Godzilla is the ultimate monster we all know and love, maybe even the King of Monsters from all movies. He shoots beams in the sky and destroys cities, but he is not the fastest monster out there. And that makes a lot of sense since we are talking about a big and heavy monster.
So, even though Godzilla is humongous, it is not the kind of monster that you’d pick for a race, right?
Here is a crazy question - can the fastest horse on the planet (we are talking about Secretariat speed), outrun this monster? It is a fair question to ask. After all, your car is not an option due to wreckage on the streets, so if you see Godzilla in front of you, the best choice you have is a fast horse.
But can a fast horse outrun Godzilla? Well, it might have a chance if Godzilla isn’t spitting beams out of his mouth, but let’s analyze it further.
Godzilla Stats and Figure
To compare them both, we first need to know Godzilla's actual size. Now, on TV it seems like we are talking about a huge monster that is as tall as some skyscrapers, and that’s about right.
In modern movies like Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), he is from 300 to 400 feet. This means that we are talking about a huge and heavy monster, that is not exactly built for sprinting, right? He is more like a stompy, city-smashing type.
But that doesn’t mean that you should get comfortable. Due to its big size and large steps, this monster can cover the area quickly. Some fans suggest that Godzilla can go as fast as 40 to 60 miles per hour when he’s really booking it.
So, the question is, can a fast horse outrun Godzilla? Hmm…can a horse run more than 40mph? Let’s find out.
How Fast is a Fast Horse?
If we want fast horses, we must turn to horse racing. One of the few and rare horses that we actually have a record of is the Secretariat. This is without a doubt the fastest horse that ever lived, which was clocked running at 47.8 miles per hour during his 1973 Belmont Stakes win.
He set record times on the Triple Crown races, that still haven’t been beaten to this day.
Today’s fastest horses can run anywhere from 40-45 mph, but only over short bursts. They aren’t designed for long-distance travel.
So, this means that they are sprinters not marathoners, so, can they keep that pace when a radioactive monster is on their tail?
How Will Things Play Out
Imagine the scene: a wide-open plain, Godzilla roaring in the distance, and a jockey nudging their horse like, “Go, buddy, go!”
Let’s say it’s a straight-up 1-mile dash—short enough for a horse to go all-out, but long enough for Godzilla to get moving.
At first, the horse bolts—45 mph right out the gate, kicking up dust. Godzilla’s lumbering start might only hit 20 mph, but once he gets those massive legs pumping, he’s closing the gap fast. By the half-mile mark, he’s probably at 50 mph, tail swinging, atomic breath warming up. Yikes!
Which one would you bet on? I know that this scenario isn’t in your horse betting strategies for 2025, but I’d say if the horse runs on uneven terrain, and uses the agility to change direction quickly, it can outrun Godzilla, or at least get him bored.
Could the Horse Pull It Off?
Here’s where it gets dicey. Horses are quick, but they tire out. Secretariat’s top speed lasted maybe 30 seconds before he settled into a still insane 40 mph.
Godzilla, though? He’s not exactly panting after a mile—he’s a kaiju, built for chaos. If the horse can dodge the first few stomps and weave through some trees or rubble (good luck finding that on a track!), it might buy time.
But raw speed? Godzilla’s got the edge in a straight line once he hits his stride. I’d say the horse has a shot for the first 20 seconds—then it’s monster chow.
What History Tells Us
Horses have outrun some wild stuff—think cavalry dodging cannon fire or racers beating early cars. But Godzilla’s a different beast.
In Shin Godzilla (2016), he’s slow at first, but in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), he’s chasing jets!
The Equestrian Elite are legends—American Pharoah, Man o’ War—but they’ve never faced a 60,000-ton lizard with a grudge. Still, I’d root for the underdog horse every time, just for the thrill.
Imagine The Spectacle
Think of the vibes! A crowd cheering as the horse zips past Godzilla’s massive claws, maybe even a slow-motion shot of the jockey looking back with wide eyes. Fans would lose it— “Horse vs. Godzilla 2025, best race ever!”
Maybe the horse gets a head start, or Godzilla’s distracted by a pesky Mothra cameo. Either way, it’s less about winning and more about the sheer madness of it all.
Tips for Our Horse Hero
If I’m coaching this horse, I’m saying: zigzag, buddy! Use that agility—Godzilla’s not turning on a dime with that tail.
Stick to uneven ground where he might trip and pray for a short race. Jockeys got to be fearless, too—channel some Kentucky Derby energy and don’t look back. Oh, and maybe pack a sugar cube for morale.
Maybe they will take some inspiration for the next Godzilla vs Kong 2 movie and introduce a scene where the actor runs away on a horse. We’ll finally get an answer to this question that nobody is asking.
