As Kong: Skull Island nears its theatrical debut, Legendary has announced a prequel comic for the film. The comic will hit stores in April, and be written by Arvid Nelson and Zid. The press release for this comic series is as follows:
"As the ultimate monster icon returns to the big screen in the highly anticipated film Kong: Skull Island, Legendary Comics expands the story of King Kong with an exciting new comic series. Readers will join the mysterious organization Monarch on a mission into myth, revealing the untold origins of this god-like creature and the battle for survival that made him the last of his kind."
Although this comic is being released after the film is already in theaters, it is unclear if it will take place after the events of the film. As it details Monarch investigating Kong's origins, it is possible that the secretive organization may attempt to discover exactly how Kong came to be and how his species is nearly extinct. It will be interesting to note if there are any tie-ins to Godzilla or other Kaiju in Kong's origin story.
Kong: Skull Island will be released in theaters on March 10, 2017. Stay tuned to Scified as we learn more information about this exciting new development!
