Today we received our advanced preview copy of the upcoming official art book for Godzilla vs. Kong titled Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall - The Art of the Ultimate Battle Royale and with permission we're debuting some of the book's many exciting contents! Below is our second of many previews, highlighting the creatures of Hollow Earth and much more. Check out our first preview, showcasing Godzilla's evolutionary ancestor!

Shimida

We originally caught wind of Shimida earlier this month, when artwork of the unused subterranean Titan made its way online by way of its creator Ken Barthelmey! It's great to see this Titan was included in the Art Book. Below is a preview of what's inside, along with information about the concept behind this new Monsterverse Titan.

According to the book, Shimida submerges itself in goo and employs mosses and lichens as natural camouflage. The idea was to show the cohesiveness of the Hollow Earth biome. The book also mentions that all the Hollow Earth creatures were inspired by real-life animals, except this one - Shimida was created from scratch!

Wingard had wanted Shimida's mouth parts to blend in with the environment while it waited for unwary pray to cross its path. However, Shimida's weakness is dry land - without swamp or moisture soil to submerge itself in, Shimida is relatively helpless.

Although this Monster went unused in the film, we might know why now. As the book explains: Shimida was thought of as larva, or the first stage of a much bigger creature. Perhaps we'll see what Shimida becomes in a later Monsterverse sequel!

Delve into the making of Godzilla vs. Kong, and experience cinema’s most colossal clash like never before. Featuring exclusive concept art and insights from the filmmakers, Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall is the ultimate guide to an iconic movie showdown.

From creature design to on-set photography, Godzilla vs. Kong: One Will Fall captures every stage of the filmmaking process, giving you unprecedented access to the creation of a titanic movie event.

I’ve actually noticed this trend in hollywood

most monsters are either unnaturally thin or have a sandwich face, or both
