Yesterday John Carpenter tweeted a short video of himself sitting in a vacant cinema and eagerly anticipating a mysterious screening. As the the video fades to a "coming soon", the mighty roar of Godzilla himself is heard. You can watch the teaser here.
Speculation has run rampant, with predictions as big as Carpenter producing a new Godzilla project, to releasing his Godzilla vs. Gorgo fan film--A project he declared would never be released because it was, "devastatingly bad."
With streaming services such as Shout Factory TV and TokuSHOUTsu
tagged in Carpenter's post, it's most likely he's hosting some sort of Godzilla marathon. But time will tell if any surprises crop up out of this.
Carpenter has long since cited the original Godzilla as one of his greatest inspirations. "The mood of the original Godzilla is unlike any movie I've ever seen," Carpenter praised. "Especially any horror film or science fiction movie or monster movie. It's so serious. That movie makes you feel like science has unleashed something that is destroying us. That makes you feel really sad and doomed."
Godzilla's 68th Anniversary is coming November 3rd. Undoubtedly Carpenter's collaboration with the franchise will be unveiled around the same time.
