This past summer director Michael Dougherty wrapped the bulk of Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) in Atlanta, GA. According to Omega Underground, the city should expect a return trip from the Monster King. Kong will be joining this time around for Godzilla vs. Kong (2020) directed by Adam Wingard.
Wingard will reteam with his usual production designer Thomas Hammcock. There is currently no known start date for the film's principle photography.
This past summer Wingard visited the set of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and observed Dougherty's production:
“Part of me just wanted to go there and see what a $200 million — or whatever it’s costing — movie liked like. And I was kind of relieved to see that, at a certain point, movies can only get so big. That’s kind of what I got from it. It was really educational, just from that perspective. Mike was really nice. I’d never met him before. I walked up to him on set and he was taking pictures of one of the props or something, and he was laughing with somebody, and I was like, ‘Oh, this was really encouraging, to see that you’re smiling and looking happy!’ Because he was halfway through that production, so he could have been in horrible shape.”
Godzilla vs. Kong is directed by Adam Wingard based on a writers room story led by Terry Rossio. Alex Garcia is producing.
The film will hit theaters May 22nd, 2020. Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters March 22nd, 2019. Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters should arrive on Netflix in 2018 and Godzilla: Decisive Battle, Mobile Breeder City will hit Japanese theaters May, 2018.
