only a few short months away and with that being said, we should step back and take a look at the big picture here. With Godzilla's outstanding cast, visual effects team, among whom have worked on the Lord of The Rings films as well as The Avengers, a director who recieved a lot of praise for his independent film, and a realistic and dark tone, could this new installment be Oscar worthy?

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 3:43 PMLet me put it this way;
Oscar Nomination; ABSOLUTELY.
Oscar win; Its 50/50.
If it doesnt get nominated i will be suprised. But win...Well, i wouldnt count on it, but it can happen.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 3:51 PM@ZillaHater, yeah, I would be genuinely surprised also if it doesn't get nominated. I think this movie is really going to change people's minds and views about Godzilla for thos who have never seen the earlier films.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 3:55 PMI can see a nomination for special effects, but that's it. Nobody takes Godzilla seriously, so it's not going to go anywhere Oscar wise. It could be the greatest movie ever, but that doesn't matter, in the end it's still a monster movie, and that's all that matters with things like this. I'm still shocked LOTR:ROTK won so big, I don't see it happening with another fantasy/sci-fi type movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 3:59 PMRemember it did almost happen with Avatar. On the other hand, this year Pacific Rim and Ender's Game both got snubbed for the Special Effects nom while Lone Ranger got nominated to the category as well as one other (wtf is that about?!).
I would love to see a nomination too, and quite frankly I think this film has as good a chance as any for that to happen... but I somehow doubt it too. Maybe cinematography or directing though if it's really good?

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 4:06 PMI see a nomination for visual effects and maybe 1 nomination for best actor/actress.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 4:08 PMreally this sort of prediction should happen after we have seen the movie, i don't won't to bring everyones hopes down but we can't just think it will be 100% good with only 2 theatrical posters and only 1 teaser, it has potentail but we should wait till after 16th of may.

ゴジラ 2014 Rules
MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 4:19 PMAleast it better than Godzilla 1998 Europes best dirctor,Razzie award for worst prequel, razzie worst supporting actress and so many more

godzillafan1995
MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 4:19 PMbut for an award prediction id say:

AdminGodzillaFeb-02-2014 8:18 PMI think it's far too early to speculate any of this, but at most Godzilla might get some technical nods: Visual effects, sound effects, sound editing... stuff like that. You're kidding yourselves if you think it could possibly be up for anything else. No one will consider this for acting or directing awards-- whether it's true or not.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 8:57 PMMan I don't think it will win anything, but its sequel will!
So will with the Avengers vs Justice League movie.
C'mon guys, that is how rediculous you sound. I don't wanna be mean-- but its way to early to make any estimation like this.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 10:03 PMListen, I'm not trying to sound stupid here. The original Gojira was a monster movie, yes, but it was supposed to be more symbolic and stand for the atomic bomb and the destruction we inflict upon ourselves. I'm not saying, "Oh yeah, a monster movie could totally be nominated just becuase I like Godzilla!" If Gareth Edwards stands true to his word about this film being grounded in reality and making Godzilla a force of nature again, it might actually have a shot. I'm not stating anything in stone or that I think it will get nominated for sure, but with the A-list cast, visual effects specialists and Edwards at the helm, it seems that it could stand a chance. Of course we'll have to see the movie first, but from what we know so far, it looks promising in my opinion.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-02-2014 10:20 PMFantasy movies like never get those Oscar nominations, only nonfake realistic movies, so no Oscar for Godzilla, but will definitelly get like best special effects

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-03-2014 3:30 AMA little early for all of this, but even if the film is excellent I think its a little unrealistic to expect this to get any top awards (acting, directing, best film, etc) due to bias against blockbusters/special effects heavy films....but does anyone else have high expectations for the films music score? Alexander Desplat has been nominated for best original score 6 times (including this year). I'm really curious as to what he does for Godzilla - especially whether or not he incorparates any of the original themes.(please!)
There will still be an award bias against Godzilla even in the film score category (music nods often mirror the best picture nominees) but I think if there is a chance its nominated in a non-special effects category, film score could be it.
