Last month, we reported of the existence of a viral Skull Island website that was created for the marketing of the movie. There have been some exciting new developments on the movie! The site saw an overhaul today, with a new format for the site.
In conjunction with this, the MonarchSciences twitter account tweeted recently a cryptic hint regarding the site's new format. The new format of the site can be seen in the image below:
The site now shows a map of Skull Island with the option to transform turn the thermal readings on. The site now purports to be a Monarch case file logged by Supervising officer 'William Randa', which is John Goodman's character in the film. The site warns of 'multiple risk flags' and refers to additional details which are not available at this time.
Perhaps most intriguing, is the section under 'Encrypted Data'. When clicked, each of the five folders prompts for a password. However, the Monarch twitter provided a clue in its first tweet, which presented a typewriter describing a string of letters in code, and then giving the key to solving it.
We have already solved the first of the encrypted data files. The key was solved, and confirmed with the official twitter as a link back to the original site. Upon entry of the password, a short clip was revealed:
It is implied that the Monarch twitter will continue to tweet out the other four passwords in code as the trailer gets closer. Although this first file did not contain much in the way of information, as we unlock more files, more of the site may be revealed. We will continue to update this story as we get more info!
UPDATE 12:19PM EST: The Monarch Sciences Twitter have just posted a new video recording a radio transmission. The associated case file has been dubbed "Help". The password for this second file can be seen in several of the replies to the comment below. The clip shows our first good look at Kong encountering the humans of the film:
Another update is that Kong Skull Island teased on its twitter that a trailer will arrive in four days. It appears now that a new case file will be opened each day with the associated cipher and password given.
Update: The Monarch twitter released another cryptic teaser post. The code was swiftly broken, and the password unlocked the third file, revealing a new video clip. The following clip shows our first full glimpse of Kong in action:
Update: 11/14/2016.
The official Monarch Twitter updated yet again, giving a new password in code for the fourth case file labeled 'natural law'. The password for this one was tellingly, 'Endangered Species' which was described vividly in the associated clip:
Could this clip indicate that Kong is the last of his kind on the island? It remains to be seen if the film will show the explorers encountering the bones of the previous giant apes that once inhabited Skull Island.
UPDATE: 11/15/16:
The Monarch Twitter recently updated with the cipher for the last casserole. As the password was input, the following video clip was revealed. This clip shows a tantalizing snippet of a new monster, hitherto unrevealed so far in any clip or teaser so far:
