In classic Monsterverse fashion, the next season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will shift focus from Godzilla's origins to Kong's story, similar to how the film's chronological release shifted from Godzilla (2014) to Kong: Skull Island before the two titular Titans came together in Godzilla vs. Kong. Season 1 of Legacy of Monsters did set up for this transition by featuring a brief cliffhanger where Kong emerged at a Monarch outpost during the season's finale. Friends close to the project have confirmed to us that Godzilla will be taking a back seat for season 2 and Kong will take center stage as the primary Titan of interest.
The series will introduce a new marine Titan very akin to the iconic Giant Octopus from the original Toho King Kong vs. Godzilla movie – we saw glimpses of this giant tentacled monster in the series teaser reel. We’re told the new monster pays homage to this classic battle:
While Godzilla won't be getting as much screen time as Kong in season 2, it doesn't mean he won't make an appearance. The Legacy of Monsters series aims to intertwine and connect the Monsterverse films in greater detail and there's still much of Kong's backstory left to be explored.
