In celebration of Godzilla's 68th Birthday next month, and in honor of the Shin Japan Heroes Universe, a revised SH MonsterArts Godzilla (2016) will be up for pre-order November 1st. The new sculpt is a more accurate interpretation of the maquette used for the film's CG model by Takayuki Takeya.
The new figure is dubbed the Godzilla (2016) Night Combat Ver. Apart from using the same 3D data used for the Japanese Academy Award Winning film, Shin Godzilla, translucent red pieces line the figure to simulate the night time luminescence Godzilla glows in the film.
You can take a look at a comparison between the original 2016 figure (left) and the 2023 figure (right) below.
The Godzilla Night Combat Ver. figure will retail at 16,500 Yen (roughly $113) and drop in March of 2023 in Japan. It is expected to be released in the U.S. later in the year. No accessories are included, the figure stands 7.1" tall.
Other 68th Anniversary celebration events for Godzilla include:
- Godzilla Festival 2022, streaming online November 3rd which will include the two short films Gigan's Attack and Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex!
- Criterion's celebration of Ishiro Honda
- Heisei & Millennium Godzilla films streaming on Hulu
