It appears Warner Brothers are considering releasing Godzilla vs. Kong on a streaming platform in favor of its original theatrical only release. In a fresh report from The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix already offered Warner Brothers over $200 million to acquire the title and release it on their platform but WanrerMedia are currently in the process of offering the picture to HBO Max.
The decision as to where to release Godzilla vs. Kong is still undecided but THR also reports that Legendary declined to comment while a Warner Bros. spokesperson said that they plan to release Godzilla vs. Kong theatrically next year as scheduled.
Details of the acquisition by HBO Max are unclear at the time but we'll keep you posted as we learn more!
The consensus so far however seems to be that a streaming release is likely but that a theatrical release will also accompany the streaming release next year.
